At the start of Matt Groening's and David X. Cohen's 31st-century sci-fi sitcom "Futurama," the alcoholic robot Bender (John Dimaggio) sounded a little bit more like a drunken vagrant. He slurred his speech more and seemed less able to concentrate. As the show progressed, Bender became more self-assured, like the guy at the bar who — after his fourth shot of Jim Beam — is 100% confident he could thrash the bouncer. Bender became egotistical in addition to being a drunken criminal. On DVD commentary tracks, the makers of "Futurama" have said that Bender, in being a robot, allowed them more explicit depictions of violence and vice; a human character cannot drink a gallon of rotgut whiskey and smoke four cigars simultaneously, but a robot can. The Fox censors are weird.

It’s been a busy year for Muse. The legendary British rock trio is set to release their ninth studio effort this week, Will Of The People, which arrives as the band is two-thirds of the way through a 30-show tour that’s seen them play to as many as 90,000 fans in massive stadiums along the European summer festival circuit.
And yet, the tour began in front of just 220 ebullient die-hards at the Cavern Club in Exeter, England earlier this spring. The subterranean venue in the heart of this historic...

The last time Muse set foot onstage together was two and a half years ago in Lima, Peru, the final date of their Simulation Theory world tour. The show was an explosive, sci-fi circus rife with majestic dystopian themes, and laser-tag neon lighting. These bandstand theatrics have been a trademark of the trio’s live shows for almost two decades, but for their first gig since 2019, they’re taking a different approach. Thanks to Jim Beam, the band is returning to their hometown, for an intimate performance in front of the community that raised them.

Bethenny Frankel is one of the most successful reality stars from The Real Housewives franchise. When she started filming the show, she was working as a chef, trying to launch her own baked goods business, and she had no money in her bank account. But while filming The Real Housewives of New York, Frankel got the idea for the low-calorie Margarita, a drink she called the Skinnygirl Margarita. She documented her journey as an entrepreneur on the show and ended up selling her business for a reported $100 million to Jim Beam. The business expanded to include wine, mixed drinks, […]

Blake Shelton pays homage to George Jones, Elvis Presley, the Flintstones and Jim Beam bourbon in his latest “Friends and Heroes Session” release — a cover of “The King Is Gone (So Are You).” The 1989 single by Jones was penned by songwriter Roger Ferris and was one of the country icon’s last for Epic Records before he began recording for Nashville’s McA label.
The otherwise forlorn tale of a man drowning his sorrows in whiskey presents a bit of absurdist humor as Shelton sings, “I pulled the head off Elvis,...

Three weeks after calling Ivanka Trump a “feckless c—” Samantha Bee’s TBS program “Full Frontal” is starting to see advertisers return.
Wednesday night’s episode saw an increase from bigger brand advertisers, including ETrade, Progressive, Kia, as well as Wonderful Pistachios and Grand Canyon University. Universal ran commercials for both “The First Purge” and “Skyscraper,” and Sony’s PlayStation also aired an ad. The two companies have advertised each of the past two weeks.
For the previous two weeks, “Full Frontal” had roughly one-third of its usual amount of national advertisers.

Bee set off a firestorm in her May 30 episode when she called Ivanka Trump a “feckless c—” for not doing more about President Trump’s immigration policies. But once Bee apologized during the subsequent episode on June 6, for using the slur, TBS had expected advertisers to return.

Samantha Bee served up plenty of jokes on Wednesday night. Many advertisers weren’t there to help her in her quest.
The first broadcast of Bee’s TBS series “Full Frontal” after she sparked a controversy last week contained far fewer national commercials than it normally does, a signal that Madison Avenue find the comedienne too hot to support a week after she used a charged epithet that refers to a part of the female anatomy to insult President Donald Trump’s daughter, Ivanka. The Time Warner-owned cable network filled the commercial breaks of her program largely with promos for other programs on TBS and TNT, such as “Drop The Mic,” “Claws,” and “Conan.” Only a small handful of national ads for PlayStation; the Warner Brothers movie “Ocean’s 8”; the Epix cable series “Deep State”; and the latest entry in the Univeral Pictures “Jurassic World”series accompanied this week’s broadcast of the program.
