When Royal Canadian Mounted Policeman MacDonald catches Pierre, an Indian working for counterfeiters, transporting counterfeit money stuffed in a trout, Pierre kills him, and Sergeant Renfrew is sent to investigate. He intercepts Virginia Bronson, who is being guided by Pierre to meet her father James, an expert counterfeiter recently released from prison, at the Totem Pole Lodge. Unknown to Virginia, James has been coerced into making counterfeit bills by lodge owner George Poulis. Virginia escapes from Renfrew and returns with the Indian, arriving at the lodge at the same time as Renfrew, who clashed with Poulis' men and afterward crashed an airplane nearby. After chasing a truck that leaves the lodge, Renfrew discovers the counterfeit money is being transferred within frozen rainbow trout. When Virginia discovers her father is working as a counterfeiter, she is distressed, and after encouragement from Dreamy, one of Poulis' thugs, she and her father attempt to escape. They are caught by Poulis and Angel, another thug, however, and Dreamy is killed. Poulis leads Renfrew to the counterfeit operation, intending to kill him, but after a struggle and a gunfight, Renfrew bests Poulis. After the Bronsons are rescued from being trapped in a meat-locker, Renfrew assures them that James will not be arrested due to his requests for help inscribed on the counterfeit bills, which proved his innocence.
