Sunny Day Real Estate just announced a 30th anniversary tour for their seminal debut album Diary, and the emo heroes are keeping up the excitement with the release of “Novum Vetus,” their first new song in 10 years.
Though “Novum Vetus” is “new,” its origins go way back to just after the Diary era, having first been conceived of while Sunny Day Real Estate were recording 1998’s How It Feels to Be Something On. Original members Jeremy Enigk, Dan Hoerner, and William Goldsmith decided to bring the song into Seattle’s renowned London Bridge Studio, fleshing it out into a seven-minute epic with Greg Suran and Chris Jordan.
While in the studio, Sunny Day Real Estate also laid down a live, track-by-track re-recording of Diary, which is out May 3rd. Pre-orders are now ongoing. For now, stream “Novum Vetus” below.

Melbourne, Sep 3 (Ians) Rashid Khan, Harry Brook, Quinton De Kock and Tom Curran headline a list of 21 overseas players selected in the second edition of the Bbl overseas draft. Sunday’s draft saw 374 players from 29 countries put their names forward for selection in eight squads ahead of Bbl season 13.
Round one was full of excitement and key retention picks, with seven Clubs selecting Platinum players. Melbourne Stars attempted to use their first pick to recruit Rashid, the world’s best T20 bowler, from the Adelaide Strikers, before he was retained for a seventh straight season by the club in blue.
“I wouldn’t have been allowed back into South Australia (if we didn’t pick Rashid). It was a no-brainer for us. For any team, if Rash is available you would look to pick him… he is the best spinner in the world,” said Jason Gillespie, Strikers’ head coach, on buying back Rashid.

Lucknow, May 17 (Ians) After suffering a five-run defeat to Lucknow Super Giants, Mumbai Indians bowling coach Shane Bond criticised the bowling attack for not sticking to the already discussed plans.
Mumbai’s death bowling woes resurfaced on Tuesday when they conceded a whopping 54 runs in the last three overs as Lucknow posted 177/3, with Marcus Stoinis playing a knock to remember for ages on a tough pitch through 89 not out off 47 balls.
“For me, the most frustrating thing is about not sticking to the plans that we talk about. We were very clear with what we wanted to do on this wicket to players like Marcus and where we wanted to bowl, we didn’t bowl there consistently enough.”
“When you’re looking at a team plan, you’ve got to get the batsmen to hit in areas where you want them to hit. Make it as hard as possible for them.

Batting first, Lsh had a torrid start as Chris Jordan almost got Deepak Hooda to mistime his shot and the ball went high up in the air. Tim David ran behind towards deep extra cover...

“We will bowl first. Looks like a good wicket, dew could have an effect, so chasing could be ideal. We realise the importance of every game, just need to stick to our plans and play good cricket.
It’s important to learn the lessons from your losses, rectify and don’t repeat it. You do make mistakes in such a long tournament. God has been kind with our injuries. Same team as the last game,” Gt skipper Hardik Pandya said at the toss.
Mi captain Rohit Sharma said: “We would have done the same thing(bowl) , we need to bat and bowl really well. Things are coming along nicely in the last few games. We understand where we stand at the moment,...

Melbourne, Nov 14 (Ians) Two-time T20 World Cup winning skipper Darren Sammy on Monday said players who had the experience of playing in T20 leagues around the world were the ones who shone in the recently-concluded T20 World Cup in Australia.

Dawid Malan terms England's central contracts 'slightly strange' after being handed incremental deal
Canberra, Oct 13 (Ians) England top-order batter Dawid Malan has termed England’s recent central contracts list as “slightly strange” after he was handed an incremental deal due to a large focus on Test cricket.
On Tuesday, Malan lost his full contract after being left out of the Test side since the 4-0 Ashes defeat in Australia. But the left-hander remains a pivotal part of the T20I side, as seen from his knock of 82 from 49 balls against Australia to give England a series win in Canberra on Wednesday.
“There’s a slightly strange system with the contracts. It seems heavily led toward red-ball cricket. Hopefully, white-ball cricket can get recognised as Test match cricket does. We’d like to be rewarded for our performances for England, that’s what contracts are for, and if you’re ranked top-five in the world for three years, you’d hope you get recognised...

Karachi, Sep 20 (Ians) England stand-in skipper for the seven-match T20I series against Pakistan Moeen Ali has indicated his side will not put pressure on itself thinking about the upcoming World Cup, saying the side will focus on one game at a time in the global event.

“It is important we don’t put pressure on ourselves and say we are going to win a World Cup. We have been such a good side over the last two or three years but we have missed out too sometimes which is about weight of expectation,” Moeen was quoted as saying by Daily Mail.

London, Sep 2 (Ians) The England and Wales Cricket Board (Ecb) have included Phil Salt in their squad for the Icc T20 World Cup in Australia later this year with Jason Roy missing from the 15-member group following an unimpressive run for the national side and in The Hundred.
The prolonged lean run of Roy, which has seen him score just 206 runs at 18.72 in the 11 T20Is he’s played since the previous edition of the Icc T20 World Cup in the UAE last year, is being attributed as the reason for Salt’s inclusion. Salt had made his T20I debut earlier this year.
Salt has been rewarded for his strong domestic form in the ongoing The Hundred tournament, where he is among the top run-getters. He is at No.2 with 313 runs in eight games, averaging 44.71.
Charismatic top-order batter Jos Buttler will lead the side in his first World Cup as captain,...

Seven clubs selected Platinum players in round one, with Livingstone, the hard-hitting England batting all-rounder, named the competition’s inaugural number one Draft selection by the Melbourne Renegades.
Melbourne Stars attempted to pluck Rashid from under the noses of Adelaide Strikers with pick two before the Afghanistan leg-spin all-rounder was retained for a sixth straight season by the people in the blue jersey.
Boult, the New Zealand left-arm pacer, then became pick three for the Stars, before the English trio of Sam Billings (Brisbane Heat), Chris Jordan (Sydney Sixers), David Willey (Sydney Thunder) and...

London, Aug 14 (Ians) England left-arm pacer Tymal Mills is set to miss the remainder of The Hundred men’s competition due to toe injury. Mills had taken the field for his side Southern Brave during The Hundred 2022 on Wednesday night after giving himself time to heal from toe injury.
But a report in ESPNCricinfo says that his toe flared up yet again after Wednesday’s match and he didn’t play in Southern Brave’s next match. “He had surgery on Friday morning, which will be followed by another procedure on Wednesday, ruling him out of the rest of the tournament,” said the report.
The report further said that Mills is aiming to be fit in time to tour Pakistan in September, where England play seven T20I matches before flying to Australia for three T20Is and subsequently, the Men’s T20 World Cup to be held from October...
