- Stefan is miserable, having lost his family by Sonya's cowardly flight. Wolfgang and Joseph bizarrely prevent Marianne from feeling the same by being among many local victims of an epidemic. The village's most urgent problem, possibly the root cause, is a leak in the water-works. Stefan rightly suspects the leak is in an outdated pipe, but has to fight his forestry colleague and superior to get proper equipment used. A lady veterinarian passing by meets Stefan in unfortunate circumstances, but they get on remarkably well.

- Stefan's stepson Daniel's years of model behavior seem to end, feeling deeply hurt because the girls get undeserved treats while he is stuck with endless chores. Farmer Hans Sailer's adult son Ferdinand has bought a water buffalo to produce Küblach mozzarella, a promising novelty, but the bovine escapes and causes damages all over the village. After more trouble, Daniel's deepest grief is revealed: his real dad Karsten is emigrating to Greece.
- Stefan takes his lover Sonia along on a business-holiday trip to the Canary island Tenerife. He visits his ex, vet Nathalie Kamp, in the local zoo, but she's mean commissioner Puerta's main suspect for the theft of a chimpanzee baby. Shortly after, Nathalie's hunky lover, Julian König, attempts the next robbery, eggs of a lizard species near extinction. Sonia is in his way, so he has to kidnap her and fails to get the eggs. Julian has to tell his dad, dodgy tycoon Raphael König, who fears the buyer, Carlos, enough to blackmail Stefan.
- Major foundation sponsor Meierhof makes the major force Stefan to show him around the park, then doesn't show up and 'delegates' to his adolescent sons: Philip, the company heir who returned home from his US college, and irresponsible Anton. Ronald is to take care of them, but can't allow climbing or mountain-biking. Anton decides on the second anyhow, and chasing them, Ronald makes a bad fall, only Philip sees to his rescue. Meanwhile only Daniel truly stands by Stefan after he confessed his infidelity to Marie, who moves out, while the major dumps her unfaithful sister Danielle and is tempted to bury Stefan in work.

- Stefan Leitner returns from his Canadian ranger career to sell his dilapidated native home in Bavarian small town Küblach before the costs become untenable. Brat daughter Jenny objects to being neglected' as she came along to discover her roots together, but just as 'home' in Canada, workaholic Stefan keep getting distracted, in this case by a wild wolf which wandered into the near-ruin. Stefan has an instant crush on local doctor Sonja Schwanthaler, whose gentle son Daniel clashes with cocky Jenny, who insist to 'tech him' how to train his new dog, causing him to fall painfully and the canine to escape and confront the wolf. Having found the interim mayor Vitus Kreidtmayr near impossible to convince it's a real wolf, and the forester post vacant without takers so far, Stefan applies 'just in case' before returning to Canada. Getting the job offered, he must tell his in-living fraudster father Wolfgang Leitner and uproot Jenny, now for good, and leave his ranger station behind.
- A reform of the whole Bavarian forestry service complicates Stefan taken up his post in Küblach, as the forestry laborers are no longer under his local authority. Despite Stefan giving good advice about safer chemicals to fight the invasion by procession caterpillars, local farmers mistrust him and mostly boycott his first meeting to introduce the reform, a colleague warns him acceptance takes years. His predecessor's son, wood trader Markus Rombach, kindly offers his father's well-tested jeep, Stefan's temporary rental having been damaged by a careless farmer. Daniel's mother, GP Sonja Schwanthaler, wonders about a coughing epidemic, till Stefan, who calls on her for daughter Jenny, brings up the caterpillars, whose countless poisonous affect sensible, even allergic people gravely. Finally Stefan's father Wolfgang Leitner arrives from Canada, having invited himself to move in indefinitely without asking in advance.

Stephan teaches Mr. Göbe how to handle a virtual step-son. Daniel reports his silly step-sister missing.
- Wood trader Markus Rombach's firm is falsely rumored to be in financial trouble, which may cause real problems. In fact Küblach's forestry cooperation manager Hubert Gassner is gambling away his and the society's capital at cards. Stefan Leitner discovers everything and tries to calm the victims. The girls meanly taunt Daniel while he suffers from bad influenza. Greedy bickering over lotto winnings becomes Jozef and Wolfgang badly.
