The biblical thriller Mary has reportedly wrapped production in Morocco, and Deadline reveals that the film will feature Sir Anthony Hopkins in another royal role after portraying the former King of Asgard, Odin, as well as Lear in the Prime original film, King Lear. Hopkins plays King Herod in the thriller that’s directed by DJ Caruso, whose credits include Disturbia, Eagle Eye and the Vin Diesel actioner xXx: Return of Xander Cage. He joins newcomer Noa Cohen, who plays the titular role. Cohen was chosen after a worldwide casting search and happened to grow up an hour away from where Mary was born in Israel. Cohen can be seen in the Israeli YA series My Nephew Bentz, Infinity and the 2022 feature Silent Game.
The plot synopsis, per Deadline, reads,
“In coming-of-age story Mary, the title character is shunned following the otherworldly conception of her child and forced into hiding.

The director is DJ Caruso (xXx: Return of Xander Cage), and the pic is produced by Mary Aloe, founder of Aloe Entertainment (Bruised), and Hannah Leader (Freud’s Last Session). Producing alongside were financiers Gillian Hormel (Bruised) of Ludascripts and Joshua Harris of PeachTree Media Partners (Not Without Hope).

Milla Jovovich returns to the genre she knows so well with World Breaker. She stars opposite Luke Evans from Fast & Furious 6 and Dracula Untold. Brad Anderson is in the director’s chair for this science-fiction film. Anderson is known for such bleak projects as Session 9, The Machinist (which famously had Christian Bale lose a scary amount of weight prior to playing Batman) and Transsiberian. He has been dabbling in TV over the recent years, having directing for shows like Titans, The Man in the High Castle and Peacemaker.
The synopsis for World Breaker, according to Deadline, reads,
“Five years ago, a tear in the fabric of reality brought creatures to our world from an alternate dimension bent on our destruction. A father hides his daughter on an island to keep her safe while he prepares her for survival and the battles to come. But when the world is about to break,...

Oh, the weather outside is frightful. So, naturally, we’re theming this week’s streaming horror picks around it. There’s something about horror movies set in winter that makes for an added layer of dread. The dreary, sunless skies could be a factor in establishing a grim mood.
But it probably has more to do with the harsh winter weather escalating the threat level and reducing survival odds. These five titles bring the chills in more ways than one and are off the beaten path a bit. As always, here’s where you can stream them this week.

When addicts lead stories, they’re not often heroes, and their arcs rarely stray from Sisyphean struggles against their drug(s) of choice. Those narratives are important in their own right, but it can also be refreshing to see addicts — who are, after all, just people — do something else.
Hulu’s “No Exit,” the second feature from director Damien Power (“Killing Ground”), offers its addict protagonist plenty to do, but it also puts her through an entirely different, at times garishly absurd, kind of hell.
The victim in question is Darby, a cynical young woman in the revolving door of recovery who busts out of rehab in Sacramento when she finds out her mother is dying in a Salt Lake City hospital. Just a few days sober and driving in a stolen car, her nerves are already worn thin by the time she’s stopped and directed to a rest...

If you’re thinking, “I’m so so sick of Winter with all the wind, snow, and icy blasts of frigid air! I need a sunny beach!”, then this flick may not be the cinematic escape. Perhaps the dessert backdrop of Death On The Nile may be “just the ticket”. But if you’re in the mood for another “whodunit”, then perhaps this new flick may test your “Poirot aspirations. Ah, but as I mentioned earlier it’s a “chiller” in more ways than one. And a “thriller”. Though it also places us in the main character’s quandry and “moral panic”. This story’s heroine must make a choice whether to risk her life (and put aside a family crisis) to intervene when the uncaring tundra-like landscape offers No Exit.

"The trick is... play the man, not the hand..." But does that also apply to real life and not just poker? 20th Century Studios has revealed an official trailer for a thriller titled No Exit, an intense thriller adapted from Taylor Adams' 2017 novel of the same name. This film will be debuting direct-to-streaming on Hulu this February. During a blizzard and stranded at an isolated rest stop Visitor's Center up in the mountains, a college student discovers a kidnapped child hidden in a car belonging to one of the people inside. This sets her "on a terrifying life-or-death struggle to discover who among them is the kidnapper." Starring Havana Rose Liu, Danny Ramirez, David Rysdahl, Dale Dickey, Mila Harris, and Dennis Haysbert. This film reminds me of Tarantino's The Hateful Eight, about a group of strangers who gather in a snow storm but everyone is not who they say they are.
