WrestleMania 40’s night one in Philadelphia was a spectacle of high-octane wrestling that lived up to the grandeur expected of such a storied event. The evening was headlined by a tag team match featuring Roman Reigns and The Rock against Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins, which delivered an electrifying performance, setting a dramatic tone for the rest Wrestlemania weekend! The stakes were incredibly high, with the outcome influencing the main event of night two, adding a layer of strategic depth to the match. Roman Reigns and The Rock took the win and if Cody Rhodes is going to “finish the story” he will be playing now by the Bloodline’s rules for night two!

The Bloodline’s presence was felt throughout the night, particularly in the emotionally charged match between estranged twin brothers Jey Uso and Jimmy Uso, which showcased a personal family drama unfolding in the ring.

Welcome to this review of this past Friday’s episode of Friday Night Smackdown, right here on Nerdly. Let’s see what went down on the show!
Match #1: Dominik Mysterio & Rhea Ripley def. Santos Escobar & Zelina Vega The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
When order broke down in the Mixed Tag Team Match and Santos Escobar was taken out of action, Zelina Vega knocked Dominik Mysterio out of the squared circle. Unfortunately, she made the mistake of turning her back on Rhea Ripley, who hit her opponent with Riptide for the victory. After the bell, Dominik began to once more trash talk his dad. In response, Rey Mysterio interrupted Dominik with some emotional words as he made it clear he will never fight his son at WrestleMania or anywhere else.
My Score: 2 out of 5 Match #2: Liv Morgan & Raquel Rodriguez def. Tegan Nox & Emma The following is courtesy of wwe.

When Cuban-Spanish actor Ana de Armas was asked to play Marilyn Monroe in Andrew Dominik’s Netflix feature “Blonde,” she spent months preparing and studying for the role. “It was very important to discover the real woman and bring all of those elements together,” she said Saturday at the San Sebastian Film Festival.
“My idea of Marilyn in the past was quite elementary,” she said at a press conference. “I knew her films and little more. To get to know her story was fascinating for me. She represented the dream that we all want to be. So what could go so wrong? I now respect her much more, and understand her better and could humanize her much more, and give her more credit for the effort she put into things.”

Blonde Director Andrew Dominik Kept Ana De Armas From Showing One Specific Emotion As Marilyn Monroe
How did Ana de Armas manage to channel Hollywood's most iconic starlet in "Blonde," Netflix's new movie about Ana de Armas? The actress is known for her roles in a variety of films, from the murder mystery "Knives Out," where she plays characters with a knack for concealment, to a recent Bond girl in "No Time to Die." But Marilyn Monroe may have been her biggest challenge yet. "Blonde" director Andrew Dominik told de Armas to keep one huge feeling totally under wraps for the entirety of the film. This direction guided the actress' performance and informed her understanding of Monroe.
Ana de Armas channeled her own anxiety about living up to the character into her performance. She was scared that people wouldn't accept her portrayal of such a beloved historical figure. "Using my emotions — how I felt about playing the role — was the way I approached the entire film,...

Andrew Dominik‘s “Blonde” is one of the Fall’s biggest movies for several reasons. For one, it’s Dominik’s first feature film since 2012’s “Killing Them Softly.” “Blonde” is also a project long in the making, taking fourteen years of development to reach audiences finally. It’s also a huge role for Ana de Armas as Marilyn Monroe, one of the most famous movie stars ever.

Andrew Dominik had to convince MGM to let “Some Like It Hot” be part of “Blonde.”
Much like Quentin Tarantino’s 2019 Oscar-winning “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” Dominik’s “Blonde” includes real footage from Marilyn Monroe’s filmography. Yet lead star Ana de Armas is placed in the films, including “All About Eve,” “Some Like It Hot,” “Don’t Bother to Knock,” and “Niagara.” The iconic “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend” scene from “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes” is also recreated by de Armas. “Blonde” is now in theaters and premieres September 28 on Netflix.
Writer/director Dominik revealed that it was difficult to get permission to use snippets from Monroe’s films, especially the MGM-owned classics.
“The hardest things to get were permissions. So, I put ‘Ana in All About Eve,’ for example, and in ‘Some Like It Hot,’ and we use a bunch of Fox movies,” Dominik told Deadline.

