He outrides her to the doctor's, who is also the deputy sheriff, and assaulting him, dons his clothes, and when Leone arrives, poses as the doctor. He accompanies her en route for the sick man's home, but does not go far before making his advances. Dismounting and forcing her into his arms, he imprints a kiss on her powerless lips, but is soon repelled by Leone's eyes. It is the first time the gambler has seen the eyes of a good woman since youth. His conscience is awakened. Meanwhile the deputy sheriff and real doctor has regained his senses and with a posse gives chase and captures Jim. They take him to the sheriff's house, where at first the old man is inclined to take the law into his own hands. But when the gambler makes himself known as his own son and begs his sister's forgiveness, the sheriff leads him into the house and explains to the boys that he will decide on proper punishment later. Having gained his father's forgiveness, the wayward son cares not what punishment the boys might exact.

On his way he meets Slim and sees him trading his horse for the Bungleville Bugle. On hearing that the editor has left town without paying his debts, the citizens' wrath is aroused and they vow to hang the next editor who hits town. Slim takes possession and is confronted by the many creditors, who agreed to allow him 30 days to pay the former editor's debts. He employs Molly as Society Editor. The 30 days are almost up and business is dull. Molly inserts a sign on the door of the Bungleville Bugle that coupons will be issued in the paper, and at the end of a certain length of time, the one holding the most wins her as his bride. Business begins to boom. The cowboys spend all their money in order to get the most coupons. On the day that the votes are to be counted Molly leaves for lunch, promising to return at 1:00. On her way home, however, she meets a traveling man and an instant mutual attachment springs up. Before Molly realizes it, the clock is striking five. She remembers and tells the traveling man about the scheme. They finally agree to get married, and to jolly the boys along, Molly sends a note to the newspaper office that she is waiting at the church. They all make a beeline for the church, only to find that she has just married another.
- Scotty's only daughter, Ethel, was becoming gradually blind. Doctors made an examination, and concluded that an operation was necessary to save the girl's sight, the cost of which would be two hundred dollars. Scotty had not the required sum and to make things worse, lost his job at the factory. At this state of affairs, Scotty, determined to save Ethel from a bitter life, set out into the world to find work. His wanderings led him to an oil well, where a goodly foreman pressed him into service. It was not long before Scotty was sent out on a special job near the wells. Meanwhile, the foreman's little girl had started from her mother's side and wandered to dangerous ground near a cliff. Scotty saw the little one and risked his own life to rescue her. He climbed the treacherous precipice and carried the child safely to the wells. His heroic act was witnessed by the frantic mother through a surveying instrument. At the wells Scotty fell, exhausted, and was carried to the foreman's house. On regaining consciousness he told of his own little girl back home becoming more and more blind every day, and to save whom he was struggling. His tale struck deep into the hearts of the men, all of whom had witnessed his valiant deed. It was voted to lake a collection, and, with the foreman as the largest contributor, Scotty was enabled to save his daughter from a calamity shortly worse death.

- John Miller is cashier of a bank and his son Ray a trusted employee and in love with the bank president's daughter Edith. Miller loses heavily on the horse races; not wishing to mortgage his home, he fails to enter a deposit in the bank records, using the money for a final plunge on the races, hoping to recuperate all his former losses--but he loses again. Ray discovers the shortage and to spare his parents humiliation, leaves a note at the bank saying that he took the money, and goes West. All believe Ray took the money except Edith, whose faith in him proves stronger than expected. Knowing Miller to be a gambler, she suspects him, accuses him, and finally wrings from him a confession of the truth. Miller gives a mortgage on his home to cover the loss, and Edith starts west in search of her noble lover. In the West Ray has turned cowboy. A handsome reward is offered for the capture of a dangerous bandit. Ray gets on his trail and "covers" him, just as the bandit is holding up the stagecoach. On that coach is Edith. Ray gets his reward, then the happy lovers return, pay off the mortgage, and receive the blessings of all.

One of her daily duties is to accompany Doris Fletcher horseback riding, and on many occasions they have taken particular notice of John Scott, a woodman, whose gallantry appealed to them. After exchanging the usual pleasantries with him one morning the girls ride on, only to be attacked by highwaymen. Doris is overcome while Ann shouts for help. John comes and the highwaymen flee. He carries Doris into his humble cottage and administers what aid he can. Meanwhile some of the cowboys have heard the cry and question Anne. She tells of the attack, and they hasten in the direction the bandits took. John knowing well what they meant to do, hastens after them and arrives in time to prevent the mob from taking the law into its own hands by lynching the culprits. He holds the mob at bay with his revolver until the arrival of the sheriff and his men. Ann hears and knows that here at last is a man worthwhile. A month later John has learned to love and propose to Anne. After the marriage he takes her to his little cabin expecting to enjoy the rest of his days there, but Anne tells of her great wealth and of her search for a man worthwhile, that led her to deceive in order to win, to "stoop to conquer."
