By now, those of you reading this site have no need to be reminded of the greatness of Nickelodeon's animated "Avatar: The Last Airbender" series -- we've written as much in detail time and again, after all. The elemental story of Aang and his friends joining together to battle the evil of Fire Lord Ozai is the stuff of legend, having gained countless fans during its original airing on Nickelodeon and in the years since. Although that viewership is exactly the demographic most leery about any further adaptations of that story, especially in live-action, Netflix is nevertheless forging ahead with their own spin on the classic tale (even after the poorly-received news that the Netflix series had parted ways with the show's original creators over "creative direction").
But one way to win fans back is to further flesh out the already-impressive cast with even more big names and fan-favorites...

Disney's gorgeous new toon flick has triggered social media talk mainly because it flaunts 'Asian inclusivity'. Lesser cynics have been quick to dub it a Hollywood ploy to expand market. More vehement ones have pointed out Asia is much more than Southeast Asia, which the casting and setting of the film primarily represents.
Vietnam-origin actress Kelly Marie Tran voices Raya, warrior princess from the land of Kumandra that, all resemblance to Vietnam being coincidental, comprises townscapes and stretches expansive evergreen forests reminiscent of that country. There is a liberal smattering of other Asian origin names in the lead voice cast, too. You spot Awkwafina, Sandra Oh, Gemma Chan, Daniel Dae Kim and Benedict Wong.
An idea of the cast and backdrop is important to understand fact that the film is also an effort on Hollywood's part to serve some exotic entertainment, duly American-ised for its core audience.

At a time when it’s seemingly impossible to reach consensus about anything from science and meteorology to how economies function and who should benefit from them, it’s either daring or divisive for “Raya and the Last Dragon” to make a case for reaching out to our enemies and trusting them to put the common good above factional rivalry.
How viewers will respond to that kind of message in a family-friendly period fantasy will no doubt vary, but the film itself is a gorgeous piece of work that features elaborate and ambitious world-building, stunning visuals and an A-team of impressive voice actors. It’s a film with a lot on its mind and plenty of plot and character plates to spin, but the results are both impressive and exciting.

Disney dropped a new trailer today (view below) for “Raya and the Last Dragon” (opening in theaters and streaming on Disney+ March 5), and last week screened 30 minutes of footage for select journalists. It’s very evident that the animation studio is doubling down on cultural diversity with the badass warrior princess from Southeast Asia. Yet there’s a new wrinkle in the latest evolution of the Disney Princess story. The fearless Raya (voiced by Vietnamese American Kelly Marie Tran of “Star Wars” fame) discovers that she can’t save her fractious kingdom of Kumandra alone — she needs the help of a water dragon, Sisu (Awkwafina), the last of its species, which transforms into a funny, if awkward, human, and a ragtag team of adversaries to fight a powerful force known as the Druun.

We've got some bad news, Council of Dads fans.
NBC has decided to not move forward with a second season of the series.
While no official announcement has been made by the network, sources close to the show have confirmed the cancellation.
So, that means Council of Dads Season 1 Episode 10 will ultimately serve as the series finale, as well as the season's.
Council of Dads was a newcomer this season, often compared to NBC's popular family drama This Is Us.

The long-tail effect of “This Is Us” — the only network drama launch in recent memory to achieve its particular alchemical blend of popular and critical acclaim along with awards attention — remains very much in effect, as evidenced by “Council of Dads.” This new NBC drama would seem to take its network-mate as a template, incorporating, through shifts through time, a foundational family trauma that gives way to a clan whose structure’s unconventionality is, perhaps its strength.
Which means that “Council of Dads” — in which the widow and children of a recently deceased pillar of his community are attended to by a council of dads — has an unshakable solidity to its foundation. At its core, the family story here works, and mysteries seeded through time are intriguing enough to make staying tuned seem like an appealing proposition. Where “Council of Dads” falters is when it ventures too far onto the...

When Bruce Feiler was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in his early forties, the author and television personality concocted a creative plan to ensure that his young twin daughters would grow up with all the love and wisdom he wanted to share with them, care of a “council of dads” who would step in should he pass away. Feiler then assembled a six-man council to do just that, tapped to pick up the slack after Feiler’s passing and guide his kiddos through a tough time with love and care. Feiler never had to activate his so-called council, though he did write a bestselling book about the scheme, and it eventually spawned Joan Rater and Tony Phelan’s gentle if scattershot NBC drama “Council of Dads.”

Little, directed by Tina Gordon Chism, follows tough stuck up business women Jordan Sanders after she’s transformed into her younger child self during her latest meltdown at work. Hilarity Ensues. Little is a fine comedy that plays about with its subject matter in a restrained, albeit, fun circumstance.
Without sounding pretentious and ultra-arthouse, at its heart Little is a child’s film plain and simple. While that might sound like a degrading remark, let me assure you it isn’t. Agreed elements of Little are slightly “out there” and at times a little provocative than it perhaps should be, however, at the basis of this narrative we have a wonderfully executed tale on the teething pain of growing up,...

Stability is the name of the game at NBC as the network heads into the 2019-20 TV season.
With only one new drama and two new comedies on the fall schedule, the network is keeping things simple.
New Jimmy Smitts legal drama, Bluff City Law is taking the 10/9c post-The Voice slot.
NBC typically uses that slot to launch new dramas, but given that The Voice has been fading this season, there's a good chance it won't be the solid launch pad it once was.
This move leaves Manifest off the fall schedule to allow for uninterupted 2020 run, which is probably a good thing given the serialized nature of the series.
The Good Place is moving to 9/8c on a permanent basis for its fourth season. It will be sandwiched between new comedies, Perfect Harmony and Sunnyside.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Will & Grace are both being held for midseason.

We have some sad news for Jane the Virgin fans: The CW has confirmed it is no longer moving forward with Jane the Novella, an anthology series which would have been narrated by original series star Gina Rodriguez.
Each season was said to be about one of Jane Villanueva's novels
The first installment was to be set “at a Napa Valley vineyard, where family secrets (and family members) don’t stay buried for long,” per the network.

The trusted group of role models Scott has assembled to help his family include his oldest friend Anthony, his AA sponsor Alrry and his surgeon and wife’s best friend Oliver. NBC has given a series order to drama pilot Council of Dads, from Doubt creators Joan Rater and Tony Phelan, Jerry Bruckheimer Television and Universal TV.
The project, inspired by Bruce Feiler’s best-selling memoir, had been a standout throughout the pilot process. Having a similar sensibility to This Is Us, Council of Dads is considered a potential companion for the hit family drama.
Council of Dads, starring Sarah Wayne Callies, Clive Standen, Tom Everett Scott and J. August Richards, marks NBC’s third new series pickup for next season, joining legal drama Bluff City Law starring Jimmy Smits and Kal Penn’s immigrant comedy Sunnyside. All three come from NBC sibling Uni TV.

My initial thoughts on Little, after watching the trailer, were optimistic. The trailer was funny and I was hoping that it wouldn’t be another case of the funniest parts being in the trailer. Thankfully, that concern in the back of my head was squashed within the first two minutes of this movie.
The plot of Little is straight-forward. After being bullied as a teen, Jordan Sanders decides to bully people before they get a chance to bully her. It’s an attitude that has gotten her far in her career but not in her personal life. At work, she makes her employee’s lives incredibly difficult and she is that boss you either dread having or hate working for.
