Months after the conclusion of the court case, the judge overseeing Johnny Depp’s lawsuit against a British newspaper that claimed the actor was abusive toward ex-wife Amber Heard decided in favor of the publisher of The Sun, putting an end to a headline-dominating legal battle that cast a public light on a dysfunctional marriage once obfuscated by non-disclosure agreements.

Despite being a libel case, Depp v News Group Newspapers Ltd & Another felt more like a criminal trial at the Old Bailey, or a domestic violence hearing in the family courts.
Both Sasha Wass QC, for Ngn, and Eleanor Laws QC, for Depp, who carried out the respective cross-examinations of the actors and former spouses Johnny Depp and Amber Heard were, for example, drafted in because of their expertise in the criminal courts.

Johnny Depp did not appear at London’s Royal Courts of Justice on Monday, as his libel case against Rupert Murdoch’s U.K. tabloid The Sun and executive editor Dan Wootton entered its penultimate day of hearings. His ex-wife, “Aquaman” actress Amber Heard, was present and in good spirits.
Delivering the defense’s final submission, The Sun attorney Sasha Wass described the “Pirates of the Caribbean” actor as “a hopeless addict who repeatedly lost his self-control and all ability to restrain his anger.”
Depp is suing News Group Newspapers and Wootton for an article on The Sun’s website that described him as a “wife beater.” Depp denies that he was ever violent toward Heard, to whom he was married from 2015 to 2017.
Wass said allegations of violence by Heard against Depp during one night in December 2015 is backed by a “wealth of evidence.”

(Press Association) Johnny Depp’s memory of his “disgraceful conduct” towards Amber Heard is “so severely impaired by drug use” that he may not have been aware of the extent of his “violence and terrifying behaviour,” the High Court has heard.
Lawyers for The Sun newspaper said there is a “wealth of evidence” to support Heard’s allegations of domestic violence by Depp, which paints a picture of the actor as “a hopeless addict who repeatedly lost his self-control and all ability to restrain his anger.”
Depp, 57, is suing the tabloid’s publisher, News Group Newspapers (Ngn) and its executive editor, Dan Wootton, over a 2018 article which labelled him a “wife beater”. The Pirates Of The Caribbean actor denies the allegations of violence made against him by Heard, 34.
On Monday, the case – the biggest English libel trial of the 21st century – entered its closing stages as Ngn’s legal team began making closing submissions.

Johnny Depp’s legal team played a video in court Friday that they allege demonstrates that Amber Heard had been violent toward her sister, Whitney Henriquez. The footage was submitted at London’s Royal Courts of Justice as evidence on the 14th day of Depp’s libel action against the publisher of The Sun newspaper.
Depp is suing News Group Newspapers and journalist Dan Wootton for an article on The Sun’s website that described him as a “wife beater.” Depp denies that he was ever violent toward Heard, to whom he was married from 2015 to 2017.
The tape, played for the first time in court Friday, is believed to have been taken from a reality TV show recording from 2006 or 2007. The recording was handed to Depp’s team by an anonymous source overnight, and they believe it came from an unbroadcast segment of the show.

(Press Association) Johnny Depp’s lawyers have been provided with a video from “an anonymous source” which they say shows Amber Heard “attacked” her sister, the High Court has heard.
On Friday morning, the Pirates Of The Caribbean star’s barrister David Sherborne said they had received a video from a “confidential source” on Thursday night, after Whitney Henriquez gave evidence earlier in the day that her sister had never attacked her.
The claim was made at the outset of the 14th day of Mr Depp’s libel claim against The Sun over allegations he was violent to his ex-wife. On Thursday, Henriquez denied Heard had ever hit her, or that she was “frightened” of her sister.
She also gave evidence she saw Depp punch Heard “really hard in the head … multiple times” in Los Angeles in March 2015 in the so-called “stairs incident.”

(Press Association) Johnny Depp is a “remarkable man” when he is “clean and sober” but the “other side of him was a monster,” Amber Heard has told the High Court.
In her fourth day in the witness box in her ex-husband’s libel case against The Sun newspaper, the Aquaman actress said she had been “so in love” with Depp and had “always held out hope” that he would get clean.
The court has heard that in a series of text messages to her mother Paige in March 2013, Heard, 34, described Depp, 57, as “violent and crazy” and said: “I’m heartbroken that this is who I love.”

