Author Stephen Graham Jones started his Indian Lake Trilogy with the novel My Heart Is a Chainsaw, which has an audiobook version that was read by Cara Gee, who may be best known for her work on the TV shows Strange Empire and The Expanse. The second novel in the series was Don’t Fear the Reaper, and the audiobook for that one had a full cast that included Isabella Star Lablanc (Pet Sematary: Bloodlines) and Jane Levy (Evil Dead 2013). The Indian Lake Trilogy is set to wrap up with The Angel of Indian Lake, which will be published on March 26th – and our friends at Bloody Disgusting have learned that the audiobook for this one is also going to have a full cast, with one of the cast members being the legendary Stephen King! Pre-orders can be made at This Link.

Fans of Stephen Graham Jones‘ Indian Lake Trilogy will have something special with the upcoming final instalment’s audiobook. Set to be released on March 26, Simon & Schuster Audio has announced that The Angel of Indian Lake will have the legendary Stephen King as a featured voice.
King joins Jones himself for the audiobook, alongside Isabella Star Lablanc (Pet Sematary: Bloodlines), Barbara Crampton, Angela Goethals (Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon), and Andrew J. Robinson (Hellraiser).
The final instalment in the Indian Lake Trilogy, The Angel of Indian Lake picks up four years after the series’ second instalment, Don’t Fear the Reaper.
After “taking the fall” by protecting her friend Letha and her family from incrimination, and spending the past four years in prison, Jade Daniels returns to her hometown of Proofrock, Idaho. Since then, her reputation, and the town, have changed dramatically.

HBO’s officially renewed True Detective for season five. Season four, True Detective: Night Country, was the most-watched season overall, drawing in 12.7 million viewers. It was also the first season that focused on women in the leading roles, and the first with Issa López in charge as writer, director, showrunner, and executive producer.
Showrunner Issa López will return in the same capacity for season five, and has just signed a new multiyear overall deal with HBO. The deal means López will create new content, including season five, for HBO and Max.
“From conception to release, Night Country has been the most beautiful collaboration and adventure of my entire creative life,” stated Issa López. “HBO trusted my vision all the way, and the idea of bringing to life a new incarnation of True Detective with Casey, Francesca, and the whole team is a dream come true.

“True Detective” has been renewed for Season 5 at HBO. Issa López, the creator of “True Detective: Night Country,” will helm the fifth season under her new overall deal with HBO.
The renewal comes as little surprise, given the success of “Night Country,” which saw Jodie Foster and Kali Reis star in the fourth installment of the HBO anthology series. Per HBO, the season is the most-watched installment of the show to date, with 12.7 million cross platform viewers. The season finale on Feb. 18 was the most-watched episode of the season, drawing 3.2 million viewers across HBO and Max. That represents a 57% increase over the show’s premiere viewership in January.

True Detective is coming back for a fifth season at HBO.
Issa López, who served as showrunner for True Detective: Night Country, the fourth and most successful iteration of the crime franchise, will oversee the next installment as part of an overall deal she signed with the network.
It’s yet to be decided as to whether season five of True Detective will be related to Night Country or will be an entirely new story.
However, what’s clear is that, despite creator Nic Pizzolato’s criticisms, López’s season has brought a return to form for the True Detective universe, becoming the most-watched season with 12.7 million cross platform viewers.
As part of López’s new multiyear deal, she will also create new content for HBO and Max.

We’ve arrived at the final episode of HBO’s True Detective: Night Country and we’re finally getting answers as to what’s really going on in the town of Ennis, Alaska. More importantly, episode six revealed exactly what happened to the researchers, the whereabouts of Raymond Clark, and who was responsible for Annie Kowtok’s death.
Episode six begins on December 31st, the 14th day of night, with Liz Danvers (Jodie Foster) and Evangeline Navarro (Kali Reis) making their way through the ice caves. When Liz hears whispers, Navarro asks, “You feel it too, don’t you?” Navarro thinks she sees something – a body, perhaps – and leads Liz toward it, insisting “it’s here.” Unfortunately, they’re met with blocks of ice.

