The Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is finally here, and both fans and critics have had the opportunity to voice their opinions on the movie and will be able to do it in the upcoming weeks. The Planet of the Apes reboot franchise has been one of the most successful reboots in history, with the new trilogy becoming a critical and commercial success. Now, a new trilogy set 300+ years after the first one is in the works, and it seemed that 20th Century Studios was taking a big risk with this new trilogy, but as things stand now – the risk had paid off!
Namely, as per the earlier critics’ reviews, the film has already been Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, with an 82% rating after 164 reviews. The fans are also very satisfied with the movie, as it seems, with the movie having an identical rating among fans as well.

This article contains spoilers for "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes."
Wes Ball's "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes" isn't a reboot of the beloved franchise, nor is it a direct sequel to the most recent trilogy, but instead a standalone sequel set hundreds of years after the time of Caesar, the evolved patriarchal leader played by Andy Serkis. Caesar in this series differs from the character played by Roddy McDowell in the original, as this version sees apes and humans as unlikely equals rather than inherently viewing the latter as subservient, and even lets fellow ape Koba fall to his death for ruining the chance for apes and humans to have peace.
Humans are being ravaged by the simian flu, a condition that allows the apes to flourish from an evolutionary standpoint but wipes out a majority of humanity. Those that survive due to genetic immunity splinter into small communities,...

Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes continues the “Planet of the Apes” science fiction saga that was rebooted from 1968’s The Planet Of The Apes with Charleton Heston into a trilogy that started with Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes. The last two films in that trilogy, Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes and War For The Planet Of The Apes, directed by Matt Reeves and starring the great motion-capture actor Andy Serkis as lead ape Caesar, reached soaring, almost Shakespearean, storytelling heights, while also wowing audiences with the realism of its technically advanced motion-capture acting and special effects.

The Planet Of The Apes franchise has seen five feature films from the original movies, one from Tim Burton in 2001, a successful prequel series starring the amazing Andy Serkis, a live-action television series, an animated Saturday morning series, comic books, trading cards, action figures, you name it.
50 years ago in 1974 20th Century Fox came up with the clever idea to offer all five movies at once to select movie theaters, and program them together as a “Go Ape!” movie marathon.
Inventive marketing at the time, the films starred the incomparable Roddy McDowall, who played Cornelius and Caesar, in 4 out of the 5 movies. All the movies can now be found on streaming services.
In 2024, Pota fans were offered the chance to see the film on May 8th at the special Fan Event and “Go Ape” again!

Stars: Owen Teague, Freya Allan, Kevin Durand, Peter Macon, William H. Macy, Travis Jeffery, Lydia Peckham, Dichen Lachman | Written by Josh Friedman | Directed by Wes Ball
Directed by Wes Ball (the Maze Runner movies), Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is the fourth film in the Planet of the Apes reboot franchise and the tenth Apes film overall, if you include Tim Burton’s 2001 version. The new film is set 300 years after the events of War of the Planet of the Apes (2017) and is clearly intended as the first instalment of a new trilogy, even if the marketing hasn’t shouted about that all too loudly.
After a short prelude depicting the ceremonial funeral of Caesar (the noble leader of the apes and the hero of the previous movies), a caption explains that a virus has all but wiped out mankind and apes are now the dominant species on Earth.

When it was first announced that the Planet of the Apes franchise was going to get the reboot treatment back in the now-Jurassic era of 2011, you could feel a familiar cynicism kick in: Great, another recognizable intellectual property getting trotted out for a quick cash grab, just in time for a corporate quarterly report. We’d finally washed the ashy taste of that ill-advised Tim Burton remake from 2001 out of mouths, and now Warners was going back to the ’70s pop culture well, ready to ransack musty nostalgia from chimpan-a to chimpan-z.

Franklin J. Schaffner's 1968 sci-fi classic "Planet of the Apes" introduces its titular primates in a gloriously nightmarish fashion. The film's central astronaut trio, lost on a distant planet (wink), finds panicked, mute humans running through a field of tall grass, fleeing attackers on horseback. The camera then zooms dizzily into the face of one of said attackers, revealing that he is, in fact, a gorilla. This world, we see, is topsy-turvy. It is a place where humans and apes are transposed, with the former treated like animals by the latter. Schaffner, and screenwriters Michael Wilson and Rod Serling, present this tilted universe as a conduit for satire, a means to dissect and examine the foibles of humanity via the absurd -- even whimsical -- image of talking ape men. The film may end on a bleak note, but there's some levity mixed into the very batter.

“Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” director Wes Ball thinks it’s high time that Wētā FX got its due for its innovative simian performance capture animation. So he intends to peel back the curtain for the first time on the upcoming Blu-ray release. As first reported on the “Ape Nation” podcast, Ball will offer the entire movie, which takes place 300 years after the reign of Andy Serkis’ Caesar, as a bonus feature in a before- and-after comparison of raw dailies and completed performance capture animation and VFX.
“I think VFX is too much maligned…when it’s a tool like anything else,” Ball told IndieWire. “So I think to show the absolute peak of artistry and what these artists actually do is not some button that says, ‘Make Apes.’ These are true storytellers at work here. I want to show that off and celebrate it.”

