Netflix has greenlit a series — which counts the legendary Norman Lear among its executive producers — that will follow a gay teenager who enlists in the U.S. Marine Corps.
The streamer has ordered 10 episodes of The Corps, a drama that will follows Cameron Cope (Miles Heizer), a bullied gay teen who joins the Marines with his straight best friend, Ray McCaffey (Liam Oh), in 1990 — a pre-Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell era when being gay in the military could mean jail time or worse. The series comes from Sony Pictures Telelvision and Lear’s Sony-based Act III Productions and is inspired by Greg Cope White’s memoir The Pink Marine.
Vera Farmiga and Max Parker also star as, respectively, Cameron’s mother and a Marine sergeant who sees himself in Cameron. The cast also includes Cedrick Cooper, Ana Ayora, Angus O’Brien, Dominic Goodman, Kieron Moore, Nicholas Logan, Rico Paris, Blake Burt,...

Warning: Spoilers ahead for Hulu’s new movie “Crush”
Trying to figure out if you have real feelings for your childhood crush or her sister, can be hard. But such is the situation in Hulu’s new rom-com “Crush.” And for Auli’Cravalho, who stars as half — or rather, one third — of that love story, having queer writers was a huge factor in telling that story authentically.
“Having queer writers, and a director, just allowed us to have this film that was so vibrant and funny,” Cravalho told TheWrap. “Like, to be able to also tease queerness you know? It’s funny, and it’s okay! Because we’re teasing ourselves, you know what I mean?”

"Don't be afraid to draw something a little more vulnerable." Hulu has debuted the trailer for a high school romantic comedy titled Crush, marking the feature directorial debut of comedy filmmaker Sammi Cohen. This is landing on Hulu at the end of April. An aspiring young artist joins her high school track team and later discovers what real love feels like when she finds herself falling for an unexpected teammate. Another cute LGBTQ comedy for the streaming era that seems to be rehashing the same teen romance we've seen before so many other times. The first feature film from former Hollywood Darlings director Sammi Cohen, from a script written by Kirsten King and Casey Rackham. Crush features a comedic cast including Rowan Blanchard, Auli’i Cravalho, Isabella Ferreira, Tyler Alvarez, Aasif Mandvi, Rico Paris, Teala Dunn, Addie Weyrich, Michelle Buteau, and Megan Mullally. Netflix has launched production in New Orleans on the comedy movie “Tall Girl,” with newcomer Ava Michelle in the title role following a worldwide casting call.
Michelle, who fits the billing at 6-foot one-inch, will play a 16-year-old who is the tallest female at a high school, where she has never felt completely comfortable.
“It was essential for us to find an actor to portray our lead who can speak to the challenges and lessons that Jodi experiences from a very personal place of authenticity,” said Nzingha Stewart, the film’s director. “Ava’s ability to beautifully and uniquely showcase those attributes stood out to us in a way that we believe audiences will connect with. ‘Tall Girl’ showcases that embracing the very qualities that make you different is what allows you to overcome anything.”
Griffin Gluck (Netflix’s “American Vandal”) will star as the best friend of Michelle’s character.

Netflix has cast actor-dancer-model Ava Michelle to star in Tall Girl, its upcoming original high school comedy movie being directed by Nzingha Stewart. The newcomer leads a cast that includes Griffin Gluck (American Vandal), Luke Eisner (The Goldbergs) and Sabrina Carpenter (The Hate U Give) along with Steve Zahn and Angela Kinsey.
Shooting is underway in New Orleans after an open search was conducted last fall for a lead actress 5-foot-10 or taller and between the ages of 13-21. They eventually landed on Michelle, who is 6-foot-1, to make her feature film debut playing Jodi, the tallest girl in her school who has never quite felt comfortable in her own statuesque skin.
All of that changes when she falls for the handsome (and equally tall) foreign exchange student Stig (Eisner) who, of course, gets Jodi’s quirky, best, male friend Dunkleman (Gluck) and his hippie mom as a host family.