True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto was the mastermind behind the first three seasons of the HBO anthology crime series, but he’s not creatively involved in the latest season, True Detective: Night Country, despite retaining an executive producer credit on the show. He has made his lack of involvement with the new season very clear on social media, where he even went so far as to refer to one element of the new episodes as “stupid”. True Detective: Night Country comes to us from Tigers Are Not Afraid filmmaker Issa López, who directed and co-wrote all six episodes of the season. To find out what Lopez thought of Pizzolatto’s comments, Vulture reached out to her – and did get a response.

With just a few episodes left in True Detective: Night Country, we seem to be no closer to finding out what happened to the researchers at the Tsalal Research Facility. One thing is for certain: Night Country is unlike any of the previous three seasons of the Emmy Award-winning series.
Episode three ended with two jaw-dropping scenes. In one, Dr. Anders Lund sat up in his hospital bed and, in a demonic voice, said, “Hello, Evangeline. Your mother says hello. She’s waiting for you.” In the other, a cell phone video shows Annie saying, “My name is Annie Kowtok. If anything happens to me…” before the phone is ripped away and she screams.
As episode four opens, Chief Liz Danvers (Jodie Foster) can’t sleep, so she watches the video of Annie Kowtok again.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for True Detective: Night Country Season 4, Episode 4, “Part 4.”] The cold dark days of True Detective: Night Country‘s ongoing story grow a tad more frigid in the latest installment as Christmas Eve arrives for Detective Liz Danvers (Jodie Foster) and Detective Evangeline Navarro (Kali Reis). While the holiday season may brighten most spirits, things are dimming for this duo as they deal with personal struggles and the ongoing mystery behind Annie K’s (Nivi Pedersen) murder after uncovering a horrifying video at the end of Episode 3. As Danvers sets her sights on the case, she continues to drift further apart from her stepdaughter Leah (Isabella Star Lablanc). Although viewers see a bit of softness from Liz as she checks on Leah in her sleep, their contentious relationship boils over when the teen vandalizes the Silver Sky Mines office building, spray painting the word “Murderers,” across the entrance. “True Detective: Night Country” reached 2.7 million viewers with its third episode on Sunday night, which notably aired in competition with the NFC championship game. This marks a 5% increase compared to the previous episode.
The season has now seen two consecutive weeks of growth, as Episode 2’s 2.6 million viewers on Jan. 22 marked a 28% improvement from the premiere’s 2 million viewers. (These numbers come from a combination of Nielsen’s measurement of linear viewers on HBO’s cable channel as well as streams on Max through each episode’s first night of availability). Additionally, these episodes continue to grow on Max: Episode 1 jumped from 2 million to 7.5 million viewers after one first week and now sits at 10.7 million viewers, while one week of streaming availability for Episode 2 boosted it from 2.6 million to 8 million viewers.
Thus far, “True Detective: Night Country” is outpacing “Succession” Season 4 and “The White Lotus” Season 2, HBO’s most recent comparable titles.

Viewership of “True Detective: Night Country” saw a 28% increase with its newest installment on Sunday night. After the season premiered with 2 million viewers last week, Episode 2 reached 2.6 million viewers.
These numbers, which combine Nielsen’s measurement of linear viewers on HBO with first-party data from HBO regarding streams on Max through each episode’s first night, represent success for “Night Country,” which is the fourth installment of “True Detective.” For comparison, the majorly acclaimed fourth season of “Succession” premiered in with 2.3 million viewers — while enjoying the benefit of concluding its third season more recently while “True Detective” has been off the air for five years —then dipped down to 2 million with its second episode. Season 2 of “The White Lotus,” which more closely matches “True Detective’s” anthology style, premiered with 1.5 million viewers, and while data is unavailable regarding Episode 2, Episode 6 set a then-series high of 2.3 million viewers, which “Night Country” has already surpassed.

True Detective made a strong return to HBO on Sunday night.
The premiere episode of Night Country delivered about 2M viewers across Max and linear telecasts, according to Warner Bros. Discovery.
This is a pretty strong showing for True Detective, which returned for its fourth installment five years after the Season 3 debut. It’s not entirely accurate to compare Night Country‘s performance to Season 3, considering it was released before the launch of Max.
To help put the numbers into perspective, The White Lotus Season 2 debuted with 1.5M cross-platform viewers, while Euphoria managed 2.4M for its Season 2 debut. The final season of Succession came out of the gate with 2.3M for its premiere episode.
It’s also not uncommon for HBO series to put up a significant amount of viewership as the season progresses. According to the company, episodes of The White Lotus and Euphoria Season 2 ultimately grew to around...

