- In the southern Chinese province of Fujian, Glove puppetry is part of an ancient but declining traditional culture ; this millenary form of folk art, which originated from the Tang Dynasty and still exist until now, is one of the most famous cultural heritages of the Fujian province. Despite its rich history, this art is now falling into oblivion. The protagonists of this documentary short film are all members of a folk performing group in Zhangzhou, the Nan Jiang Glove Puppetry Troupe. Their work is mostly to perform at traditional festivals and cultural activities. However, less and less people are interested in this type of shows, the troupe often performs in front of empty seats - In 2006, glove puppetry and puppet head carving from Zhangzhou were listed in the first batch of Chinese intangible cultural heritage protection catalogue. Unfortunately, such a title does not seem to bring any real positive impact on the tragic destiny of the glove puppetry itself. This short film will bring you into a journey through the troupe's work and daily life during the Spring Festival, revealing the tragic life of this troupe of artist from another time struggling in such a modern society.
