Katie Boulter has been playing great tennis at the start of the 2024 season, as she qualified for the Adelaide International main draw.
The British player has been kicking around for a while but has only recently really started to perform on a high level. She did some damage during the grass season last year and put herself in a position to essentially solidify herself as a top player this year.
Beating Jessica Pegula in the United Cup was a pretty good start to that undertaking, and she's keeping her level relatively high. To get into the main draw in Adelaide, Boulter played two qualifying matches and won both.
In the first one, she took on US talent Alycia Parks, and it was a pretty competitive match between two solid players. Boulter ultimately prevailed with an incredible beatdown in the final set, 6-0, which sealed the win in three sets.

Alex de Minaur came close to being a Top 10 player on the Atp Tour in the past, but now it's finally going to happen on Monday, January 8.
Alex de Minaur has been a steady performer for much of his career. The keyword is steady because he's been pretty solid for a long time, but it took him a long time to really get to the Top 10.
Part of that was some players overtaking him in the pecking order, but mostly, it was just him proving at a steady pace. He didn't have a meteoric rise, but he slowly got better over time, and that consistency and hard work paid off this week at the 2024 United Cup in his native Australia.
He delivered a stunning performance to beat Alexander Zverev in the United Cup, and that win will make him a Top 10 player in January.

Fresh from a career-best win over World No. 1 Novak Djokovic, home favorite Alex de Minaur was grilled by a journalist with a question about a marriage proposal.
On Wednesday, De Minaur became the first Australian to beat a reigning World No. 1 on home turf since 1996. Despite a lackluster effort against Djokovic at last year's Australian Open, the man nicknamed "Demon" gave the home fans something to cheer about this time at the United Cup.
A composed performance by de Minaur in Perth, aided by the Serb's injury woes, gave Australia a foothold in the tie, which Ajla Tomljanovic eventually sealed. The host nation will play Saturday's semifinal against Germany in Syndey.
While much of post-match talk was about de Minaur earning the finest win of his career, one curious journalist asked the Aussie whether he was contemplating proposing to his girlfriend Katie Boulter - the top-ranked British woman in the...

Tennis players are known to experience a range of emotions on a match court, and in order to play better, they need to release this built-up tension and emotion.
Some of the players, like World No. 1 Novak Djokovic, find fuel just by breaking their racket. Others like Andrey Rublev take it to the extreme levels of self-destructing by harming a body part. For Wta star Jessica Pegula, venting appears to be her way of coping with frustrations.
During a recent singles match at the United Cup, Pegula was extremely frustrated with her return game while playing Great Britain's Katie Boulter. The World No. 5 had never played Boulter before, but that didn't matter as she romped to take the first set 7-5.
Pegula then took a commanding 3-0 lead in the second set and looked to be cruising. But Boulter showed why she was the top-ranked British woman and turned the match on its head,...

Team USA overcomes Team Great Britain thanks a crucial win in the doubles after Katie Boulter sensationally kept her country alive with a win over Jessica Pegula.
We had a really brilliant matchup today at the United Cup when Team USA took on Team Great Britain. It wasn't expected to be a close match because many expected the Americans to win both singles and secure the tie, but that didn't happen.
Taylor Fritz did what he needed to do by beating Cameron Norrie in two sets. It was a pretty close match, but after the American secured the opening set, things got a bit easier. The final score ended up being 7-6(5) 6-4, with Team USA being up 1-0.
Many expected Jessica Pegula to follow up on that, but it didn't quite happen, even though she had a pretty good start. The match was really competitive and close, with the...

Katie Boulter stepped up in a big way to down Ajla Tomljanovic at the United Cup, sealing her nation's win over the host nation.
For the second year in a row, Australia is playing host to the United Cup, but this time around, things didn't really start well for them. Playing in Perh, Alex de Minaur was the first on the court, but he was beaten by Cameron Norrie in a nail-biting 3-set finish.
After that we had the Wta match between Boulter and TOmljanovic and the Brit kept it cool. Tomljanovic hasn't played much lately due to her injuries and it kind of showed Boulter had a breakout 2023 campaign and this is a brilliant start for her.
The opening set was a no contest, really, because, after 4 games, the Brit was up 4-0. Tomljanovic did win a few games, but she never really looked that dangerous for her opponent,...

