Arthur C. Lueker was born in Chicago, December 15, 1900, then moved to Los Angeles in 1920. He served in the Navy and was married to Anna Violet Brown in 1925. In 1931 he was employed by director Mervyn Leroy and his father-in-law, Jack Warner, as their personal driver. In mid 1933, Arthur was brought to Warner Brothers to begin working on the lot as a Second Assistant Director. The first productions Art worked on were 42nd Street (1933) and The House on 56th Street (1933). These films were released in early 1933.
In 1936 Arthur was promoted to First Assistant Director, and also traveled the world scouting locations. In 1950, still with Warner Brothers, Lueker went on to become Unit Production Manager with 20th Century Fox. In the mid 50s he was involved in television production and worked as First Assistant Director in several episodes of "The Screen Directors Playhouse" and other TV shows of the day.
During his 34 year span of working in the film and television industry, Art worked with all the great directors including John Houston and John Ford. He worked with an array of the true film stars of the era including Errol Flynn, Josephine Hutchenson, Humphrey Bogart, Lauren Bacall, Dick Powell, Ida Lopino, Orson Wells, and Paul Newman to name a few. Arthur was one of the first inductees to the film Directors Guild of America, and was a member of The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences.
Arthur and his wife Violet never had any children of their own, but were devoted to their niece Penny Stalcup and later to her five children of Huntington Beach, California. Arthur and Violet resided in Beverly Hills for 30 years. After retirement they moved to the Cheviot Hills section of West Los Angeles. Arthur died March 29, 1970 but helped to create a legacy of films for all to enjoy.
