In perhaps the most meta, mind-bending spy thriller in recent memory — especially if you have amnesia — the new film “Argylle” places reclusive fiction writer Elly Conway in the center of an international espionage caper. When it seems that her novels are needed to help decode the workings of some of the world’s best spies, the cat-loving author finds herself in danger… but is there more to Elly than meets the eye? Find out on Friday, April 12 when the film arrives on Apple TV+. The star-studded film was at the center of a lot of speculation earlier this year, now it’s your turn to decode the mystery. If you’re in the mood for a light-hearted spy adventure with plenty of twists and turns that will make your head spin, Argylle is set to make its streaming debut later this month. Although director Matthew Vaughn has plans for sequels, he stated that he wanted to wait and see how the first film fared. Unfortunately for Vaughn, it wouldn’t become a success at the box office, earning just $92 million worldwide on a budget of $200 million. After its low performance, the star-studded action comedy will hope to find a second life as it premieres on AppleTV+ on Friday, April 12.

Do you know the truth behind the identity of Agent Argylle? Matthew Vaughn's action rom-com for Apple starring Bryce Dallas Howard, Henry Cavill, Dua Lipa, Samuel L. Jackson, and Sam Rockwell first debuted in theaters on February 2, 2024, but the film is already going to be available to watch at home just over a month later. Centered around a reclusive, cat-loving author named Elly Conway (Howard), the woman finds herself at the center of an espionage thriller right out of the novels she's written when a real-life spy named Aidan (Rockwell) realizes that her books reflect the actions of an actual spy organization. The film itself has been extremely polarizing, with the majority of critics disliking the picture, although /Film's own Ethan Anderton aligned with the majority of audience reviews on Rotten Tomatoes and liked it quite a bit!

When & Where Is Henry Cavill’s Argylle Coming On Ott ( Photo Credit – IMDb )
Henry Cavill fans, it’s time for you to rejoice as his latest movie, Argylle, is expected to hit the streaming platforms soon. The movie came out in the theatres but did not do as well as expected. Therefore, it might be why the film is coming on the Ott platform so soon. The film has been directed by Matthew Vaughn, and it is a spy thriller with a stellar cast.
Pop sensation Dua Lipa debuted with this Cavill-led movie. The Man of Steel star is a famous face in Hollywood and has a huge fandom, but his professional life has been dwindling a bit – first, he was never hired back to portray Superman’s role in the new DC Universe under James Gunn and Peter Safran and then his exit from the hit Netflix series, The Witcher.

Believe it or not, but it’s been nearly eight years since the release of Gore Verbinski’s last movie — the underrated A Cure for Wellness — but the director finally has a new project in the works. Deadline reports that Verbinski has assembled a fantastic ensemble of actors for his action-adventure movie titled Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die.

Move over, Nick Fury, it’s Mace Windu’s time to shine! At least, that’s what would happen if Samuel L. Jackson had anything to do with it. Jackson first played Mace Windu in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, but unfortunately, the Jedi Master met his end in Revenge of the Sith after his hand was sliced off by Anakin and he was flung out of a window by Palpatine’s Force lightning. However, Jackson is confident that Mace Windu didn’t die and would jump at the chance to return for a series on Disney+.

Jackson had just one thing to say about Mace Windu’s supposed demise: “He’S Not Dead!!!” Aside from a brief voice appearance in The Rise of Skywalker, Mace Windu hasn’t come back from the dead,...

English filmmaker Matthew Vaughn returns to the big screen with another spy action film, Argylle. Known for his distinctive madness and heightened spy reality, as seen in his Kingsman film series, Argylle delivers a perfect blend of action, comedy, and a lot of espionage. Vaughn incorporates little pieces of his life in the movie, with Alfie the Cat being his real-life wife’s (Claudia Schiffer) cat and etching his daughter’s name, Clementine, on a gun in Director Ritter’s office. Argylle follows Elly Conway, a reclusive espionage novel author, who’s suddenly drawn into a similar real-life world of espionage. Conway soon realizes...