Amber Heard came to the witness stand during Johnny Depp’s lawsuit against The Sun today and alleged that the actor made her fear for her life.
The Pirates of the Caribbean star and Ngn, representative of The Sun, went to UK court last week, rekindling the flame of controversy about the couple’s short-lived marriage yet again. The defendants, led by Sasha Wass QC, accused Depp of mistreating his wife and abusing drugs and alcohol, while Depp’s attorneys and people who were close to them when they were together brought up several instances where Heard was evidently the one who abused her husband.
The actress herself, meanwhile, provided a written statement in court before appearing on Monday to testify, in which she alleges that her then-husband was extremely controlling and intimidating.

Artist Isaac Baruch, a childhood friend of Johnny Depp’s, told a London court Friday about the day he allegedly found Amber Heard changing the locks to the Los Angeles penthouse she shared with the actor.

During Johnny Depp’s lawsuit against The Sun, Amber Heard‘s ex-assistant Kate James alleged that the actress broke the law on more than one occasion. Now, James has revealed another shocking truth about her former client.
The ongoing trial between the Pirates of the Caribbean star and News Group Newspapers, the company representing The Sun as its owner, has been nothing short of controversial over the past week, giving insight into many previously unknown facets of the former couple’s short-lived marriage and dysfunctional relationship. The defendants, led by Sasha Wass QC, have thus far accused Depp of physically abusing his then-wife and even emotionally mistreating her, but with all the evidence mounting up against the Aquaman actress, it’s safe to say that the American thespian has a solid case.

Johnny Depp has claimed in court that Amber Heard essentially ended their marriage after the Aquaman actress or one of her friends defecated in their bed.
The Pirates of the Caribbean star kicked off his libel case against The Sun earlier this week in UK court. While News Group Newspapers’ attorneys, representing the publication, grilled Depp over several instances where he allegedly got physical with his former partner, the actor also fired back with evidence of his own, like the time Heard defecated on their bed to take revenge because Depp missed her birthday.
Apparently, the day had started with the Fantastic Beasts actor meeting with his accountant and hearing “some rather unfortunate news” about his financial state. As a result, he arrived two hours late to Heard’s birthday party at the Eastern Columbia Building. When they returned home, the actor went to bed and started reading a book before going to sleep.

Ngn relies on 14 alleged incidents of domestic violence towards Heard, which Depp denies, in their defense against the actor’s libel claim. On Friday, Depp, 57, was questioned about Heard’s 30th birthday...

Johnny Depp used the blood from the severed tip of his finger to paint messages on a mirror, a court heard Thursday, the third day of his libel trial against the publisher of The Sun newspaper in London.
Depp is suing Rupert Murdoch’s News Group Newspapers and journalist Dan Wootton for an article on The Sun website on April 27, 2018 that described him as a “wife beater.” Depp denies that he was violent toward his former wife Amber Heard, to whom he was married from 2015 to 2017.
Giving evidence at London’s Royal Courts of Justice, Depp said he could see “bone sticking out” after Heard allegedly threw a bottle at him, cutting off the tip of his finger. Heard denies injuring his finger.
“The damage to your finger was very serious, wasn’t it? And very painful?” Sasha Wass, The Sun’s attorney, asked. Depp agreed. Wass asked why he...

(Press Association) Johnny Depp has accused Amber Heard of telling “porky pies” about him to a psychiatrist, during a third day of intense questioning over his drug use and relationship with his ex-wife as his libel claim against The Sun newspaper continues.
The Hollywood star suggested there was a “benefit to her (Ms Heard’s) motivation” to tell the medical professional that he was “threatened” by her career and that a film she made with actor James Franco led to a “binge” that put him in hospital.
The High Court has also heard details of medical notes written by Depp’s private doctor which said the actor “romanticises the entire drug culture and has no accountability for his behaviour”.
The actor was cross-examined about a detox trip the couple took to the Bahamas in August 2014, during which Heard says he attacked her, which he denies.