Spoiler Alert: The following story contains details from the season premiere of True Detective: Night Country.
The night is dark and full of terrors in Ennis, Alaska, the fictional setting for the fourth season of acclaimed crime anthology True Detective, which premiered tonight on HBO.
This is the Night Country of the show’s subtitle, where eight scientists from the Tsalal Arctic Research Station suddenly, one day in mid-December, disappear. Stepping in to investigate, at a time of year that sees constant darkness in the Arctic, are Detectives Liz Danvers (Jodie Foster) and Evangeline Navarro (Kali Reis), women of quite different backgrounds and life philosophies. A highly inquisitive career cop, the former has lived in Alaska her whole life. Better relating to the largely Iñupiaq local community is the latter, a woman of Indigenous heritage with an ex-military background and a deeper sense of connection to the spiritual world. Whereas...

[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for “True Detective” Season 4, Episode 1, “Part 1.” Welcome to Night Country.]
Liz Danvers (Jodie Foster) is having a shit day. Her step-daughter, Leah (Isabella Lablanc), got caught having sex with her 16-year-old girlfriend… on camera. On the drive home, a drunk driver nearly T-boned them, which also sparked traumatic memories of her husband and son’s deaths. Hank (John Hawkes), the former captain she replaced, is throwing up roadblocks to their investigation. His son, Pete (Finn Bennet), is her only reliable deputy. Her fantasy football team is all banged up and, oh yeah, there’s a group of missing scientists who, it turns out, froze to death in the cold, dark, Alaskan night.
Evangeline Navarro (Kali Reis) is also having a shit day. Her first call on the radio was to make sure a man who beats his wife wasn’t accidentally killed by her best friend. Later, she gets a call...

This post contains spoilers for the premiere of True Detective: Night Country, which is now available on HBO and Max.
Early in True Detective: Night Country, we are told that it is December 17, aka the date of the last sunset of the year in the remote northern town of Ennis, Alaska. For a stretch each winter this close to the top of the world, the darkness is inescapable, making it impossible to differentiate day from night without a watch or other device that tells you whether it’s a.m.

The fourth installment of HBO’s True Detective series is poised to be the spookiest yet. Set in the remote town of Ennis, Alaska, Night Country follows former partners Liz Danvers and Evangeline Navarro as they investigate the disappearance of eight researchers from a remote facility. The pair have a tense past, not only with each other, but with others in their small town.
True Detective: Night Country marks Jodie Foster’s first television appearance since the ’70s – not counting her handful of voiceover and narration guest roles in the ’90s and early ’00s – though certainly not her first time starring in a thriller. Foster is joined by a number of other talented actors, including Kali Reis, Fiona Shaw, and Christopher Eccleston.
Here’s everyone you need to know in True Detective: Night Country, and where you’ve seen them before.

Looking back, 2014 was truly a different time: Obama was in office, skinny jeans still reigned supreme and “True Detective” established itself with an unabashed emphasis on masculinity. Three years earlier, Ryan Murphy had revived the anthology series with “American Horror Story,” but it took the imprimatur of HBO, massive movie stars and a “serious” genre like crime to give the format real prestige. In pairing Matthew McConaughey with Woody Harrelson on a journey through the bayou, creator Nic Pizzolatto elevated some of that genre’s clichés and left others intact — including a marginal presence for women, crowded into bit roles as wives and villains to make room for portentous monologues and four-minute tracking shots.

Pet Sematary has been sequelized, rebooted, and now with the arrival of Pet Sematary: Bloodlines it has a prequel. Adapting Stephen King’s works for the screen is a risky enough proposition, creating new stories based on them even more so as anyone whose seen a few Children of the Corn sequels or reboots can attest. King himself however seems to be happy with this film and tweeted:
“In the book, this is the story Jud Crandall tells Louis Creed to try and dissuade him from using the Pet Sematary,” wrote King. “The screenplay takes a few liberties, but it’s a fine story. David Duchovny is excellent. The secret, as always, is caring about the characters.”