No, it’s not Taylor Swift. Instead, the authors of Penguin’s Argylle novel are revealed to be Terry Hayes and Tammy Cohen.
Forming part of a surprisingly elaborate marketing campaign, early January 2024 saw the release of a novel called Argylle, billed as an “explosive spy thriller that inspired the new Matthew Vaughn film”.
Rather than a traditional tie-in – one of those books that essentially takes a screenplay and turns it into page-turning prose – the book was instead a standalone thriller based on the antics of the spy played by Henry Cavill in the film. In a further post-modern twist, the Argylle novel is credited to Elly Conway, the character played in the movie by Bryce Dallas Howard.
This begged the question: if Conway’s a fictional character, who really wrote the novel? Much speculation ensued, including the quite batty theory that Argylle had been written by Taylor Swift – a...

There's something to be said for keeping a movie's marketing simple. Matthew Vaughn's new action-comedy spy thriller "Argylle" opened in theaters this week, after more than two years of Vaughn claiming that the movie was based on an upcoming novel by mysterious first-time author Elly Conway. What little buzz there was around this movie generally revolved around Henry Cavill's flat-top hairstyle, complaints about the cat CGI, and speculation that "Elly Conway" might be Taylor Swift.
Those hooks weren't able to drum up more than $6.5 million on opening day, including Thursday previews, putting "Argylle" on track for a $16.5 million opening weekend (per Deadline). That's the same amount that "The Beekeeper" made with the relatively straightforward pitch of "Jason Statham is a beekeeper who kills people with honey and also with guns."
Determining a break-even point for "Argylle" is tricky. Like Martin Scorsese's "Killers of the Flower Moon" and Ridley Scott's "Napoleon,...

British filmmaker Matthew Vaughn’s helmed a gonzo fantasy with a cross-dressing Robert De Niro, a vigilante superhero flick with a foul-mouthed, killer kid, and a delirious spin on Bond with Colin Firth. But Argylle, his $200 million globe-trotting espionage thriller, has proven to be his most divisive film yet.
The film follows Elly Conway (Bryce Dallas Howard), a novelist/homebody whose series of spy books about Aubrey Argylle (Henry Cavill) have captured the public’s imagination. One day, she encounters an actual superspy, Aidan (Sam Rockwell), on a train who...

This article contains major spoilers for "Argylle," so beware!
"Argylle" is keeping a lot of secrets. While the film's marketing has been squarely focused on teasing the identity of "the real agent Argylle," the movie has even more twists and turns that add new wrinkles to Matthew Vaughn's spy action bonanza (which is now in theaters). While Universal has been keen on keeping the various plot turns under wraps, some of the "Argylle" cast had a difficult time staying quiet about one of the movie's big surprises.
In "Argylle," Bryce Dallas Howard plays Elly Conway, the author behind the successful "Argylle" spy novel series. Suddenly, she finds herself caught up in the real world of spies when dueling secret agent organizations discover that her novels have somehow been accurately predicting what's going to happen in their web of intrigue. Eventually, Elly learns that she's not really author Elly Conway.

The cast of Argylle is absolutely stacked, and all of the talented actors have a blast with the characters they are given.
The new film from Universal Pictures and Apple TV+ follows Elly Conway, an author whose fictional book series centered on a super spy named Agent Argylle is all the rage. Little did she realize that the events in her writing are actually depicting real-life events—which seem to be actively still playing out.
Elly suddenly finds herself on the run with Sam Rockwell’s Aidan as a shadowy organization hunts her down for answers.

"Argylle" arrives in theaters this weekend, and even though critics aren't being overly kind to Matthew Vaughn's latest spy action venture, yours truly had an enjoyable time with the twist-filled story, especially once the hinges are blown off the familiar formula and the "Kingsman" filmmaker really gets to cut loose with a pair of absolutely cuckoo action sequences, the likes of which we've never seen on the big screen before. Initially, I wished the entire movie had that kind of unrestrained madness, but reaching that level of zaniness requires a gradual ascent rather than full-bore throwing you into the insanity from the get-go.
Even if you walked away from "Argylle" frustrated or confused by the movie's many twists and turns, you can't help but admire Vaughn's penchant to take an action movie off the rails. In this case, the third act of...