The 2024 season has officially kicked off with the United Cup, and Cameron Norrie outlasted Alex de Minaur in three sets.
Despite the calendars still showing 2023, the 2024 season is officially underway with the United Cup that usually bleeds over into 2023 due to the amount of matches played. Most of the other events will begin on January 1st, but we have tennis going on.
In the first tie of the competition, Spain outlasted Brazil, and in the second, Great Britain took on host nation Australia. Cameron Norrie and Alex de Minaur were not a bad way to get us underway, and they certainly played a pretty interesting match.
It's a crucial matchup for both teams as this singles tie could end up proving decisive in the whole matchup. Norrie had the upper hand early after playing a ridiculously good set of tennis, mostly powered by his serve.

Spain proved to be the stronger tennis nation in the opening tie of the 2024 United Cup, beating Brazil despite heroics from Beatriz Haddad Maia.
The Brazilian woman, ranked no. 11 on the Wta Tour, was the highest-ranked player in the tie between Spain and Brazil, so it was not a surprise that her country relied on her.
That became true, especially after the men's singles match of the tie. Alejandro Davidovich Fokina showed his undeniable qualities, beating Thiago Seyboth Wild in two comfortable sets, 6-4, 6-0.
After that, Haddad Maia stepped onto the court in an attempt to level the score of the tie. She played Sara Sorribes Tormo, and despite having a one-break advantage twice in the first set, she had to fight in the tie-break.

British No. 1 Katie Boulter leads the list of nominations for the Wta Most Improved Player of the Year award alongside four other players.
This distinction is bestowed upon a player ranked inside the Top 100 and who showed substantial improvement throughout the season. Improvement in this case is attributed to form, results, and ranking. Boulter has been honored in this category thanks to her best-ever season on tour.
The 27-year-old started the season playing on the Itf circuit and ranked World No. 136. She excelled at that level winning one title from three finals. It was during the grass swing when Boulter made the whole world take notice of her talent.
She won the Wta 250 in Nottingham - her first title at the Tour level - in the historic all-British final. That result gave Boulter the blueprint to break the world's Top 50 for the first time thanks to third-round finishes at Wimbledon and the US Open.

For Katie Boulter , 2023 is unlike any other year, because she was able to accomplish some significant milestones in her career.
Four years ago Boulter suffered a stress fracture in her back that hindered her development and transition to the main tour. She fell outside the world's Top 100 and struggled for quite a few years to get back in due to recurrent injuries and inconsistent form.
But during this year's grass-court swing, Boutler re-established her presence in the world's Top 100 again. Having bagged a W60 Itf tournament in Canberra, Australia, at the turn of the year, Boulter finished a runner-up in two more Itf tournaments in Japan in May.
When she returned to the UK to compete on the lawns, she was among a handful of British women looking to replace injury-stricken Emma Raducanu as the country's best player . Boulter was one of the standout performers at the W100 tournament in Surbiton.

Sabalenka was spotted chugging a can of Pepsi in her match against British No. 1 Boulter who stretched the Belarusian in a tight contest. Boulter served for the first and second sets, but could not close out either of the sets as Sabalenka fought back valiantly .
The top seed at the China Open sipped on the drink throughout the match after receiving the can from her team along with a new racket. To celebrate victory just before her post-match on-court interview, she guzzled at the Pepsi can one final time.
Sabalenka is not affiliated with the carbonated soft drink but explained that it was meant to ease her stomach troubles. The 25-year-old laughed when quizzed whether the drink helped her mount...

Aryna Sabalenka is cruising through the draw at the 2023 China Open in Beijing, but perhaps Jasmine Paolini can stop her, let's see.
The Belarusian player touched down in Beijing as the new Wta 's world number one, something new for her because this is the first event she's playing as 'the best player in the world.'
Sabalenka got the honour after a strong run in New York, which didn't end with the trophy but saw her complete a childhood dream which she had worked toward for many years .
The experience in Beijing has been very solid so far. Her first match was the thrashing of Sofia Kenin yet the second one was a very hard-fought win over Katie Boulter . She didn't play as well in that match which makes this one rather interesting.
Should she repeat the second performance, Sabalenka might be beaten by the super-solid Italian who bested...

