New Yorkers were shaken up on Friday morning when a 4.8-magnitude earthquake hit Lebanon, New Jersey, and was felt across the tri-state area.
The U.S. Geological Survey reported the quake at 10:23 a.m. local time, in the Jersey city about 45 miles west of New York City and 50 miles north of Philadelphia. According to The Associated Press, the agency notes that more than 42 million people may have felt the quake.
New York Gov. Kathy Hochul posted on X that the quake was felt throughout the state: “My team is assessing impacts and any damage that may have occurred, and we will update the public throughout the day.”
New York-based figures like late night host Jimmy Fallon and Daily Show correspondent Roy Wood Jr. responded to the earthquake with humor.
Fallon wrote in a tweet that has since been deleted, “Having a dance party with Godzilla rn in NYC. Sorry for the scare.

Actor/comedian Paul Reubens, famously known as Pee-Wee Herman mused about how the film Pee Wee’s Big Adventure referred to the Texas Alamo as having no basement.
In a quest to find his stolen bicycle, Pee-Wee heads to Texas, believing that his bike is in the basement of the Alamo. But after an endlessly boring tour, Pee-Wee is mocked by the tour guide who says, “There’s no basement in the Alamo!”
But there actually is a basement, something Reubens commented on in an interview in 2016.
Yes Pee-Wee, there is a basement in the Alamo
“This is a basement in the Alamo but it’s very misleading. When I wrote Big Adventure and we were looking up the Alamo in the World Book Encyclopedia,” Reubens told Texas Standard. “The World Book at that time said, ‘no basement in the Alamo.’”

Celebrities from across the world of TV, film and music have reacted as former US president Donald Trump was arrested and arraigned in court.
On Tuesday evening (4 April), Trump pleaded “not guilty” to 34 counts against him, before Judge Juan Merchan at a Lower Manhattan courthouse.
The felony charges relate to falsified business records surrounding a “hush money” payment made to adult film actor Stormy Daniels.
Trump is now the first US president to ever face criminal charges. Following his appearance in court, he lashed out at the judge’s family, and branded District Attorney Alvin Bragg a “criminal”.
You can follow the latest updates on Trump’s legal battle here.
Among the celebrities to react to the development were late night TV host Jimmy Kimmel, Star Wars actor Mark Hamill, filmmaker Rob Reiner and actor Whoopi Goldberg.

With the help of spot-on impersonator Nelson Franklin, Jimmy Kimmel played quite a montage making fun of Congressman “Curious George” Santos’ reelection filing Wednesday night.
After announcing that Santos had filed paperwork indicating his plans to run for reelection in 2024, the “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” host introduced the “first of many ads announcing this campaign.”
“Times are tough. Money is tight. Americans deserve better. I’m George Santos, and I’m running for reelection,” the congressman said in the beginning of the mock ad. “As the child of a mother who was Jewish and a father who was a velociraptor, I know all too well the challenges that are faced by everyday Americans.”

Seth Rogen is happy with his choice to not have children, and Kelly Clarkson, despite loving her own kids, sees his point. Sort of.
On Wednesday’s “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” the “Knocked Up” star candidly discussed why he and his wife, Lauren Miller, decided not to have children. He expressed no regrets.
“It doesn’t seem that fun,” Rogen explained. “And most of my friends that are parents — God bless them — spend a lot of their time talking about how much they don’t like having kids. And what me and my wife spend a lot of time talking about is how much fun stuff we can do because we don’t have kids.”
“I can see how it seems that way,” Clarkson, who has two children herself, said while laughing.
“I wouldn’t say it’s the most fun job because it’s overwhelming,” Clarkson continued, “but it’s a beautiful thing.

Comedian and Grammy presenter Randy Rainbow has heard all the Valhalla jokes.
“Yes, I totally had a Travolta/Adel Dazeem moment,” he says in an apology tweet today.
Presenting the first-ever Grammy for video game music during the pre-show Premiere Ceremony, co-host Rainbow mangled the pronunciation of the winner Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, saying something like “Assassin’s … .Creed Valaha.”
In a tweet titled “With sincerest apologies to Assassin’s Creed Valhalla,” Rainbow — who was nominated in the Best Comedy Album category — explains: “It was the second category of the show, I was still finding my footing and don’t know video games. Biden said a video of the song that appeared on his Instagram was viewed more than 40 million times in less than 48 hours. Beyoncé made the biggest news of the night Sunday at the 65th annual Grammy Awards.
The singer led the 2023 Grammy Awards nominations with a total of nine. Beyoncé’s career total of 88 nominations set a new record — one tied by her husband Jay-Z, who earned five noms this year. During the Premiere Ceremony, the pop star picked up two Grammys, breaking her 28-win tie with Quincy Jones. She also won best R&b song during the live broadcast, for “Cuff It,” tying late conductor Georg Solti’s 31-win record. She wasn’t there to accept that award, having experienced a very L.A. annoyance — being stuck in traffic — but arrived later during the ceremony, with host Trevor Noah presenting her the Grammy while she was seated in the audience. Later in the show, she won best dance/electronic album for Renaissance, beating Solti’s record, with a total of 32 career wins.