[Editor’s note: The following article contains spoilers for “Argylle.”]
During the final act of Matthew Vaughn’s spy comedy “Argylle,” most audience members will likely find themselves hyper-focused on just what star Bryce Dallas Howard has slapped on to her feet. That’s probably old hat for Howard, who previously weathered a controversy centered on the footwear her “Jurassic World” character, the prickly and prissy Claire Dearing, sported during some seriously scary dino-centric action (remember those heels?). This time around, however, Howard is outfitted in the kind of apparel that should only make audiences stand up and cheer, rather than sit down and moan in sympathy, “Ah, my aching feet!”
In one of the film’s final action sequences, Howard’s Elly — previously a mild-mannered author who spends her time at home writing wildly popular spy novels — taps into the very kind of action she’s used to only writing (there’s a twist on that we won...

Rumors about “Argylle” have been flying thanks to its unique marketing campaign, but when will it be available to stream from home?
The entire internet seems to be fully absorbed in the question “Who is Ellie Conway?” Conway wrote “Argylle,” the book which has supposedly inspired a movie of the same name which debuts in theaters on Friday, Feb. 2 in the United States. Swifties are convinced that Conway is really a pen name for global superstar Taylor Swift, but the mystery of Ellie Conway’s true identity could be as simple as a clever marketing campaign by the film’s producers.

Argylle isn’t likely to gain the fame and following of other fictional spies like James Bond, Jack Ryan, and Jason Bourne. The slick, charming spy with a weird box haircut is introduced in director Matthew Vaughn’s 2024 action comedy as the creation of reclusive author Elly Conway (Bryce Dallas Howard).
The PG-13 film begins with the titular character (Henry Cavill) trapped in a room with multiple assassins. He quickly uses his skills and a smoke screen to escape and gives chase to a double agent (Dua Lipa) trying to flee the country.
Cut to Conway who’s doing a celebrity author reading to help publicize her latest novel. To her fans, Elly seems to have it all. Her writing’s so descriptive and realistic that fans even...

It takes a very specific kind of brain trust to craft something as uniquely baffling as Argylle. If you’ve been to a multiplex in the last 7 or 8 months, you’ve likely borne witness to its obnoxious trailer. If you haven’t––bless you, sweet lamb. In most cases, a trailer should have absolutely no bearing on the quality of a film. Plenty of great films are marred by bad marketing; others propped-up by the opposite. In this instance, it’s a bit of the latter, but the thing unique to Argylle is that it feels reverse-engineered for a poppy trailer: with candy-coated visuals and enough familiar faces to pass as an attempt at a young, fresh spy blockbuster. Since the nagging, memable question of a “real Agent Argylle” has been forced upon our collective consciousness, it will no doubt usher some of the more morbidly curious into a theater,...

Beware of major spoilers for "Argylle" in the following article.
If you catch "Argylle" in theaters this weekend, you'll be treated to a spy action blockbuster packed with so many twists and turns that you can't help but have a good time. Director Matthew Vaughn delivers some wild action sequences, and Sam Rockwell teamed with Bryce Dallas Howard is a surprisingly fantastic pairing. But when a movie has so many plot twists, there's bound to be some confusion. For example, there's a credits scene that might leave some scratching their head if they haven't been keeping up with the inspiration behind the movie. But besides that, the ending of "Argylle" blatantly sets up a sequel with a reveal that adds a new wrinkle to what is arguably the movie's biggest twist.

Chicago – “Argylle” is a nasty, smelly cinematic hairball coughed up on unsuspecting audiences. It’s a collection of half remembered clichés, atrocious writing, incoherent action, and terrible performances. A flaming dumpster fire of which only the great comic actor Catherine O’Hara emerges largely unscathed.

Elly Conway (Bryce Dallas Howard) is a spy novelist, and not a very good one judging from the prose quoted in her books. However her books had become very popular telling the adventures of a super suave international man of intrigue Agent Argylle. She herself is a homebody whose most constant companion is her cat Alfie, and struggling with a bit of writer’s block about to end her next book.
Before you can blink twice she finds herself involved in some real life cloak and dagger business, when a shadowy international organization makes the first of many attempts on her life. She’s saved...