- Forester Stefan worries about a rogue horse rider, who ignores the rules about accessible forest paths. The mere suggestion of introducing municipal horse ID chips makes owners suitably alert. Jozef and Wolfgang try to rid the father Amlbos's church organ of its squirrel nest. The rider causes an accident. Stefan solves both problems.

- Kümlach is threatened by an epidemic of bark beetles, which could kill off its forest unless it's handled jointly. That convinces step-dad Stefan to offer Dani a deal: he'll pay the rest for help fighting the beetles. Young Ferdinand Sailer gets dad Hans's blessing, at Stefan's recommendation, to fight the beetle for their family, and helps save the whole town.
- Küblach is in danger of being infested by rabbits, who could eat the young tree shoots. Stefan hosts the Canadian exchange forester. Instead of his experienced friend Stephen, it's a charming youngster, Tom 'TK' Keller, whose cute looks instantly seduce Stefan's teenage daughter. Tom's 'imagination' wins over the men. Wolfgang blames 'negligent doc' Sonja when Joeph gets mysterious allergic symptoms after visiting both of them.
- Stefan vehemently opposes Jenny's intention to seduce the hunky, young adult Canadian exchange forester Tom 'TK' Keller, who never gave her any cause to believe he feels more then courteous friendship for her. The girls meanly gang up against Daniel because he's amused to see the brat (16) feeling haunted for a chance. Stefan realizes first why TK couldn't by interested in Jenny: he's gay. Wolfgang seems the only adult in Kübach who isn't worried the neighboring town wants to steal 'his' may tree as revenge for his triple stunt, but actually he's cunningly prepared for them.

- Küblach can get a good deal to use expensive forestry equipment, but only if everyone joins in. Only Laura Bergmeister, who inherited her father's farm and stubbornly insists to prove her worth, refuses, the latest of a serious of aberrations from time-honored practices her father wisely adhered to, thus antagonizing everyone, in the end even her lover Ferdinand. Stefan has to make her see reason. He also comes up with a brilliant idea after Sonja, Wolfganga and Marianne fail to convince Joseph he's not ill but suffering from hypochondria.
- Daniel entered a raffle to win an mp3 player, but got a 'miniature' piglet, which all three kids want to keep. Stefan must find and catch it, then convince them cute piglets become huge swine. Daniel has joined the truants, Steff, Mark and Tobias, who made him drink alcohol and even vandalize public property. Wolfgang needs a cheap birthday gift for Marianne, so Jozef offers to pick up his ancestral right to harvest river clam pearls. When they find the river so low it threatens the mollusks, Wolfgang turns ecologist, but his dam threatens Kreidtmayr's trout farm. Once more, Stefan must pull his step-don and dad back in line and solve the water shortage.
- Daniel and Lisa get a surprise visit form their father, Karsten, who wants to take them to his new Greek home a few weeks during the summer holiday. Forgetting to notify Marianne who was to pick them up at school cause an excessive scene and search, but Stefan accepts to help them make up. Sonja felt side-tracked, especially now Stefan allows his daughter Jenny to visit her ma's grave in her natal Canada, but Stefan buys her dream-ring. Wolfgang has started auctioning wood he bough far cheaper from the municipal wood, so people suspect Stefan of nepotism. Stefan worries more about amateurs using chainsaws, knowing the gruesome bloody risks.
- During her kids' Greek holiday with dad Karsten, Stefan plans to propose to Sonja. He tells only Marcus, who swears silence but can't deny when his wife Anna guesses, and she spills the beans to Sonja, while both lovers's professional emergencies mess up their romantic evening plans. Meanwhile Stefan's expert eye for maples spots unacceptable foreign breed seedlings. Wolfgang's next scheme is a crazy countryside casino, based on cow droppings.
- Stefan mediates when conflicting interests concerning walking and riding requires equipping a new path for horse-rides. He's seduced into enjoying another ride on his ex-horse Tango, but the owner steals a kiss when he gallantly helps her down. Sonja acts viciously jealous, but the real reason delights him. Wolfgang has posted a contact advert for Joseph. The desirable bachelor is not amused when four dubious suitors turn up, complete baffled when the last proves to be his ex Gerlinde, who left him and filed for divorce for years ago, yet insists to honor her motel booking.
