Apple TV+ has just unveiled the trailer for “The Big Cigar,” the six-part limited series about Black Panther party founder Huey P. Newton (André Holland). The show tells the remarkable true story of how Newton, a film producer, and a whole crew of people involved in a fake movie production helped the political activist while he tried to evade the FBI in 1974.
The trailer introduces Holland as Newton and his revolutionary accomplishments, along Alessandro Nivola as producer Bert Schneider. The cast includes Tiffany Boone, Pj Byrne, Marc Menchaca, Moses Ingram, Rebecca Dalton, Olli Haaskivi, Jordane Christie, and Glynn Turman (guest stars include Taylor Jackson as Candice Bergen and Inny Clemons as Richard Pryor). With upbeat ’70s music and the peppy fonts to go with it, the vibe is more upbeat than one would expect of a drama thriller — but as the premise underscores, there’s always more story to tell.

Nick and Aaron Carter are the next subjects of an Investigation Discovery docuseries. The network is behind the recent bombshell docuseries Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV. After rebranding Twitter as X, Elon Musk is bringing his favorite letter to the small screen. The company boasts that it will feature tailored algorithms, among other features. So what exactly is X TV, and where can you find it? Here’s everything we know about the streaming service so far. What does X TV claim to offer? The company’s CEO Linda Yaccarino touted its benefits on Twitter Tuesday, writing that while it’s still being built, the features of the service will include a “trending video algorithm” (perhaps similar to the “for you” list of tweets or the trending topics bar), “AI-powered topics,” “cross-device experience”, “enhanced video search,” “effortless casting,” and “wide availability.” From the small ...

It’s a Hollywood cliche you have to hire the nicest actors to play the meanest people, and on “Under the Bridge” a group of struggling, lonely teens committing violent crimes certainly qualifies.
Unlike other shows about teens, where the cast is pushing 30, the kids on Hulu’s miniseries all are played by actors aged 12 to 16. This created a few challenges during production, due to the dark true-life plot, which centers on small-town British Columbia and the kids who assault and kill their classmate Reena Virk one night, and then basically all cover for each other while the case unfolds.
We wanted to “[give] them permission to explore the cruelty of their characters,” creator Quinn Shephard said to IndieWire. If nothing else, The Veil is certainly efficient. While streaming series tend to stretch out their plots for far too many episodes and multiple seasons, Elisabeth Moss’ new Hulu thriller (premiering next Tuesday, April 30 on the streamer) is told across six lean episodes that mostly clock in well under an hour. Having seen all six, I can say it’s an effectively tense and propulsive drama that scratches that Homeland itch, with its tale of a damaged spy forming a close bond with a possible terrorist. But even in six hours, it still finds time for unnecessary subplots and bizarre...

We still don’t know whether Kevin Costner will be returning to his role as John Dutton for the final stretch of Yellowstone when the back half of Season 5 returns this November. However, some fans have a very clever idea for how the show could finish out the character’s arc by hiring someone else for the role: his Hollywood look-alike Bob Odenkirk to step into Dutton’s scruffy boots! For those unfamiliar with the Odenkirk-Costner connection, the gag comes from the former’s hit series Better Call Saul. In the Breaking Bad prequel, Odenkirk stars as a pre-Saul Goodman version of his character, who still goes by his given name of Jimmy McGill and pulls off lots of minor (but still gnarly) cons on unsuspecting rubes. In one instance, he convinces a pair of girls to come home with him and his best friend on the pretense that he’s Kevin Costner,...

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for Shōgun Episode 10, “A Dream of a Dream.”] FX‘s Shōgun reached its thrilling conclusion in Episode 10, “A Dream of a Dream.” In it, Lord Yoshii Toranaga’s (the fantastic Hiroyuki Sanada) dream of a nation at peace came true, albeit at a steep cost. As he told Lord Kashigi Yabushige (Tadanobu Asano) in their final scene, “Crimson Sky” was already finished. He “sent a woman to do what an army couldn’t,” and through Mariko’s (the great Anna Sawai) sacrifice, the final pieces of his plan fell into place. Because of Mariko, he wouldn’t have to draw his sword in battle at all. Sawai previously teased a moment of “revelation” in Shōgun‘s final scenes to TV Insider, and viewers now know what she meant. All this time that Toranaga spent denying that he wanted to be Shōgun (the military leader and de facto ruler of Japan), ...

