Meta‘s latest AI-generated characters look awfully familiar.
The parent company of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp has partnered with a group of celebrities and influencers to launch 28 new AI chatbots. Those characters include “Zach,” who looks and sounds just like MrBeast, and “Coco,” a “dance enthusiast” who is a dead ringer for Charli D’Amelio.
The celeb-lookalike chatbots were developed using the second generation of Llama, Meta’s large language model. The participating celebs allowed Meta to record their voices and film their movements. That data was then used to build the AI characters, who will chat with users on Messenger, Instagram, and WhatsApp.
Some of the stars who participated in Meta’s Llama 2 experiment — such as Snoop Dogg and Paris Hilton — are traditional celebs who have embraced emerging technologies. In order cases, Meta teamed up with YouTube and TikTok creators like MrBeast (real name Jimmy Donaldson), D’Amelio, and Lauren Riihimaki,...

Say it ain't so! Fans are devastated after finding out one of YouTube's most beloved couples, Lauren Riihimaki (aka LaurDIY) and Alex Wassabi, decided to break up after three years together. They announced their shocking split in an emotional video posted on Sept. 15. "Basically, we just feel like we both need specific things and we're not fully on the same page and we need to take time apart. So for us to come back better and stronger, we have to take time and focus on ourselves," she said while holding back tears as Alex comforted her. It was very difficult for the exes to make the video, but they felt compelled to share the news with fans. "I want you guys to hear it from us, we don't hate each other and it's not the end of the world," she said. Lauren and Alex agreed it was the "best three years" of their lives.

Lauren Riihimaki and Alex 'Wassabi' Burriss, one of YouTube’s favorite creator couples, announced in an emotionally-charged video over the weekend that they are taking some time away from their relationship.
Riihimaki, 25, explained that the couple is “not fully on the same page” right now, and are temporarily separating to focus on themselves -- in hopes of one day returning together stronger. ”A lot of you guys think that we are your couple goals,” Burriss, 28, added. “But we don’t want you to lose faith in love because we haven’t. Sometimes you have to take some time apart to realize what you have.” If the split feels out of the blue for fans, they said, it feels similarly for them.
Riihimaki and Burriss have been together for three years, during which time they have frequently collaborated on videos together and have even released co-branded merch. Rhiimaki, who is readying...

Are TV stars — or, at any rate, people who have appeared on television — more reliable magnets for digital audiences than internet-native creators?
Kin Community was founded in 2011 as a specialized YouTube multichannel network aimed at young female audiences, aggregating content from creators like Rosanna Pansino (of Nerdy Nummies), Hannah Hart (MyHarto), Jenn Im (Clothes Encounters), and Lauren Riihimaki (LaurDIY).
Now the L.A.-based entertainment company is shifting gears: Kin is focused on producing its own programming geared around recognizable “mainstream” talent from TV, de-emphasizing its original mini-McN approach.
The change in strategy is based on the success Kin has found from Tia Mowry’s “Quick Fix,” which launched last fall as a weekly show offering up tips and life hacks for moms. The show from Mowry, best known for her starring role in ’90s sitcom “Sister, Sister,” built a viewership that has outstripped many cable TV shows — and...

Even the most popular kids online deal with cyberbullying.
“99.9 percent of all the comments are so nice and so empowering and motivating and supportive there’s that, like, one, tiny, like, .01 percent that are just, like, so angry at their life that they want to hate on you,” YouTube star Lauren Riihimaki (a.k.a. LaurDIY) said on the Instant Interview Stage at Vidcon Friday.
But the digital creator — whose YouTube channel has 5.8 million subcribers — revealed there are ways to protect yourself and the people you love from the hate.