Dave Chappelle won Best Comedy Album at the 2023 Grammys for his recent Netflix comedy special, The Closer, which drew heavy criticism for jokes about the transgender community.
Critics accused Chappelle of “transphobic” remarks, such as saying he was “team Terf” (trans-exclusionary radical feminist). He was also widely condemned for claiming that the LGBTQ+ community was attempting to “destroy” the lives of celebrities such as Jk Rowling by “cancelling” them.
The US comedian beat out competition from Louis Ck – who admitted to sexual misconduct in 2017 – (Sorry), Jim Gaffigan (Comedy Monster), Randy Rainbow and Patton Oswalt (We All Scream) to win his fourth Grammy.
After Chappelle and Ck were nominated, Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr told The Hollywood Reporter, “We don’t control who the voters vote for.
“If the voters feel like a creator deserves a nomination, they’re going to vote for them.”

Dave Chappelle won best comedy album at the 2023 Grammys for his most recent special The Closer, which received backlash over material focused on the transgender community.
The comedian took the honor Sunday over Louis C.K. (Sorry), Jim Gaffigan (Comedy Monster), Randy Rainbow (A Little Brains, A Little Talent) and Patton Oswalt (We All Scream). The award serves as Chappelle’s fourth Grammy and follows C.K.’s controversial win last year for Sincerely Louis Ck, his first comedy album since his sexual misconduct revelations.
Chappelle was not in attendance during the Grammys Premiere Ceremony, where the comedy album prize and many of the other Grammy awards this year were presented, so presenter Babyface accepted the award on his behalf.

Dave Chappelle‘s third time hosting Saturday Night Live proved to be fruitful for NBC, as the episode hit a season high in ratings over the weekend.
The episode tallied a 0.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.8 million total viewers, according to live + same-day Nielsen data. In any other season, those numbers wouldn’t be anything to bat an eye at — but for Season 48 they’re pretty good.
The first five episodes of Season 48 have averaged around 4 million viewers, as the show struggles to bounce back with audiences after a major cast exodus prior to the start of the season. Even Amy Schumer couldn’t lift the sketch comedy show out of its ratings slump, managing a 0.79 demo rating and 4.3 million viewers when she hosted on Nov. 5. The week prior, Jack Harlow’s double duty as host and musical guest drew a 0.76 in the demo and just 4.1 million total viewers.

The children’s television program “Reading Rainbow” aired on PBS from 1983 to 2006, and “Butterfly in the Sky” is the story of how that show came to be, what it was like to work on it and its afterlife. The people interviewed here are all so nice, warm and likable that watching this movie is like sinking into a warm bath.
The key creators of the show were Twila Liggett, who started out as a teacher of eight- and nine-year-old kids, and Cecily Truett Lancit and Larry Lancit, a married couple who had a production company in New York. Liggett left teaching because she didn’t like the excessive and superficial testing of young kids, and she wanted to take what she had learned and bring it to television, which was seen as an enemy of reading for children in the early 1980s.

LeVar Burton did not mince words on Thursday when it came to his thoughts on banning books in schools. In fact, he had just one: “bulls—.”
The “Reading Rainbow” host stopped by “The View” in support of his new documentary, “Butterfly in the Sky,” named for the classic theme song of his show. While there, host Joy Behar made a point to call out how many books have been banned in schools lately, “especially about race, sexuality and basically American history.”
And, when she asked for Burton’s thoughts on the matter, he was ready.
“Bulls—,” he replied bluntly. “I’ll be absolutely candid and honest, it’s embarrassing that we are banning books in this country, in this culture, in this day and age. We have this aversion in this country to knowing about our past. And anything that is unpleasant, we don’t want to do deal with.

