- An accomplished theatre actress whose only film contribution was sadly lost, Hope Drown in Illinois, USA.
According to the Playbill register, her first noticeable play was "Peter Weston" in 1923, around the same time she was cast in the lead role in Hollywood (1923), her film debut and only film performance. In what is considered one of the first cinematic portrayals about Hollywood, she plays a sweet innocent girl is to become a movie star and she sets to Hollywood to make her dreams come true but faces plenty of challenges. The film was notorious for the presence of many Golden Era stars like Mary Astor, Douglas Fairbanks, Cecil B. DeMille, Roscoe 'Fatty' Arbuckle among others in cameos playing themselves.
Other stage credits include: "The Best People" (1924), "The Joker" (1925), "Move On" (1926), "Security" (1929) and "Nice Women" (1929).
She passed away on May 26, 1990 in San Francisco, California, USA, and very little is known as for what happened to her career after her final credited play in the late 1920's or details about her personal life. - Hans Schellbach was born on 28 June 1925 in Beuthen, Upper Silesia, Germany [now Bytom, Slaskie, Poland]. Miss Wicks was born on 22 July 1901 in Colorado, USA. She was an actress. She died on 26 May 1990 in Los Angeles, California, USA.- Chris McGregor was a pianist and arranger who loved people and the music of the people. His starting point was always the people - when he arranged he arranged parts for a specific person. His own songs were usually about people - Bakwetha, Maxine, Andromeda, Mandisa. Even when the name did not reflect it his songs were about people - Mayibuye is a song for Nelson Mandela, Dakar celebrates the ground-breaking meeting of people from the liberation movement with people from South Africa. His music rhythmically and harmonically was rooted in the music of the amaXhosa people among whom he grew up, and the sounds of the Xhosa students singing, in their own inimitable way, the music of the Scottish Church. But his music was not in any way an exercise in nostalgia - he was passionately concerned about issues of the day, environmental degradation, the politics of exploitation, racism, the nuclear threat. All of these were part of his experience and showed in various ways in his music which was sophisticated without being esoteric. People could and did dance to his music. Wherever he played he spread joy and fun. Because he believed in people and wanted his music to be for the people.
