- Gösta Bohman studied at the university to become a lawyer and got his first job as assistant manager at the Stockholm Construction Manager's Association. He moved on to the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce in 1942. This got him in contact with conservative ideas and he became member of parliament in 1958 for the Conservative Party. He became the leading MP for his party in defense politics. Becoming the party leader in 1970 he modernized the party and furthered the cooperation with the Liberal Party and the agrarian Center Party. It was a victory for him when the three parties could form a government in 1976. But the recurrent crises for the government made him resign from government and, in 1981, the leadership for the party. He remained an MP until 1991, becoming the grand old man for his party. His book about his wife's suffering from Alzheimer's disease attracted much attention.