Andrew Dominik’s “Blonde” has already been attached to a few bombshells — and that’s not even counting its subject, Marilyn Monroe.
Ana de Armas is set to play the “Some Like It Hot” star in the adaptation of Joyce Carol Oates’ 2000 book. The film stirred controversy surrounding de Armas’ casting as the iconic actress, as well as the material of Oates’ fictionalized telling of Monroe’s journey through a series of abusive relationships.
De Armas was announced to play Norma Jeane (Monroe’s real first name purposefully misspelled by Oates with an extra “e” at the end of Jean) in 2019, with the film originally set for a 2021 release. The Netflix film has since been pushed to September 28, 2022 release.

Few movie dramas in recent years have generated as much fevered online speculation as Andrew Dominik’s Marilyn Monroe movie Blonde.
Fourteen years in the making, Blonde uses Joyce Carol Oates’ novel of the same name as a starting point to chart a fictionalized chronicle of Monroe’s inner life.
After a number of false dawns and reincarnations, the movie finally got underway in August 2019 with fast-rising Cuban native Ana De Armas in the lead role, financial backing from Netflix and Plan B Entertainment as main producer. The film wouldn’t emerge, however, until more than three years later, finally getting its launch at the Venice Film Festival and its general release this month.

Blonde, the new Netflix film from Andrew Dominik, adds as much nuance to the idea of Marilyn Monroe as can be gleaned from a gynaecological exam. The bombshell movie star has long been established as a tragic figure, a woman who was abused by Hollywood studios, her husband Joe Dimaggio and, as a child, her unwell mother. Rather than challenge the conventional narrative, director Dominik’s nightmarish film, adapted from Joyce Carol Oates’s fictionalised 2000 novel, takes it somewhere even darker and even more invasive. If you want to understand Marilyn Monroe, it suggests, first you have to get inside her uterus.
This grim drama takes us into the previously unexplored depths of Marilyn Monroe’s vagina several times across its astonishing 2-hour-45-minute runtime. I won’t “spoil” them all, but in the film’s first hour, we watch Monroe, played with distressing frailty by Ana de Armas, excitedly...

According to Ana de Armas, “Blonde” transcends language thanks to the film’s intensely emotive performances.
Lead star de Armas, who portrays Marilyn Monroe in Andrew Dominik’s portrait of the screen icon, revealed in a Variety cover story that her Cuban mother, Ana Caso, saw an unsubtitled version of “Blonde” and “understood everything” despite not speaking English. “There was nothing I needed to explain to her,” de Armas said. “If she can understand that with no subtitles, then we hit the spot.”
De Armas’ own accent received backlash after the first trailer for the film was released. The Cuban-born star trained for nine months with a dialect coach to perfect Monroe’s signature breathy voice. “It was a big torture, so exhausting,” de Armas said at the time. “My brain was fried.” She previously called her casting “groundbreaking” as a “Cuban playing Marilyn Monroe” and said she was “terrified” to take on the role.

When it first came out that Andrew Dominik's adaptation of the Joyce Carol Oates novel "Blonde" would be rated Nc-17, it made many eyebrows raise. That is a rating rarely given by the Motion Picture Association (née of America), and when it is given, filmmakers most often succumb to the will of the organization and cut out the "questionable" moments so they can attain an R rating. But in this case, Dominik and Netflix held firm, and "Blonde" got the Nc-17. Why is rated that? The official description is for "Some Sexual Content," which is a nice way of saying that there is going to be quite a bit of fairly explicit nudity and sex.
"Blonde" is a somewhat fictionalized account of the life of Marilyn Monroe, someone objectified and taken advantage of by the global public since people first saw her image. To tell that story as honestly as possible,...