After 34 years of hundreds of beers and very few lines, Larry the Barfly’s story has come to a sad end. He spoke in a total of two episodes in the entire 34 years The Simpsons has been running – in Season 2 in “Bart Gets Hit by a Car” and in Season 8 in “El Viaje Misterioso de Nuestro Jomer” (he says one word: “Colleague.”). He was often seen in the background of episodes, with – what many would describe as – a dumb look on his face. And so, with one final view of Lord Toranaga standing alone at the edge of the world, FX’s “Shōgun” comes to a poignant, if abrupt end. Viewers who expected the old-school Japanese epic to end with a massive battle or other large-scale set piece may have been disappointed, but after spending ten episodes watching Toranaga mastermind his way through a 17th century game of thrones, the charged determination in his gaze is dynamic enough on its own.
The ending of “Shōgun” focuses on the certainty of Japan’s future, revealing the show’s true narrative as a heavily orchestrated reality wherein Toranaga has already won. But what exactly does his victory mean?

In an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show on April 23, Wahlberg and Moynahan shared a clip from the final season that is currently airing, featuring a scene with the Reagans at their weekly Sunday dinner. Drew Barrymore asked the two how they’re feeling about the 14-year-long run coming to an end. “I think everybody’s really upset and sad, but also happy and satiated?” she posed. “More upset and sad,” said Wahlberg. Co-host Ross Matthews followed up by asking what it feels like to say goodbye to their characters. Moynahan responded that it was like saying goodbye to “family.” “I think it’s more saying goodbye to the people behind the characters,” said the actress. “We’ve created such a family...

Them has never shied away from exploring some of the darkest parts of America’s history. The first season of this anthology series was centered around the Great Migration of the 1950s and virulent racism in suburban America, and now the second season (all episodes drop on April 25 on Prime Video) focuses on Los Angeles circa 1991, in the direct aftermath of Rodney King’s assault at the hands of the LAPD. This is where we find Detective Dawn Reeves, as she wrestles with racism and misogyny from her colleagues, familial turmoil, and most terrifyingly, a malevolent entity terrorizing Los Angelenos all over the city — with her loved ones potentially the next targets. Family Ties Much of what drives Them: The Scare is Detective Reeves’ fierce devotion to her son, Kel (Joshua J. Tiffany Stratton is used to being the center of the universe and has taken that line of thinking from Nxt to WWE’s main roster. A breakout moment for her was an impressive showing in February’s Elimination Chamber match in Perth, Australia. She has acclimated well, ruffling the feathers of top performers like Bianca Belair and Naomi. With the WWE Draft looming, Stratton looks ready to continue her ascension no matter what brand she might land. We sat down with the “Buff Barbie,” who opened up about life on the road. What has been the biggest adjustment with your transition to the main roster? Tiffany Stratton: I would definitely say travel would be the number one, craziest, hardest thing to adapt to. The report states that accurate Api representation in media could potentially lead to an additional $2 to $4.4 billion increase in industry revenues, as half of Api consumers would be willing to spend more money and time on films and television shows that more authentically represent their experiences.

Complicated relationships and twisted secrets are at the heart of Hulu’s Under the Bridge, and that’s not limited to just the teenage characters. Based on the nonfiction book of the same name by Rebecca Godfrey, the limited series centers on the 1997 murder of fourteen-year-old Reena Virk (Vritika Gupta) and the classmates accused of killing her. While the show focuses heavily on adolescent angst and the cruelty of teenage girls, it also dedicates an ample amount of time to exploring the complex dynamic between its two adult female leads, writer Rebecca (Riley Keough) and police officer Cam (Lily Gladstone).

John Michael Higgins grew up on game shows as a child, so to play a host on TV or movies and then helm actual ones of his own is never lost on him. The prolific actor has been a popular fixture on the Game Show Network in recent years starting with America Says, which ran for five seasons over more than 500 episodes. The show even earned him an Emmy nomination for “Outstanding Game Show Host.” From there, Higgins has gone on to host a throwback in Split Second, which is currently in the middle of its second season. Based on the format from the legendary Monty Hall, the game sees three contestants decide in a split second which of the three general interest trivia questions they can answer. The first player to buzz in gets the first pick with the last player left to answer whatever is left, which is often the most difficult.

When someone drops an F-bomb on Saturday Night Live, it’s generally pretty newsworthy. But for some viewers, “the ‘Gd’ term” is equally offensive.
That’s the lesson Brooke Germain, an editor at The Nevada Sagebrush, learned when she filed a Freedom of Information Act request to receive all complaints that the FCC had received about SNL going back to the start of 2023. She has since posted the full file to the public records platform MuckRock—and, well, there’s a common theme.
In January of 2023, Colin Jost joked on “Weekend Update” that while Joe Biden and Donald Trump were embroiled in very different classified document scandals, both “made Hillary Clinton want to blow her Goddamn brains out.”
A viewer from Cumming, Georgia, emailed the FCC:
“Please note watching Saturday Night Live 01/21-22/23 over the air on Wxia 11 Atlanta, Ga the ‘Gd’ term was used, and I am not ok with this to begin with.
