Ethel Clayton, her siblings, and suitor Warner Richmond leave Massachussetts, where the pickings are slim, to seek a new life in the west. But life is hard, and one evening, House Peters and his bad, drunk companions kidnap Miss Clayton. Peters buys his companions' "share" in Miss Clayton, and they come to an arrangement: they will be married, but consummation will be dependent on his good behavior and changed character. Then one night, he comes home drunk.
It's a highly melodramatic story, but the performers are good, if florid, and there is some lovely location shooting in New Mexico and Arizona, with the Grad Canyon offering a grand backdrop to the acting. Interior set decoration is realistic and a bit ugly. The camerawork is stolid, and the editing rate is rapid for the era; there is one moving shot to conclude the story.