- Stefan teaches the primary school kids about the forest by organizing a treasure hunt. His own kids are back from abroad, Daniel sad to leave his summer lover behind and anxious the baby may be another girl. Wolfgang is ecstatic about the first visit in 20 years from Stefan's godfather, uncle Ludwig, Dr. Mehringer, but can't deal with him suffering from advanced Alzheimer. Pregnant Sonja keeps working with the flu despite fainting, until Ludwig sends her to hospital, where Dr. Lechner diagnoses serious Q-fever, highly contagious but only from sheep. Stefan tirelessly searches for the culprit flock, and finds it at a scary place.
- Sonja is back from hospital and found healthy, as well as the baby, whose position in the center of parental attention renders selfish Jenny nastily jealous. Stefan has a hard time convincing the locals to help him collect forest path data for a GPS system to help outsiders such as lumber truckers. Hermann Koller has started smoking his own deer meat for the local Ochsen inn. Shortly after the tasting by forestry colleagues, both get food poisoning, but Sonja and Stefan have a hard time figuring out what the poison is.
- Both small animals and shiny objects go missing all over Küblach. Stefan ends up discovering two kind of somewhat excusable thieves, ravens and a would-be-zoo-keeper. Sonja tried long to hide their engagement ring was among the loot, but is even treated to a repeat-proposal. Ferdinand has had it with has impossible to please dad, and leaves the ancestral home. Laura soon accepts to let her lover move in as farm partner. Moritz feels pushed away, but soon discovers his agricultural experience offers alternative options.

- A single shot out of the blue leaves groom Stefan unconscious, bleeding from a head wound in the forest. It takes an hour until Joseph and Wolfgang find him and get him hospitalized, but luckily there is no lasting damage. Indignant newcomer Bachhofer waves Wolfgang's insinuation that his gun collection fits the ammo used. Josef helps recovering Stefan investigate whether there's a connection with apparent hare poaching.
- Stefan is puzzled when a local forest exploiter refuses to sell a tract for a great price because it's 'not his to dispose of'. It turns out Marianne's late husband Franz's illegitimate son's education was paid from its proceeds, and now he's famous he wants to buy it. Stefan's brat daughter brought a 'stray' deer calf home, and returning it to the mother is problematic as the crucial scent has been wrecked.
- The Leitner family must adapt now baby Lucas and his mother arrive from hospital. Only Daniel isn't jealous of all the attention given to the youngest sibling, the girls however turn away indignant. On top of extra chores, Daniels volunteers to earn enough for a driving course by taking daily meteorological measurements. However an opportunity to driver mate Kurt's absent big brother's cool car is irresistible, Stefan finds out and cancels the deal. Curate Ambrose agrees to organize Stefan's third attempt to marry in secret, with a hot air balloon.
- Now Stefan is fully recovered, the church is booked again to prevent baby Likas being born out of wedlock, but during the service he decides otherwise. Daniel is atypically silent, seemingly uninterested, while the girls shirk the inevitable extra domestic chores. Stefan helps the small farmer who accidentally shot him with trouble over the sale, for lack of other assets, of his drought horse to a rich neighbor, who claims it's no good.
- Daniel surprises everyone by earning the fee for his driver's license by mucking out cattle stables for a grumpy farmer. A storm causes lots of work in the forest tracts. Old Breitkreuz breaks a leg when knocked off his ladder by the impatient aforementioned farmer's tractor, which Daniel works out. Stefan seeks to prevent hospitalized Breitkreuz being fired by Bachhofer.
- Daniel's former girlfriend Vanessa (16) suddenly moves into the youth hostel, pregnant. After speculations and tension about paternity, she admits he's not the father but the only boyfriend she can trust. To Stefan's surprise, the charms of the mayoress, who further neglects her family, seem to persuade Max Bachhofer to withdraw his plans for construction on a forest tract. Instead he proposes to donate it for a nature reserve, provided Stefan and two other farmers throw in their neighboring parcels. The Lietner family counsel accepts.