Aryna Sabalenka played her second match at the China Open and once again won, though she had to fight against an inspired Katie Boulter .
The Belarusian is enjoying her week in the Chinese capital, having won both matches she played at the Wta 1000 event. The first one came two days ago, and it was actually her first match as the world number one . This one was the second one she played, but the end result was the same - she won comfortably.
Taking on Boulter is easier said than done because the British player has been really solid this year, much more so than before. Even this match, despite being a loss, was contested pretty well by her, all things considered.
The opening set was pretty close, even though Sabalenka had some early break points. The Brit actually broke first, taking a 4-3 lead, but then gave back her serve...

Aryna Sabalenka was wonderful in the first match she played at the 2023 China Open in Beijing and she hopes to keep that going in the next round.
Sabalenka played her first match since the US Open disappointment and certainly lived up to the status of the number one player on the Wta Tour. The victory was spectacular as she smashed an in-form Sofia Kenin comfortably in two sets.
That performance is very bad news for Katie Boulter , who is not on the same level as Sofia Kenin and just played a rather long match. Whether she'll be fatigued remains to be seen, but I would be surprised if she looked very fresh after that one.
Head-to-head:
Boulter and Sabalenka played twice so far, and the Belarusian won both times. Neither match was particularly close, even the Wimbledon one, which went to three sets. This one will likely be even more...

Aryna Sabalenka played her first match as world number one on the Wta Tour, and she truly played like it beating Sofia Kenin in two sets.
Kenin had a minor resurgence of her own, recently going deep in consecutive events and returning to the Top 50 . She hoped that form would persist at the 2032 China Open in Beijing, but it didn't quite work out against Sabalenka.
The conditions in Beijing favoured the Belarusian quite a bit , and she demonstrated it well in this match. The bouncy conditions give Sabalenka plenty of time to unleash her full power, and it's been a major problem for Kenin.
It's likely to be a major problem for all players especially if she serves as well as she did today. The opening set started with a very confident Sabalenka breaking early and then simply adding more onto that.
The first set concluded after only 23 minutes as...

The 19th edition of the Korea Open will run from October 9th to 15th at the famous Seoul Olympic Park Tennis Center.
It is a Wta 250-level tournament contested on outdoor hard courts. The singles field comprises 32 players, six of whom will enter the main draw via the qualifying route on the weekend preceding the start of the main draw in Seoul.
The Korea Open reigning champion is Russia's Ekaterina Alexandrova who romped to the title at last year's edition beating Jelena Ostapenko in the final. Both the champion and the vanquished finalist will return to Korea's capital and will be among the top three seeds.

Aryna Sabalenka is officially the Wta 's top-ranked player, earning Iga Swiatek 's 75-week dominance in the latest Wta rankings.
Sabalenka rises to World No. 1 for the first time in her career after a run to her first US Open final. Swiatek's fourth-round exit aided her cause, meaning Sabalenka only needed to match the Pole's result to ascend to top spot.
Sabalenka with 9,266 points is clear of second-placed Swiatek by 1,071 points ahead of the busiest part of the regular tennis season. It is the first time the No. 1 ranking has changed hands since Swiatek took over from Ashleigh Barty at the start of April last year. New York, Sep 3 (Ians) Last year’s finalist Ons Jabeur of Tunisia needed nearly three hours to post a 5-7, 7-6(5), 6-3 comeback win over Czech player Marie Bouzkova at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
Saturday’s win was the second straight three-set triumph for the 29-year-old from Tunisia. After her latest closely-contested win, Jabeur meets Zheng Qinwen, the rising 20-year-old from China, in the Round of 16 on Monday.
Down 3-5, Jabeur had 15 errors to her opponent’s five, and looked as if she was on her way to conceding the set. The Tunisian rallied, but Bouzkova took the first frame, 7-5.
In the second set, the 29-year-old Tunisian was up a break at 5-4, when a physically ailing Bouzkova limped to her chair. After an off-court medical timeout, the Czech player returned with a look of distress on her face.

