- Mexican character actor who achieved his greatest success in U.S. films. He was born in Mexico city, living in numerous places throughout the country. He received a private education in Houston, Texas as a teenager, but dropped out and roamed about doing an assortment of jobs. His family, however, brought him back to Mexico City, where he subsequently found work in the struggling Mexican film industry. He appeared in many Mexican films before director John Huston offered him the role of Gold Hat in The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (1948). Bedoya stole the scenes in which he appeared as the smiling cutthroat and delivered the famous line about not needing any "stinking badges". He made a number of popular films in the U.S. in the next nine years, but a drinking problem destroyed his health. He died of a heart attack at the age of 53.

Javier Solis was the third child of a poor family. His mother sent him to live with his aunt and uncle Sra. Angela Lopez Martinez and Sr. Valentin Levario Plata, whom Gabriel felt great love and affection for as if they were his real parents. Because of their poverty, he had to drop out of school and never had the opportunity to attend High School. He was blessed with a very beautiful voice, and entered many singing contests as a child and won most all of them. He worked at many different jobs in order to help his family. When he was 16 years old, he traveled to Puebla in order to sing with a group known as Mariachi Metepec. And then, approximately a couple of years later, two tremendously famous men named Alfredo Gil and Julito Rodriguez (from the Trio De Los Panchos) discovered him and aided him in securing a contract in the year 1950 with the CBS Recording Company in Mexico City. At the same time, he was under contract and singing at a very famous Teatro Lirico, also in downtown Mexico City. That same year, he met a very beautiful dancer by the name of Srta. Blanca Estela Saenz, whom he later married. With his first successful recording hit, he began to use his new "Stage name" of Javier Solis. Then, he began performing in other countries in Central and South-America, and also in the United States too. This man with one of the most beautiful voices in all of Latin-America, made over thirty movies during his short life-time. But his talented genius was cut short at the age of only 34 years by complications from Gall- bladder surgery, and he died on April 19th, 1966. His music has not died, nor has he been forgotten, and his fantastic singing is still available in many countries.- Actor

Althought most of her career was before the cameras, Mimí Derba is better remembered as the first woman director in Mexico (and perhaps in Latin America). On 1917, when Mexican screens were filled by italian melodramas of "divas", Derba organized one of the very first Mexican production companies: Azteca Films. Practically without previous experience on screen, the actress produced, wrote and performed in two box-office hits: Alma de sacrificio (1917) and En defensa propia (1917). The success of those films persuated her to take the director's chair in Tigresa, La (1917). There's a legend that Azteca Films was a cover-up for General Pablo González, a minister in the cabinet of President Venustiano Carranza and Derba's lover in those years. González was accused of being the mastermind behind a famous gang of robbers called La Banda del Automóvil Gris (The Grey Car Gang) whose assaults were very famous in the Mexico City of 1915. Those events inspired the famous Mexican episodic film Automóvil Gris, El (1919). The mysterious of the source of the incoming money for producing Derba's films was never discovered, but it is certain that, after the scandal of involving González with the gang, activities ceased on Azteca Films and the career of the first woman Mexican director was over. Derba continued acting and made a strong career as a supporting actress in a great number of famous Mexican films. One of her most notorious roles was the bitter grandmother of Evita Muñoz 'Chachita' in Ustedes los ricos (1947).- Actor