Director Andrew Dominik has a new film headed to select theaters, "Blonde," which will walk down the red carpet to Netflix a week from today to become the first Nc-17 streaming film ever released. "Blonde" has earned praise for its central Ana de Armas performance, but it's already proving as divisive as Dominik's last non-documentary film, "Killing Them Softly," starring Brad Pitt.
That movie came out ten years ago, while Dominik's filmography dates back even further to 2000 when he made his directorial debut with the Eric Bana-led "Chopper." There was a seven-year gap separating "Chopper" from Dominik's next effort, but his sophomore film was well worth the wait, and it happens to be commemorating its 15th anniversary today.
"Blonde" deals with celebrity and revisionist history — two narrative forces at work in "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford," which remains not only Dominik's best film...

Just like Marilyn Monroe, Ana de Armas knows she cannot control what America does with her body.
De Armas stars as the late bombshell in Andrew Dominik’s “Blonde,” an Nc-17 portrait of the iconic film star. De Armas bares all for the film, emotionally and physically, spending long sequences topless and, at one point, fully nude.
“I did things in this movie I would have never done for anyone else, ever,” de Armas told Variety. “I did it for her, and I did it for Andrew.”
While de Armas previously said she was baffled by the Nc-17 rating for the Netflix film, streaming September 28, the “No Time to Die” alum can anticipate which sequences will “go viral” because of her nudity, much like in her 2015 feature “Knock Knock” opposite Keanu Reeves.
“I know what’s going to go viral, and it’s disgusting,” de Armas explained. “It’s upsetting just to think about it.

A few years back, Ana de Armas needed to convince Netflix that she could be Marilyn Monroe.
She was already the first choice of director Andrew Dominik, whose film “Blonde,” a surrealist vision of the life and death of the screen legend, had been reportedly cast with various leading ladies before alighting on de Armas, but “Knives Out” — the hit film in which the previously little-known performer sat at the center of the mystery — hadn’t yet come out. In 2019, few knew her name.
De Armas brought her accent coach to the in-person screen test with Netflix. “I hadn’t had the training and the voice and everything,” says de Armas, who was born and raised in Cuba. “So my coach was crouching on the floor, under the table.” The stakes were high. “I just knew that everything we did that day was going to be the definitive test of...

Ana de Armas felt Marilyn Monroe’s presence while filming “Blonde.”
The actress, who portrays the “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes” icon in Andrew Dominik’s Nc-17 portrait for Netflix, revealed that she visited Monroe’s grave to ask for “permission” to play her onscreen.

Plot: An impressionistic depiction of the life of Marilyn Monroe (Ana de Armas), from her early days as Norma Jeane Mortenson to her eventual crowning as perhaps the biggest sex symbol of the 20th century.
Review: Andrew Dominik’s Blonde is a movie to wrestle with. It’s a work of art whose craft cannot be diminished, but it’s also an incredibly tough watch, ranking as one of the most intense, upsetting films in recent years. While the Nc-17 rating is ridiculous, it’s still not for the faint of heart, shining a light on the lurid side of celebrity and the psychological and physical cost of being a sex goddess.
One thing Blonde is not is a fact-based account of Marilyn Monroe’s life. Like the book by Joyce Carol Oates that it’s based on, the movie is an impressionistic fictionalization of Monroe’s life. Some of the more provocative moments,...

Match #1: United States Championship Match – Bobby Lashley def. Seth “Freakin” Rollins The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
Bobby Lashley has been defending the United States Championship in stellar matches for nearly two months, and this one was no different. Early in the match, Seth “Freakin” Rollins went for the Stomp, but Lashley shrugged it off by preventing him from fully driving Lashley into the mat. Rollins showcased a magnitude of strength of his own, planting Lashley with the buckle bomb. As Lashley was about to Spear The Visionary out of his boots, Rollins shockingly countered with a wicked Pedigree, earning a close two-count. Matt Riddle suddenly charged the ring and provided a distraction, which allowed Lashley to hit the decisive Spear on Rollins.
