Salynn Jacob
- Additional Crew
Salynn Jacob was born in Portland, OR. Ever since she was a young girl she wanted to work with wild animals. In High School she was told to look into Wildlife Biology when choosing a college. With this in mind she picked The University of Montana as her first choice.
While all her friends stayed in Washington State she ventured off alone into unknown lands called Missoula, MT. During her Sophomore year she was diagnosed with a sinus infection that later revealed she was allergic to a lot more than pistachios and cashews. One of Salynn's top allergies turned out to be animals. She couldn't be near one for more than 20 minutes before her asthma kicked in. The future suddenly became scary because it had all disappeared.
During her Junior year she decided to make her minor, Theatre, into her new major. She had only ever done backstage work (lighting, sound, costuming, house management, etc.) up until then, but she loved theatre so much that she was determined to experience all sides of it. This also gave her a chance to build up experience to one day apply for an internship with the Colbert Report.
Salynn was introduced to the show when a friend in High School showed her a clip. From then on she made "becoming an intern for Stephen Colbert" one of her goals in life.
On August 25, 2014, Stephen Colbert received the last award that the Colbert Report would ever get. Thanks to Jimmy Fallon's speech (that Stephen Colbert whispered in his ear), Salynn was able to claim her goal had come true. This, of course, wasn't enough for her since she wanted to really experience it. She had heard that Stephen Colbert was taking over for Letterman. When she looked further into this she discovered instead of internships the Late Night Show with Stephen Colbert had year long apprenticeships. Now, Salynn is wanting to venture again into unknown lands in hopes of making one of her dreams really come true and is determined to not let this chance slip away. She's stubborn, hardworking, and continues to aim for above and beyond what is expected.
In Mid August of 2017, Salynn discovered the apprenticeship she's been waiting for open up again! She applied and since she had not heard back it is assumed she did not get the apprenticeship, which was okay. Instead of feeling down she decided to pursue a Master's degree in Secondary Education while also building up her theatre resume with professional experiences (instead of just academic ones). No matter what, she is determined to keep moving forward.
The rest of her future is yet to be written. Will she get the apprenticeship in the future? Can she find the prefect hypo-allergenic puppy she's always wanted? Stay tuned...
