Old Love for New (1918) - Lost Silent
PamelaShort14 February 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Worried about her shrinking bank account, society matron Mrs. Alcot ( Blanche Gray ) forces her daughter Gwendolyn ( Margery Wilson ) to marry Harvey Marton, Jr. ( Lee Hill ), the son of a wealthy New York banker. Gwen and Harvey live a impulsive and luxurious life until Harvey, Sr. ( George Pearce ) orders his son either to earn his own living or be disinherited. The couple consequently goes West, where Harvey, unaccustomed to the rugged surroundings, becomes the butt of the cowboys' practical jokes. Disgusted, Gwen flirts with Jerry Marquis ( Pete Morrison ), who seizes her roughly in his arms and knocks the outraged Harvey senseless. Determined to prove himself, Harvey takes boxing lessons and soundly conquers Jerry in a fight, thus winning Gwen's love and admiration.

Old Love for New starred the amazingly accomplished Margery Wilson, who by the time she was in her late twenties completed her work as a film director. Her wide range of activities included film actress, producer, scenario writer, screenwriter, speech coach, theatre actress, and writer. She died in 1986 at the age of eighty-nine. Sadly this silent film is lost.
