- After a near-fatal plane crash in WWII, Olympian Louis Zamperini spends a harrowing 47 days in a raft with two fellow crewmen before he's caught by the Japanese navy and sent to a prisoner-of-war camp.
- After nuclear warfare erupted around the world, a nuclear winter has decimated Australia. Temperatures plummeted, the sun disappearing behind never-ending clouds. A lonely woman named Violet dreams of the garden she used to grow before everything struggled to survive. One day, she finds packets of unopened sunflower seeds while rummaging through an abandoned shed. She is interrupted by a stranger at the door who she is immediately wary of. Violet runs away, only taking one packet of seeds in her panic. Violet tries to grow the sunflower seeds, but each time the plant dies before it can flower. Violet does her best to get something to grow and just when she has created the 'perfect' makeshift setup, she runs out of seeds. She returns to the shed to retrieve the remaining seeds, but they're gone. Disappointed, she leaves. Unbeknownst to Violet, The Stranger is watching and follows her home. Back home, Violet begins to dismantle her setup when she hears a sound outside. She goes to investigate and finds The Stranger setting down a bag. Still wary of each other, The Stranger asks Violet to open the bag. Inside, are the rest of the seeds that Violet left behind in the shed. Violet realises that instead of being wary of The Stranger, they could actually be a friend. She invites them in to help her plant the seeds.
