Alan began his creative life at Doyle Dane Bernbach (DDB), the legendary advertising agency. John Dann MacDonald was born on July 24, 1916, in Sharon, Pennsylvania. He served in the OSS in the far east during World War Two. While still in the military, he wrote a short story and mailed it home to his wife, simply for her entertainment. Unknown to him, she submitted it to the magazine "Story", and it was accepted. This launched a writing career that spanned more than 40 years. MacDonald is best known for the series of detective-style novels featuring Travis McGee, with an interesting twist on the usual hard-boiled character; McGee was NOT a licensed private investigator, and in most of the novels, he agrees to recover something of value for a friend or a friend of a friend; his fee is one-half the value of the object. MacDonald had enrolled in the Wharton School of Finance at the University of Pennsylvania, but dropped out during his sophomore year. He later completed his studies at Syracuse University, graduating in 1938, and in 1939 he received a Masters in Business Administration from Harvard University. While attending Syracuse, he met Dorothy Prentiss; they married in 1937. They had one son. At the age of 70, John D. MacDonald traveled to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in December of 1986 to undergo heart surgery. He died at a hospital there on December 28th. He is buried in Milwaukee, at Holy Cross Cemetery and Mausoleum.- Actor

Tony Butala was born in Sharon, Pennsylvania, to Mary Ann (Ference) and John George Butala, both of Croatian descent. He began his professional singing career in 1948, singing in "Starlets On Parade" on KDKA Radio in Pittsburgh, as well as performing live as an Al Jolson, Ted Lewis and Eddie Cantor black-face impersonator. In 1951, Tony went to California and became a member of the famous 'The Robert Mitchell Boys' Choir'. With the group, he appeared in the 1951 film On Moonlight Bay (1951), starring Gordon MacRae and Doris Day; 1953's The War of the Worlds (1953), with Gene Barry; and the 1954 holiday classic White Christmas (1954), with Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye. In addition, Tony's voice can be heard singing in Walt Disney's animated Peter Pan (1953) as the lost boys and also as Tommy Rettig's singing voice in the Dr. Seuss classic The 5,000 Fingers of Dr. T. (1953), both released in 1952. As a teenager, Tony began singing with his first group, "The Fourmost" (a quartet whose members included Connie Stevens). Tony Butala was the guiding force in the formation of The Lettermen. In 1958, the very first Lettermen group appeared as "The Rhythm Boys" in "New Comers of 1928", a Las Vegas revue which also starred such legends as Paul Whiteman, Buster Keaton, Rudy Vallee, Harry Richman, Fifi D'Orsay and Billy Gilbert. The group then consisted of Tony, Mike Barnett and Talmadge Russell (who was later replaced by Jerry Paul). The first recording by the trio came later that same year (the group made up of Tony Butala, Gary Clark and Jimmy Blaine). The Lettermen's first hit single was released in 1961 and hit after hit followed. The group then consisted of Tony, Jim Pike and Bob Engemann. Through the years, there were several personnel changes, but one constant has always remained with The Lettermen--Tony Butala. His musical talents and constant promotion of goodwill have helped to win The Lettermen millions of fans worldwide. The Lettermen are probably the most prolific singers of love songs in the history of music. Their longevity in the entertainment business is unparalleled. When he's not performing, Tony spends much of his time in his home town of Sharon, Pennsylvania, overseeing the Vocal Group Hall of Fame and Museum, which opened its doors in 1998. He also has been developing his 40 acre vineyard in Napa Valley since 1987. He is the father of four children and two grandchildren.- Writer

John Kiriakou is a former CIA analyst and case officer, former senior investigator for the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and former counterterrorism consultant. While employed by the CIA, he was involved in critical counterterrorism missions following the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, but refused to be trained in so-called "enhanced interrogation techniques."
After the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Kiriakou became the chief of counterterrorism operations in Pakistan. CIA officials offered to train him in "enhanced interrogation techniques," but he refused. While serving in Pakistan, Kiriakou led the CIA team in the March 2002 raid and capture of Abu Zubaydah, who was considered al Qaeda's third-ranking official at the time. The CIA later distributed disinformation internally that Zubaydah had been waterboarded one time, and that as a result, he had "cracked." It was later revealed that the CIA waterboarded Abu Zubaydah 83 times, and the waterboarding had not resulted in any actionable intelligence. Although Zubaydah's interrogations were videotaped, the CIA later destroyed the videos despite a judicial order to preserve them, claiming it was done to protect the identities of agents shown in the footage.
Following Zubaydah's capture, Kiriakou became Executive Assistant to the CIA's Deputy Director for Operations, where he served as the Director of Central Intelligence's principal Iraq briefer.
Kiriakou left the CIA in March 2004. He later served as a senior investigator on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and as senior intelligence advisor to Committee Chairman Senator John Kerry. Kiriakou also authored a bestselling book, "The Reluctant Spy: My Secret Life in the CIA's War on Terror," and worked as an intelligence consultant.
Throughout his career, Kiriakou received 10 CIA Exceptional Performance Awards, the CIA's Sustained Superior Performance Award, the Counterterrorism Service Medal, and the State Department's Meritorious Honor Award.
In 2007, Kiriakou appeared on ABC News in an interview with Brian Ross, during which he became the first former CIA officer to confirm that the agency waterboarded detainees and label waterboarding as torture. Kiriakou's interview revealed that this practice was not just the result of a few rogue agents, but was official U.S. policy approved at the highest levels of the government.
The government started investigating Kiriakou immediately after his media appearance. Five years later, the government finally succeeded in piecing together enough information to criminally prosecute him. He became the sixth whistleblower indicted by the Obama administration under the Espionage Act - a law designed to punish spies, not whistleblowers.
Eventually, in order to avoid a trial that could have resulted in separation from his wife and five children for up to 45 years, he opted to plead guilty to one count of violating the Intelligence Identities Protection Act in exchange for a 30-month sentence.
Kiriakou is the sole CIA agent to go to jail in connection with the U.S. torture program, despite the fact that he never tortured anyone. Rather, he blew the whistle on this horrific wrongdoing.
Even more troubling is the fact that CIA agents who actually engaged in torture after 9/11 have never been prosecuted, nor have the officials who condoned or ordered torture, or the attorneys who wrote memos justifying the torture. Similarly, the officials who destroyed the videotapes that provided clear evidence of torture have never been held accountable for their wrongdoing.
Kiriakou became, and remains, widely viewed as an American hero who bravely served his country and blew the whistle on torture. In 2012, for example, Kiriakou was honored with the Joe A. Callaway Award for Civil Courage, an award given to individuals who advance truth and justice despite the personal risk it creates.
Kiriakou was formally sentenced on January 25, 2013 to 30 months in federal prison. Two days prior to sentencing, Kiriakou was honored by inclusion of his portrait in artist Robert Shetterly's series "Americans Who Tell the Truth," which features notable truth-tellers from American history.
Kiriakou reported to federal prison in Loretto, Pennsylvania on February 28, 2013 to begin serving his sentence, where he has continued to speak out in a series of "Letters from Loretto," including his first, which provided a stunning portrait of prison life. In November 2013, the Peace and Justice Center of Sonoma County, California honored Kiriakou as its "Peacemaker of the Year."
He was released from prison in February 2015.- Actor

