Mumbai, Nov 19 (Ians) Even as Team India finds itself locked in a nail-biting battle of wills against Australia, diehard fans of Rohit Sharma & Co are turning to Kabir Khan’s Ranvir Singh-starrer ’83’ for solace. After all, back in 1983, Kapil’s Devils had put up an eminently beatable score of 183 in their surprise appearance at Lord’s in the Odi Cricket World Cup final against the then cricket superpower West Indies, yet they came home with the prized trophy.
Pan to Ahmedabad 2023, where we just saw the Australians mount an asphyxiating bowling attack on Team India, restricting them to 240 runs.
Forty years ago, as a generation learnt from ’83’, India too had lost the toss, and was asked to bat first by the West Indies, who bowled out their less-fancied rivals for 183, sending Indian fans into a sulking vortex, just like after the first innings of the ongoing Word Cup Final.

New Delhi, Jan 6 (Ians) Former India opener and ex-chairman of selection committee Krishnamachari Srikkanth has signalled out talismanic batter Virat Kohli to help other players in the team excel in their roles for the 2023 Odi World Cup, to be held in the country in October and November.
“What role clarity do we need to give them? Look at Ishan Kishan for example, how he hits the ball, he has even scored a double century recently. Just tell these players to go out there and play your game, don’t restrict them.
“Just like Ishan Kishan, you need two or three more players who aren’t afraid to express themselves, that’s number one. All-rounders, batting all-rounders, bowling all-rounders are required in this line-up. There should be a combination of these players in the team. And what about Odi cricket? Mumbai, Nov 28 (Ians) Former India captain Krishnamachari Srikkanth has expressed his disappointment at wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant for not utilizing the opportunities coming his way and cementing a permanent place in the Indian white-ball sides. He has also criticized the team management for the way they’ve handled the young wicket-keeper.
Pant, who rose through the ranks as a big-hitting middle-order batsman who can play the role of a finisher in the white-ball squads had to fight for his place in the playing XI in recent times with veteran Dinesh Karthik brought into the squad for the T20 World Cup.
A look at Pant’s figures in the T20 format reveals that he has been failing to capitalise on chances. In his last 10 innings in the shortest format of the game, the Delhi batter has crossed 40 runs just once, 30 once, 20 or more twice, and thrice has been dismissed in single-digit totals.

New Delhi, Nov 14 (Ians) Krishnamachari Srikkanth, the former India cricketer and ex-chairman of the senior men’s selection committee, said if he was the current chief selector, he would appoint Hardik Pandya as the captain of the side till the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup and would get down to rebuilding the side from the upcoming three-match T20I series against New Zealand.
In the recently-concluded T20 World Cup in Australia, India entered the semifinals of the tournament by becoming table-toppers from Group 2, winning four out of their five matches.
But their quest of ending a nine-year wait for a World Cup trophy came to an abrupt halt with a crushing 10-wicket loss to eventual champions England in the semifinal at the Adelaide Oval, which led to India being criticised heavily for playing an outdated version of T20 cricket.

Melbourne, Nov 14 (Ians) Former India cricketer Krishnamachari Srikkanth feels that in the lead-up to the recently-concluded Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia, the Rohit Sharma-led side should have focused on impactful bilateral series against top teams and could have included more of those players who would have proved to be useful in Australian conditions.

New Delhi, Sep 14 (Ians) Former India cricketers Krishnamachari Srikkanth and Irfan Pathan have backed talismanic batter Virat Kohli to bat at number three position in their predicted playing eleven as the final leg of preparations for Men’s T20 World Cup kickstart through the three-match series against Australia, followed by South Africa.
After taking a break of a month and a half from the game, Kohli roared back to form in Asia Cup 2022 as second-highest run-getter, with 276 runs in six matches at a strike rate of 147.59, including 122 against Afghanistan and a brace of fifties against Hong Kong and Pakistan respectively.
Kohli’s return to form augurs well for India in their quest to win the Men’s T20 World Cup trophy in Australia, to be held from October 16 to November 13, for just the second time after winning the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2007 in South Africa.

New Delhi, Sep 12 (Ians) Former India captain and ex-chairman of selection committee Krishnamachari Srikkanth on Monday questioned the absence of Mohammed Shami from India’s T20 World Cup squad, saying that the pacer would have been an ideal pick for the bouncy pitches of Australia.
As per Srikkanth, Shami could have given India early wickets with the new-ball Down Under. The 62-year-old former cricketer’s reaction came after the Bcci announced India’s 15-man squad for the T20 World Cup 2022, starting October 22.
Veteran fast bowler Shami was included as part of a 4-man standby but he is not in the main squad. Jasprit Bumrah, Harshal Patel, Arshdeep Singh and Bhuvneshwar Kumar along with all-rounder Hardik Pandya are the fast-bowling options in the squad.