Randy Rainbow has made a name for himself in parodying some of the most insane things to come out of politicians’ mouths — particularly GOP representatives. But according to the singer, he really hasn’t heard from any of them over his creations.
In the last few months, Rainbow has skewered politicians like Ron DeSantis, for Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” bill, and Marjorie Taylor Greene and Lauren Boebert, for being “Karens.” Of course, fans of Rainbow will know just how brutal his lyrics can get. So, during Rainbow’s appearance on”Jimmy Kimmel Live!” on Tuesday night, the late night host was curious about their reactions.
But, according to Rainbow, he doesn’t hear from them.
“Marjorie Taylor Greene has never invited me to brunch,” he joked with Kimmel. “The moment she does, I’ll call you. We’ll go together.”

Andrew Cuomo, the disgraced New York governor who resigned today, was a creature of television.
He’d already been a successful politician — a street-fighting candidate turned three-term governor — before his rise to national prominence during the early days of the Covid-19 pandemic. But his daily televised briefings created the perception that Cuomo was the face of the national response to the virus.
This perception was badly flawed: For one thing, Cuomo “has been accused of deliberately obscuring the full scope of nursing home deaths in New York” due to his administration’s policy of forcing homes to readmit residents who’d had Covid, according to the New York Times. But Cuomo pushed past and through reality, creating his own.
The image Cuomo projected — leveraging both his ability to take over the airwaves once a day and a peculiar sort of anti-charisma — was of a one-man pillar of strength, holding the state up.

Meghan McCain is leaving “The View” after four years, and the move raises an important question — who’s going to take her place? Worry not, the People of the Internet already have plenty of ideas.
Some have real suggestions. While many are already speculating that McCain herself will eventually end up finding a job at Fox News, multiple current Fox folks are being floated as McCain’s replacement on ABC, arguing that “The View” will likely want to ensure another conservative voice continues to be on the panel. Suggestions there have included Candace Owens, Tomi Lahren and more.
Still others are hoping for the opposite. One popular choice is Ana Navarro, who has often filled in on “The View” when one of the hosts were out. Meanwhile, author David Hill suggested Ziwe, saying that she is the clear choice if “The View” is going to “atone” for McCain’s four years on the panel.

Apparently Trump hasn’t been keeping up with Twitter since getting booted from the platform.
“Rush Limbaugh already started a radio show in Hell,” tweeted Saturday Night Live‘s Luke Null, “and is ranting about how the devil should shut the fiery gates because all these Outsiders are ruining everything!”
Satirist Randy Rainbow offered a succinct, “Bye gurl. Amen.”
With a flood of social media posts compiling the many racist, homophobic, misogynistic and just plain cruel comments made by the right-wing radio host over the years, his supporters certainly made their voices heard too.

“A hero to many,” tweeted former Fox News host Glenn Beck. “An icon. A patriot. A revolutionary that saved radio.

Paul McCartney’s 50-year-old hit “Maybe I’m Amazed” gets a whole new lease on contemporary life in James Corden’s parody version “Maybe I’m Immune,” performed on The Late Late Show last night.
Sung from the perspective of President Donald Trump, “Maybe I’m Immune” contains lyrics like “Maybe I’m immune to the way the polls are looking” and “Maybe I’m immune to all the lies that I have made/I shouldn’t have downplayed/Maybe I’m afraid of the way that I might lose this”.
Corden’s parody references Trump’s recent boasts that he might be immune to Covid-19 now that he has it, a theory not found in science or logic.
Never to be outdone, YouTube star Randy Rainbow recruited Broadway legend Patti LuPone for his latest song parody, “If Donald Got Fired,” sung to the tune of “If Mama Was Married” from Gypsy.

Fox Sports is sidelining Thom Brennaman for the upcoming NFL season following a moment during Wednesday’s Cincinnati Reds baseball telecast in which the longtime announcer was heard using a homophobic word on a hot mic.

Musical theater parody master and political commentator Randy Rainbow is very excited about presumed Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden’s selection of Sen. Kamala Harris to be his running mate.
In fact, he thinks she’s like a knight in shining armor who will lead the Democratic party to a top-of-ticket victory over incumbent Republican Donald Trump and current vice president Mike Pence.
“Will she be crowned America’s new VP?” he sang in a Monday video to the tune of “Camelot,” name-dropping other Democratic senators — and primary adversaries — who’ve endorsed her: “Elizabeth and Bernie say, ‘Well, duh.”

He went on, highlighting Harris’ questioning of then-Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh when he appeared before the Senate in 2018 to respond to accusations of sexual misconduct, as well as her questioning of Attorneys General Bill Barr and Jeff Sessions.