Born on November 3rd, 1977 in Sharon, Connecticut, Philip John Amelio II was the eldest of Diana and John Amelio's four children. After moving to Pine Plains, New York, he first received a taste for acting when cast in a Pepperidge Farm commercial at the tender age of four. This would be the beginning of an acting career that would span his most of his childhood as he won roles in many adverts including the nationally-aired commercial campaigns with Ford Motors, All Laundry Detergent, and Shake 'N Bake Bread Crumbs. The hallmark of Philip's work as an actor in adverts was in 1987 when he was chosen to be the very first spokesman for Jell-O pudding snacks when he was only nine years old.
He also carved a name for himself in films and TV shows, landing roles in A Place to Call Home (1987), All My Children (1970) and Born on the Fourth of July (1989). The highlight of Philip's career as a child actor was landing a starring role in Lucille Ball's last sitcom, Life with Lucy (1986), where he played Kevin, Lucy's grandson.
By the age of thirteen, however, Philip decided he no longer wished to act and instead threw himself into his love for sports. Not only succeeding academically at high school, he excelled in baseball and winter track. After leaving school, he went on to study English and Social Studies at the university in Albany then receive a Masters Degree in Education at the College of Saint Rose, Albany, New York.
Once a qualified teacher, Philip began teaching English and History at Duanesburg High School, Delanson, New York. He still loved baseball, and was the pitching coach for the Pine Plains Little League, head coach of the Pine Plains Junior League and the modified baseball coach at Duanesburg High School. In addition, he helped coach and teach dozens of players in the Pine Plains School District in numerous clinics and summer leagues with his father, including coaching many of the players on the 2002 New York State Championship Baseball Team.
In March 2005, he complained of a sore back and his doctors assumed that he was suffering from herniated disc or sciatica. However, he in fact had a bacterial infection of the heart valve that flared up due to the misdiagnosis of his condition. Philip deteriorated rapidly and died on April 1st 2005 at the tragically young age of twenty seven years old. In his memory, his father established 'Philip J. Amelio, II. Scholarship Fund', offered to impoverished schoolchildren who reside in the Pine Plains Central School District and the Duanesburg Central School District to help them maintain their education.- In a way Allan Weiss made a incredible successful career in Hollywood. He almost never got good reviews for the movie he wrote, but all seven feature films written by him were big moneymakers.
"Blue Hawaii" (1961) was his first screenplay. Producer Hal B. Wallis used his screenplays for five other Elvis Presley films which all proved to be commercially successful. Writer's Guild of America nominated him for Best Written American Musical award in 1965 for the film "Roustabout" (1964).
His only non-Elvis Presley film screenplay was "The Sons of Katie Elder" (1965) which was directed by Henry Hathaway. Starring John Wayne and Dean Martin it got best reviews ever for a Allan Weiss film. - Soundtrack

A native of New Sharon, Maine, Kingsley spent a year of high school in Lubeck, Germany (during the 1989 Reunification), where he studied theatre and playwriting, and returned to the States to act in and direct theatre at the community and regional levels. His first short story was published in 1990. After graduating high school, Kingsley founded Dose of Applause Players, which premiered with his first full-length drama, "Auld Lang Syne," and went on to produce three full seasons of Kingsley's work. Accepted on scholarship to prestigious Bennington College, Kingsley double majored in directing and playwriting, and in 1995, he transferred to the British American Drama Academy in London, England, where he studied under legends Fiona Shaw, Mark Wing Davies, Irving Wardle, Diana Quick, and Kate Bassett.
While in London, Kingsley founded his second theatre company, Ironwood Theatre Project, and traveled to New Delhi, India where the company premiered to critical acclaim with Howard Barker's "Judith," and "Scenes From an Execution." In India, Kingsley also penned and sold two radio plays, "Department of D.S.L.L.P.T.O.P." and "Just Looking," which were performed on the top commercial station in the country. Touring to New York and Los Angeles, "The Slaughterwright" (directed by indie filmmaker Ian McCrudden), was optioned by 1998 Slamdance Film Festival winning director Scott Storm, and Kingsley relocated to Los Angeles.