“Argylle” is looking to slowly ascend the box office charts this weekend.
Matthew Vaughn’s latest film, a star-studded action comedy about a spy novelist, opened with $1.7 million in Thursday previews at the box office.
“Argylle,” which stars an avalanche of A-listers like Henry Cavill, Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Rockwell, Bryan Cranston, Dua Lipa and many more, is expected to make between $15 million and $20 million in its opening weekend. It’ll beat “Mean Girls,” the musical adaptation of Tina Fey’s classic comedy, which has been ruling over the box office for the past three weeks in a quiet January.
Universal is distributing the globe-trotting spy film, and Apple produced and financed it for $200 million. For any other company, “Argylle’s” projected opening would be disastrous, but Apple’s $3 trillion market cap means it won’t be as negatively affected by a poor box office showing. Just like Martin Scorsese...

This article contains full spoilers for Argylle.
Early in the Matthew Vaughn spy thriller/comedy Argylle, actual secret agent Aiden (Sam Rockwell) needs to calm writer of secret agents Elly Conway (Bryce Dallas Howard). Aiden leans in and calmly tells a story about a mission that required him to scale a tremendous height. Rather than look down, Aiden explains, you just have to look at what’s ahead. “What’s right in front of you, Elly?” he asks, staring directly at the camera.
Argylle might not have the same bratty sense of humor that marked Kick-Ass or Kingsman: The Secret Service, but audiences might feel that Vaughn is trolling them in that scene. For months now, trailers for Argylle have teased an amazing twist, suggesting that the real Agent Argylle is something special, something they are not going to want to miss.
But you would have to be really inattentive to miss the reveal.

Spoilers for "Argylle" follow.
"Argylle" arrives in theaters this weekend (read our review here), delivering another action-packed spy movie from "Kingsman" franchise director Matthew Vaughn. Leading up to the film's release, there has already been some confusion surrounding the movie because of the source material that is said to have inspired the story.
You see, there's a novel on shelves also called "Argylle," released earlier this month, and it's written by author Elly Conway (not Taylor Swift). However, that also happens to be the name of the main character played by Bryce Dallas Howard in the movie "Argylle," where she's a spy novelist who ends up getting caught up in real-life intrigue and danger that mirrors the stories in her books. But when you seek out the details on the book in question, you'll see that the plot of the "Argylle" novel isn't the plot of the movie "Argylle." Here's...

L to R: Henry Cavill, Dua Lipa, and John Cena in Argylle, directed by Matthew Vaughn
It feels as though there are one, or two, films that want to “push” against the standard movie-releasing rules as January slowly (with those recent temps it feels like crawling) gives way to February. The big splashy noisy action blockbusters are supposed to be waiting in the wings for the warmer times, but since this is from “Marv maverick” Matthew Vaughn, of course it’s not going to adhere to anyone’s rules. The guiding force behind the Kingsman and King’S Man franchises (and a pivotal entry in the X_MEN multiverse) attempts to get another series going by mixing in a bit more comedy and even a touch of romance and fantasy as he hopes we will be swept up in the world of Argylle.
And just what does the title mean?...

With Matthew Vaughn’s comedy spy thriller finally out, we pay our respects to one of the most enthusiastic, ubiquitous marketing campaigns we’ve ever seen.
Reviews are in for Argylle, the latest action-comedy-thriller caper from director Matthew Vaughn, and we’ll politely describe them as mixed.
Whatever your reaction is to the confectionery that Vaughn and his collaborators have served up in cinemas this week, though – we didn’t mind it, to be fair – the wrapper it came in is pretty remarkable.
In the weeks leading up to Argylle’s release, the film has been almost inescapable. I keep bumping (figuratively speaking) into the trailer as it flashes up ahead of YouTube videos; I’ve seen London buses with a massive cat peering out of the back; posters featuring that distinctive diamond-shaped pattern have been dotted about all over the place.
In terms of eye-catching design, Argylle’s advertising...

This article contains massive spoilers for "Argylle."
In June of 1970, writer Richard Matheson published the short story "Button, Button." It would inspire a radically unique cinematic adaptation as well as several other official and unofficial retellings. One of its central themes is identity. The characters discover, to their horror, that they don't know themselves, let alone those around them.
That theme is a tenet of the spy genre, and it's no surprise why the genre continues to enjoy such rampant popularity despite the Cold War (arguably the most prolific period for espionage) three decades removed. It has become nearly inextricable from the action genre (thanks in large part to James Bond), and also directly addresses the blurring of reality and fiction where cinema excels. After all, what is spycraft but another form of acting? Furthermore, if someone is called upon to pretend to be someone else for a living, it...