"True Detective" has been a rough beast. The first season felt like it came out of nowhere, and proceeded to blow our minds in the process. Arriving at the height of The McConaissance, when Matthew McConaughey stopped making awful rom-coms and reminded us all he was a great actor, the first season, created by Nic Pizzolatto and helmed entirely by Cary Joji Fukunaga, was the very definition of must-see TV. A strange, funny, existential bit of pulp, the series featured McConaughey and Woody Harrelson as mismatched cops looking into ritualistic murders. That first season occasionally hinted at the supernatural while never fully embracing it, and despite its bleaker-than-bleak nature, ended on a surprisingly hopeful note. After all, that season concluded with McConaughey's miserable Rust Cohle commenting: "Well, once there was only dark. You ask me, the light's winning."

Premiering almost exactly 10 years after the launch of the first season and almost exactly five years after the Mahershala Ali-centric third season — time being a flat circle, as the now-punchline goes — True Detective: Night Country is perched precariously in conversation with, and in contrast to, the show created by and steered by Nic Pizzolatto.
Created by Issa López, who wrote or co-wrote most of the season and directed all six episodes, Night Country is, in some ways, a throwback to the first season, bringing back the uncomfortable intersection of true crime narrative and supernatural undertones. The season also includes direct nods to imagery and dialogue from the first season — generally unnecessary citations that feel like a sop to the Pizzolatto-worshipping corner of the fandom, since otherwise Night Country is at odds with the previous seasons in terms of theme and overall perspective.

True Detective has had a long and storied history on the small screen.

Now, we're getting True Detective: Night Country, a new chapter in the anthology series.
Below, we've rounded up everything we know about True Detective: Night Country.
What is True Detective Night Country About?
We have a synopsis from HBO:
When the long winter night falls in Ennis, Alaska, the eight men who operate the Tsalal Arctic Research Station vanish without a trace.
The White Lotus Season 3: Everything We Know
To solve the case, Detectives Liz Danvers (Foster) and Evangeline Navarro (Reis) will have to confront the darkness they carry in themselves, and dig into the haunted truths that lie buried under the eternal ice.

The new trailer for the upcoming season of HBO’s hit crime show True Detective has just been released courtesy of The Hollywood Reporter. Season 4 of the anthology brings audiences to Alaska, where the location is known for having days of constant sunlight as well as constant darkness. Both extremes have been depicted in films like Christopher Nolan‘s Insomnia and the vampire movie 30 Days of Night. This new trailer has Jodie Foster back at odds with a mysterious killer, which will ring memories of Silence of the Lambs, and she pairs up with Kali Reis to solve a case that seems to tread on supernatural elements. It also looks as if this season is connecting to past seasons with the reveal of a spiral marking that has been featured in season one and season three.

Writer/director Lindsey Anderson Beer’s Pet Sematary prequel Pet Sematary: Bloodlines was made specifically for the Paramount+ streaming service, but now it has been announced that Paramount is going to be doing something I wish streaming services would do much more often: while continuing to stream the movie, they will also be giving it a digital, 4K, Blu-ray, and DVD release! The digital version will be available for rent or purchase as of December 5th, with the physical media release following on December 19th.
Said to be “based on an untold chapter penned by Stephen King“, Pet Sematary: Bloodlines centers on a young Jud Crandall in 1969, who has dreams of leaving his hometown behind but soon discovers sinister secrets buried within and is forced to confront a dark family history that will forever keep him connected to the town. Since the WGA and SAG strikes began in mid-2023, there has been continued speculation about what shows completed production, as well as where filming was able to continue. Now, as the new year creeps closer, fans are itching to know what they can expect to see next, and HBO has kindly provided a few answers.
During a press preview Thursday morning, Bloys confirmed “House of the Dragon” Season 2 would return in the summer of 2024. The series was able to continue filming during the SAG and WGA strikes due to its UK-based union contracts, though the extensive post-production work still means it will be nearly two years between when the first season premiered and the second season is released.