A chimpanzee rests its chin on its hand, looking like the ape version of Rodin’s “The Thinker.” “There’s a picture of me somewhere sitting in that exact same position,” Owen Teague tells me before assuming a similar pose, swinging his long arm up and brushing his palm against the bottom of his face.
“There’s something very soft about the way that chimps move. Their hands are just super loose.”
He’s no zoologist, but Teague, the 25-year-old star of next month’s “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes,” knows a thing or two about animal behavior. After landing the lead role of Noa, a chimpanzee living in a post-apocalyptic world where humans have surrendered their apex predator status, Teague spent days at a Florida ape sanctuary. If there’s one thing apes are afraid of besides drowning, it’s George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road prequel Furiosa. To avoid conflict at the box office during Memorial Day weekend, 20th Century Studios‘ Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is moving to May 10 to avoid Furiosa’s wrath. The new date pushes Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes up by two weeks, giving the Wes Ball-directed action film time to earn more bananas at the box office before Furiosa inevitably leaves other releases in the dust.
The new date finds Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes competing with Focus Features’ Amy Winehouse biopic Back to Black, Sony’s horror comedy Horrorscope, and an untitled release from Angel Pictures. It’s also worth mentioning that Mark Lindal’s The Garfield Movie, starring Chris Pratt as the voice of the Monday-hating, lasagna-eating orange Persian tabby...

Fans can take a trip to the “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” sooner than expected.
Disney is moving up the release date for the new “Planet of the Apes” movie from May 24 to May 10. It avoids a crowded Memorial Day holiday weekend that also includes the releases of “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” and “The Garfield Movie.” The apes will now take on the Amy Winehouse biopic, “Back to Black,” on the new date.
“Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” will also screen in Imax for the first two weeks of its release, marking a first for an “Apes” movie.
The new movie is set 300 years in the future and follows a new civilization of apes, monkeys, gorillas, orangutans and other primates. The previous reboot trilogy, “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” (2011), “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” (2014) and “War for the Planet of the Apes...

The Maze Runner trilogy director Wes Ball’s addition to the Planet of the Apes franchise, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, is set to reach theatres on May 24, 2024 – and in an interview with Empire magazine, Ball revealed that he has drawn inspiration from the likes of Star Wars and Apocalypto when putting together his Apes movie.
According to Empire, Ball is making Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes “an adventure movie, tonally distinct from the darker impulses of the recent Apes trilogy, while hoping to retain what made those films so special.” The director said, “When I first started on it, I said, ‘I feel like Apes needs a little bit of Star Wars’. It’s all still very grounded in reality, but it is essentially a quest narrative. Our main character – the young, impressionable Noa [Owen Teague] – meets characters along the way and becomes awakened as...

The world of "Planet of the Apes" continues to grow, and the latest film has just cast Dichen Lachman in an undisclosed role, per The Hollywood Reporter. These days Lachman is most recognizable for her turn as the mysterious corporate counselor Ms. Casey on the excellent Apple TV+ series "Severance," but she's been a stand-out in sci-fi projects in particular for years now, with memorable turns in "The 100," "Dollhouse," "Altered Carbon," and more. She also appeared in last year's blockbuster "Jurassic World Dominion."
While Lachman's part in the story is still under wraps, THR's report also includes some plot details for "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes," and the story frankly sounds pretty wild. The follow-up to 2017's "War For The Planet of the Apes" will take place years after the third film in the new franchise and bring viewers to a version of the world that sounds...

Work has been underway for a while now on Wes Ball's new entry in the Planet Of The Apes franchise, Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes, but that isn't stopping casting news from getting out. William H. Macy is the latest addition to the ensemble.
With a script from Josh Friedman, Prey's Patrick Aison and recent Apes trilogy veterans Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, the new movie's strict plot is being kept under wraps for now, but we do know it takes place many years after the time of Caesar. And from the looks of the concept art, the planet has certainly moved on.
It's Owen Teague, The Witcher's Freya Allan and The Orville's Peter Macon are leading the cast, the film will also feature Kevin Durand, Sara Wiseman, Neil Sandilands, Eka Darville, Lydia Peckham, Travis Jeffrey and Ras-Samuel Welda'abzgi.

"Planet of the Apes" is one of the most legendary and enduring sci-fi franchises we have. The original 1968 film that started it all, which was co-written by "The Twilight Zone" creator Rod Serling, is still regarded as one of the finest entries in the genre ever created. But a new era was launched with "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" in 2011, introducing us to Andy Serkis as Caesar and launching a new trilogy. Matt Reeves took over with "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" and "War for the Planet of the Apes," which closed Caesar's story but paved the way for a bright future. Now, that future is nearly upon us.
Next up will be director Wes Ball's "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes," a continuation of the franchise under Disney, thanks to the merger with Fox in 2019. But what is this new installment going to deliver?...

To international audiences more accustomed to the relative restraint of China’s arthouse exports, “Only Cloud Knows,” a slab of toothcrackingly sentimental mooncake from regular national box-office conqueror Feng Xiaogang, might come as a bit of a surprise. This episodic, determinedly winsome love story, told in honeyed flashback, follows a grieving husband as he journeys to the places of significance to his beloved, dead wife across their adoptive New Zealand homeland.
The locations are stunning, the actors attractive and Feng — initially a comedy director, though he’s branched out in recent years to historical epics like “Back to 1942” and dramas like 2017’s record-breaking “Youth” — did not get where he is without learning a thing or two about playing an audience’s responses. So while your rational mind is rebelling against its more shameless manipulations, your hands may well be scrabbling through your bag for tissues, napkins, store receipts, candy...