Giving evidence on the second day of a libel trial at the Royal Courts of Justice in London, Johnny Depp denied slapping his former wife Amber Heard when she laughed at one of his tattoos.
Depp, who is suing the publisher of The Sun newspaper for describing him as a “wife beater,” was being cross-examined Wednesday by defense attorney Sasha Wass.
Depp had a tattoo that had originally read “Winona Forever,” in honor of his ex-girlfriend actress Winona Ryder. When they split up in 1993, he changed it to read “Wino Forever.” In March 2013, when Depp began to drink heavily again after about 160 days of sobriety, Heard made a joke out of the tattoo, Wass said.
“I don’t recall any conversation,” Depp responded.
Wass alleged the actor then slapped Heard across the face. She added: “You slapped her more than once, because after you slapped her the first time, she didn’t react.

An email written by Amber Heard intended for Johnny Depp, detailing his alleged “Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde” persona during their relationship, has been read out in court during The Pirates Of The Caribbean actor’s explosive libel battle with British newspaper The Sun.
Heard penned the email in June 2013 but never sent it to her former husband. What a f****** man you are,” she wrote in the email, the full text of which is below.
The message was read out during the High Court hearing by The Sun’s attorney Sasha Wass, as the tabloid attempts to defend its description of Depp as a “wife-beater” in an article written by executive editor, Dan Wootton, in April 2018. Depp, who has spent...

Amber Heard and Johnny Depp butted heads in court during the latter’s libel case against The Sun. When it was time for the Pirates of the Caribbean star to give evidence, he was asked about the incident where he allegedly slapped his wife three times for mocking his tattoo of Winona Ryder, which he resolutely denied.
Depp’s defamation lawsuit against his former wife has sparked a lot of controversy over the past couple of months, especially after his attorneys presented evidence that exposed the Aquaman actress as the one who emotionally and physically abused him in their short-lived marriage. Now, the American thespian is defending his case in court against The Sun. On the second day of the case, Sasha Wass QC asked Depp about the incident in March 2013 which involved the actor’s tattoo of Winona Ryder and Heard mocking him because of it.

(Press Association) Johnny Depp has denied slapping his ex-wife Amber Heard after she laughed at his “Wino Forever” tattoo, as he faced further questioning on the second day of high-profile libel action against The Sun newspaper.
The Hollywood actor rejected suggestions he slapped Heard three times during a time when he had “fallen off the wagon” after she made a joke of the etching on his arm – saying “that is not true, you are mistaken.” The 57-year-old was asked about the alleged incident as he re-entered the witness box to give evidence in his claim.
Depp is suing the tabloid’s publisher, News Group Newspapers (Ngn), and its executive editor, Dan Wootton, over the 2018 article, which labelled him a “wife-beater” and referred to “overwhelming evidence” that he attacked Heard, 34, during their relationship – which he strenuously denies.

Johnny Depp and ex-wife Amber Heard, both masked, arrived at the Royal Courts of Justice in London on Tuesday for the explosive start of a libel trial.
Depp is suing the publisher of The Sun, News Group Newspapers, and the paper’s executive editor, Dan Wootton, for describing him as a “wife-beater,” based on allegations Heard had made.
Depp “is not and never has been a wife beater,” his attorney David Sherborne said in an opening statement. He added that Depp alleged it was “Heard who was the one who started physical fights, who punched or hit him […] she was the abuser, not him.”
In the witness box, with Heard seated in the public gallery, Depp told the court that she had “said to the world that she was in fear of her life from me, and I had been this horrible monster, if you will. Which was not the case.

(Press Association) Johnny Depp “is not and never has been a wife beater” and his libel action against The Sun newspaper is “not a case about money” but about “vindication,” his lawyers have told the High Court.
In a written opening note at the start of the three-week trial in London, the actor’s lead counsel, David Sherborne, said the Hollywood star has come to court “to clear his reputation”.
He also argued that Depp’s ex-wife, actress Amber Heard, has “invented these stories of serious violence” and that she was the “abuser” in the relationship.
Depp, 57, is suing the tabloid’s publisher, News Group Newspapers, and executive editor, Dan Wootton, over an article which called him a “wife-beater.” The article related to allegations made against Depp by Heard, 34, that he was violent towards her during their marriage – claims he strenuously denies.
