- Michele Morestan: What kind of a woman is that Natalie Roguin?
- Andre Morestan: I'm not permitted to discuss the case with members of my family.
- Michele Morestan: It can't be much, probably mixed up with that sort of thing.
- Andre Morestan: People shouldn't condemn what they don't know.
- Michele Morestan: I heard about her in the market place today and they say she's not a nice girl.
- Andre Morestan: The marketplace, the marketplace, new court of justice. Tomorrow we'll move the judges down among the food and vegetables and settle the case there.
- Andre Morestan: That's what's wrong with everybody. People talk and people yell; but, do they ever think?
- Francois Morestan: You know what's the matter with you Pierre, you have no romance!
- Michele Morestan: Now, now, now, children, it's a little too late for that.
- Francois Morestan: But, it's true, Mother. What does he see when he looks through his telescope? A lot of stars. When I look up, I see love!
- Henri Lurette: Natalie Roguin, the French father and her Hungarian mother. Then, there's something about the job she's had that might prove something. Waitress. Cashier. Manicurist. Model. I wonder why she wasn't ever a nurse or a school teacher?
- Andre Morestan: Why weren't you ever a ballet dancer?
- Robert LaCoste: What goes on behind those deep, dark eyes of yours? I'd like to find out one of these days - or, eh, nights. What's the matter?
- Natalie Roguin: What would Françoise say about this curiosity?
- Robert LaCoste: Oh, we can worry about that some other time. We can always say that I'm teaching you how to dance.
- Natalie Roguin: I know how to dance.
- Michele Morestan: He never winked at me.
- Andre Morestan: How do you know? You didn't see him. I was watching him.
- Michele Morestan: I'm sure he only wanted to talk to you about his bicycle. He must have winked at you.
- Andre Morestan: Well, I don't want him to wink at me!
- Andre Morestan: When the Republic calls, we must all answer.
- Henri Lurette: This is the first time for you I suppose?
- Andre Morestan: Yes, yes. I've waited for 27 years for the chance to be called as a juror. Have you served before?
- Henri Lurette: Yes, yes. The Bluebeard case.
- Andre Morestan: Oh yes, I remember reading about that - a man who killed his wife, wasn't it?
- Henri Lurette: One wife? Four!
- Andre Morestan: Oh - that must have been quite a case!
- Henri Lurette: Yes, only he didn't kill them.
- Andre Morestan: Hmmm?
- Henri Lurette: Later, I figured it out that he was innocent.
- Andre Morestan: Later?
- Henri Lurette: After he was executed.
- Michele Morestan: I don't want you to go to trials. If your father wants to associate with criminals, let him; but not you.
- Andre Morestan: Tell your mother that a juror associates with the police, not with criminals.
- Robert LaCoste: How are you my little sweetheart? You never came over for those private instructions in the evening?
- Natalie Roguin: I told you I didn't have the time.
- Robert LaCoste: Oh, that's a pity. We could have had a lot of fun together.
- Francois Morestan: You know how dull it would be to ride on a tandem alone.
- Fat Boy: Yes, it's very dull.
- Racist Juror: I don't like that she's mixed up with that Hungarian bunch.
- Natalie Roguin: It was in the street. It was raining that night. I had no place to go. I was just walking along. He approached me.
- President: You're quite used to that sort of thing, aren't you?
- Natalie Roguin: Oh, no.
- Natalie Roguin: This is your room isn't it?
- Pierre Morestan: Yes.
- Natalie Roguin: I hope you don't hate me for putting you out of it.
- Pierre Morestan: Oh, wait. Don't go Natalie, please. Well, before you go, wouldn't you like to see Venus?
- Natalie Roguin: Yes.
- Pierre Morestan: Here.
- [Natalie looks through the telescope, leaning back on Pierre]
- Pierre Morestan: You can never mistake Venus because of its surpassing brilliance. When the ancient Greeks saw the planet in the western sky, they named it Callisto, meaning the most beautiful. A name which fits it very well.