Katie Boulter was lucky to escape a potential default from the umpire at the 2023 US Open after sending a ball into the crowd in frustration during her second-round win.
Boulter's performances have certainly been on an upward trajectory for a number of months now . As is often the case for most British players, they are able to use the grass of Wimbledon as a platform to boost their performances leading into the hard courts later into the year.
Boulter is a great example of that, but after rallying from a set down to beat her Chinese opponent in the second round, things could have really escalated for her on another day.

The upcoming US Open will give a chance to many players to do something good, but a couple of them, like Mirra Andreeva , stick out.

Plenty of players will pass through the gates of Flushing Meadows, and we bring you some underdogs that might do great things in the upcoming fortnight. Although it's clear who are the top favourites , there's always a chance of major upset.

Fourth seed Jessica Pegula will face fellow American and sixth seed Coco Gauff in the quarterfinal of the 2023 Canadian Open in Montreal on Friday, August 11, 2023.
We didn't get this matchup last week in Washington following Pegula's shock defeat to Maria Sakkari . But the projections have worked out perfectly in Canada where the world number three has eased into the last eight without dropping a set.
Pegula couldn't have asked for a better draw to start things off here. She had a bye in the first round and then faced lucky loser Yulia Putintseva in her opening match, winning that one 6-4, 6-4. Her third-round match was a stroll for the most part, cruising past Jasmine Paolini 6-4, 6-0.
Gauff is the most in-form player at the start of the North American hard-court swing. She brings an eight-match win streak on Friday following her title success at the Citi Open last weekend.

Coco Gauff extended her winning streak to five matches by beating British player Katie Boulter in the opening round of the 2023 Canadian Open .

Her new coaching setup worked really well in Washington , and the formula is proving good in Montreal as well. She once again brought that aggressive play, and it put Boulter in a tough spot pretty early on. Shapovalov has been more than just a romantic partner to Bjorklund. He has been an advocate, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with her on key issues. Earlier this season, Shapovalov penned a compelling column for the Players’ Tribune, arguing for equal prize money , citing Bjorklund's experience.

The 2023 Poland Open in Warsaw will once again bring a lot of excitement to the Polish capital, especially because of one name on the entry list .
Running from July 24th to 30th, the Wta 250 tournament in Warsaw seems to be slowly but surely establishing its place in the calendar. The reason for that is quite simple, currently the biggest star on the Wta Tour, Iga Swiatek , comes from Poland.
Last year the Polish superstar competed at the event in Warsaw, but she lost to Caroline Garcia , who later became the champion of the event. While the defending champion won't appear at the event in 2023, the Polish No. 1 leads the entry list.
For Swiatek, playing at home is extraordinary , and that's why she makes sure to visit the tournament every time she can. She will probably make the Polish fans even happier if she managed to win the title.

Defending champion Elena Rybakina continued her 2023 Wimbledon Championships run by beating native hopeful Katie Boulter in two sets.
The Brit recently won her maiden trophy on the Wta Tour announcing herself as a player to watch at Wimbledon. Her play has been pretty good but unfortunately, she ran into the force that is Elena Rybakina.
The Kazakhstani player surprised herself and many others by winning her maiden Grand Slam trophy at Wimbledon last year. She's been flashing some strong potential for years but things simply never clicked for her until Wimbledon of last year.
She proved this year that the run was anything but a surprise as she booked another Grand Slam final earlier this year . She lost to Sabalenka in the Australian Open final this year but she's hoping to book another one in London. Roland Garros was cut short by an illness but fortunately, so far Rybakina mostly cruised through the draw.