- The village shivers due to an enterprising youth campaign against drunk driving after a bad accident. Daniel finally has saved up for his driver's lessons, but the chilling image of his sister nearly killed makes him loose his calm, so Stefan builds his confidence up again. Tailing a fox to his hole leads Stefan to the spot where the debris from Bachhofer's villa renovation must have been illegally dumped. The schemer denies and manages to sell that piece of land with 10 years usufruct, creating a legal accountability quagmire. Josef thinks he stumbled on Wolfgang having an affair in Passau, but it's just tango lessons.
- Stefan's staff must map and fight a plague of beetles, but a grumpy farmer misuses the traps. While Daniel is on model behavior, his brat sister Jenny exhausts Stefan's patience by letting her grades slip, party every night and be caught with drugs. Curate Ambrose presents her to former addict Björn, crippled for life. Josef minds a retired cop's sniffer dog, so Wolfgang concocts lucrative schemes, and discovers he can actually smell the pest beetle. Anna tells Markus she's renouncing another mayoral term, not why, but the tension remains, so she ends up confessing her adultery with Bachofer.
- Stefan discovers beaver activity requiring tree-protection and must tread carefully when a valuable natural wood oddity goes missing, only to be discretely returned. Daniel is not amused when pressed to be there for Vanessa, but Stefan accidentally discovers her father and finds him far more understanding then she claimed. Wood merchant Markus Rombach is startled when his wife Anna suddenly renounces her plan to stand for another mayoral term, out of guilt over an adulterous night with Max Bachhofer.
- Stefan discovers a maize bug epidemic, proving once more the dangers of monoculture, and works out it spares a single plot in Bachhofer's fields because of genetic manipulation, but fails to keep that secret before protests raise, with Josef and the publican he has a crush on as ringleaders. The Bavaraian ministry supervisor wants Stefan to mediate. He motivates the mayoress to use her romantic influence to make Bachhoofer destroy the field, but the rising marital tension in her household ends with her leaving Stefan's buddy Markus and taking his beloved son David away. Daniel and sister Lizzie get only half heir school trip's fee, provided they raise the rest. Wolfgang is obsessed with finding out how Marianne's goats keep escaping their pen, requiring tiresome mustering from the fields.
- Stefan invites his depressed mate Markus Rombach, who is bitter because wife Anna's adultery was kept from him, to move in with the Leitners for a few days, not expecting he would turn up immediately. So Sonja, who plans to reopen her medical practice, wasn't even told and finds Marcus a rather demanding guest. Max Bachhofer engaged a new personal assistant to help organize a posh 'pheasant battue' for business relations. Stefan is expected to keep the peace and implores the hostile villagers to provide the required beaters, but only Josef can convince them by devising a vile plot, which even causes the accident Stefan tried to prevent. Stefan and his dog distract young David, who misses daddy Marcus as much as the other way around.
- Stefan educates the local farmers about how to react to the rising bio-gas-plants' lucrative demand for cereal growers byproducts. After a towel-down incident, Marcus realizes he's overstaying his welcome and moves out of the Leitner home, clearing the way for Sonja to prepare for her medical praxis reopening, while Marianne volunteers to mind the girls regularly. Finding a list of 'things to do', Wolfgang assumes it's buddy Joseph's and organizes one item, a dangerous ride with an agricultural machine, ignoring the actual list author.
- Stefan gets fed up with Sonya's unwillingness to have sex months after Lucas's birth but the real shock is her ultimate confessions he's not the biological father. A wounded buzzard proves meanly aggressive. Curate Ambrose makes Wolfgang pay in charitable kind for the next listed dream, a macho motorbike ride.
- Stefan is starting to deal with the shock that little Lucas isn't his biological son, but unlike him Sonya won't put their kids first and decides cowardly to move, even sees a buyer for her practice behind his back. Stefan must concentrate first on a Czech gang of dog-nappers after his trusted Sina becomes their latest victim right under his eyes while inaugurating the village's new horse riding course. Wolfgang struggles to find enough courage for Josef's extra-list dream, a parachute jump. To Stefan's horror, Sonya left him and took the children with her to a Passau house, even unwilling Daniel.
