- Dave Cox was born in 1937. He died on September 3, 2011 in Cleveland, Ohio, USA.
- Lead singer for the Sharptones, who opened the "Upbeat" show on WEWS-TV Channel 5 in Cleveland, Ohio.
- Cox was the rare African-American front man for a band that was mostly white over the years. He started his music career while at Cleveland's John Marshall High School. In 1956, he formed a Motown-inspired band and led it as a singer and drummer. One of the musicians bought a Silvertone amp, inspiring the name Sharptones.
- Entertaining is what I do best. I can get wild. I jump on tables and the bar when I sing. There's a lot of Jackie Wilson and Joe Tex in me.