Shortly after the two announced that they are dating, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Paula Badosa will appear on the court together at Wimbledon .
Of course, it won't be the very first time that they appear on the tennis court together as the two practiced in Mallorca before . However, it will be the very first time that they compete together in a competitive match.
Tsitsipas and Badosa signed up for the mixed doubles tournament, and the fact that they are a couple makes their pairing even sweeter. However, they are not the only couple in the draw. Alex de Minaur and Katie Boulter also teamed up and the two will start against Storm Hunter and John Peers.
On the other hand, Tsitsipas and Badosa will have a much more difficult draw. 'Tsitsidosa' as the two are called, will start against the top-seeded team of Austin Krajicek and Jessica Pegula from the United States.

For the second time in a day, protesters stopped play on the same court at Wimbledon by throwing around confetti.
As with any big event, Wimbledon too didn't escape protesters. We've been seeing this happen for a while now at sporting events as activists try to raise public conscience surrounding issues they believe are important. Most of these protests are to do with climate change as many people perceive that to be the biggest threat to people around the world.
Well, even with the generally great organisation at Wimbledon, protesters managed to impact the event. Earlier today a protester ran onto a court and threw around confetti on Court 18 which took time to clean. The match between Dimitrov and Shimabukuro was stopped immediately but continued after the court was cleaned.
It happened again during the match between Katie Boulter and Darie Saville on the same court. At 4-2 in the tiebreak,...

Scheduling has been one of the popular terms on the Atp & Wta Tours in 2023, and even the 2023 Eastbourne International didn't avoid a controversy.
It seemingly all started already at the Australian Open when Andy Murray and Thanasi Kokkinakis were forced to play until 4 Am . As the season continued to the clay-court part, the controversies continued with Italian Open having their own , and Roland Garros too .
There were always multiple reasons for it. One was the gender disparity. Often, women were not granted as many matches in the premier night slots as men. The other reason was the fact that the scheduling sometimes made it too difficult for fans to watch the matches because they were finishing too late.
Only a couple of days ago, on Sunday, when four final matches were played, the tournament organizers, and the Atp and Wta, didn't do a good job once again. All four final...

From June 25th to July 1st, the players will meet at the 2023 Eastbourne International in one of the most star-studded Wta 500 tournaments.
While the World No. 1 Iga Swiatek has decided to compete in Bad Homburg , and World No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka has decided to have a free week before Wimbledon, the rest of the Top 10 made their way to Eastbourne to create a star-studded draw for the Wta 500 tournament.
The last three champions of the event in Eastbourne are Petra Kvitova , Jelena Ostapenko , and Karolina Pliskova , who won it twice. And it will be the two most recent champions Kvitova and Ostapenko who will meet in a blockbuster first-round match of two former champions and two former Grand Slam winners.
On the other hand, Pliskova, who isn't seeded in Eastbourne, will start against Elise Mertens from Belgium in the first round, with a potential second-round match with either the sixth-seeded Maria Sakkari...

Iga Swiatek hasn't played since Roland Garros but the Polish player still holds the same rank she held after she won the event.
Last year's undisputed number one isn't so clear of everyone anymore but she's still holding on at the top of the Wta Rankings. With a solid lead of 930 points, Swiatek is ahead of Aryna Sabalenka but things could change drastically after Wimbledon.
Sabalenka is a far better player on grass and is expected to make a deep run at the event which would earn her plenty of points. She didn't play last year due to the ban and Swiatek self-admittedly has ways to go on grass courts .
Another player that could be in the mix for number one is Elena Rybakina , however,r her Roland Garros run ended abruptly due to an illness that prevented her from getting too many points, so she's a long way behind...

Emma Raducanu lost the British No. 1 spot recently on the Wta Tour, and now, she lost also the spot of the second highest-ranked Brit.
Only a couple of weeks ago, Katie Boulter overtook Raducanu as the British No. 1 , as the 2021 US Open champion recovers from a triple surgery. In the meantime, Raducanu is offering tennis lessons for $2,000 , while donating all the proceeds to the Lta's Youth Programme .
And it seems that Lta will be using that money really well as the British women's tennis has been on a rise recently, or at least during the historic week at the 2023 Nottingham Open which saw four British women in the quarterfinals of the Wta event for the first time in history.
Moreover, two British players will meet in the Wta final for the first time since 1977 , and thanks to that, Jodie Burrage is another player that will skip over Raducanu in...