Henry Cavill's Argylle is a movie heavy on twists, so don't be surprised if a little explanation is needed to help the film make more sense.
The movie follows Bryce Dallas Howard’s Elly Conway, an author known for the highly successful book series following the fictional agent Argylle (portrayed by Cavill). It turns out, however, that the events in her stories are hitting a little too close to reality.
The question then becomes: how on Earth is she predicting all of these details so accurately?

First up, there’s the new Matthew Vaughn spy action-comedy “Argylle,” based on a recently released book by one Elly Conway, presumed to be a pseudonym for another famous author, who sold the rights to Vaughn to make this movie even before the book’s release just a few weeks back.

Bryce Dallas Howard, Orlando Bloom and Sean Bean will star in Prime Video’s new film Deep Cover. More on that below.
Prime Video has today announced their new film, Deep Cover, starring Bryce Dallas Howard, Orlando Bloom, Sean Bean, Nick Mohammed, Ian McShane, Paddy Considine and Sonoya Mizuno.
The Prime original film (not to be confused with Bill Duke’s 1992 neo-noir of the same name) will begin production in the UK on Monday, 5th February. Derek Connolly and Colin Trevorrow have worked on the original script, with British improv duo Ben Ashenden and Alexander Owen setting the script in London.
The film will follow “three improv actors hired by the police to help stage low-level stings. Their instinct to ‘always say yes’ without breaking character leads them deep inside the London criminal underworld.”
Trevorrow will also be producing the film under Metronome Film Co. and Tom Kingsley will be directing.

It’s no secret that the Marvel Cinematic Universe is struggling, both creatively and at the box office. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and The Marvels proved to be disappointments last year, with the latter standing as the lowest-grossing film in the entire MCU, but Deadpool 3 may just be able to save them.
While speaking with BroBible’s Post Credit Podcast, Matthew Vaughn said that Deadpool 3 will provide a much-needed jolt to the MCU. “The few snippets that I know about Deadpool vs. Wolverine — or Wolverine vs. Deadpool, I’m sure that argument between Ryan and Hugh is happening as we speak — are unbelievable,” Vaughn said. “That’s going to be the jolt… the Marvel universe is about to have a jolt of them and it’s going to bring that body back to life… I think Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman are about to save the whole Marvel universe.

James Gunn is launching the new DC Universe with a brand-new Superman (not to mention a new Supergirl), which puts the final nail in the coffin of Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel… or does it? Fans are eager to find a way for Henry Cavill to return to the role and Argylle director Matthew Vaughn wonders if Superman: Red Son might be the perfect opportunity.
While speaking on BroBible’s Post Credit Podcast, Matthew Vaughn praised Superman: Red Son, the Elseworlds mini-series written by Mark Millar. “I thought Red Son was one of the cleverest comics I’d ever read, and the current world we’re living in, it’s certainly become a lot more relevant because ignorance causes more issues, and I think the more we learn about Russia and the Russian history,” Vaughn said, before wondering what it would be like if Henry Cavill reprised his role for the project.

“Bs!” exclaims Bryce Dallas Howard’s spy novelist Elly Conway when she learns the real identity of the titular secret agent in “Argylle.” For once in the film, her character’s savant-like gift for understanding exactly what the audience should feel tracks. Here, that’s disbelief tinged with disappointment.

The ubiquitous marketing of “Argylle” billed the film as “from the twisted mind of Matthew Vaughn,” a moniker that only works insofar as it makes any sense of edginess easy to see coming.

Sam Rockwell probably isn’t anyone’s idea of a suave secret agent, but that seems to be just the point for director Matthew Vaughn. He cast the Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri Oscar winner against type and let him rip with a witty, eminently watchable performance that lets him steal every scene he is in.
If only the movie, Argylle, were a star vehicle for him in the same way that, say, Hitchcock’s North by Northwest was for Cary Grant in its day, this pseudo spy thriller might have been a classic. But unfortunately too much of it, especially the final half hour of this two-hour-plus frenetic action picture, just throws it all against the wall to see what sticks. It will have your head spinning trying to keep up with a far-too-busy set of characters playing mind games with us in a twisted scenario that spins out...
