Up to now, all of Bugs Bunny's cartoons had been released under the "Merrie Melodies" banner; this is the first Bugs cartoon to be released under "Looney Tunes".
This is also the first Bugs Bunny cartoon to feature the Warner Bros. shield transforming into his head during the intro. (Unlike the Porky head in the earlier "Brother Brat" and the Daffy head in the later "Plane Daffy", the Bugs head doesn't stay on screen for the Looney Tunes card in this cartoon.)
Starting with "Hare Trigger", intros would later revert to the version of "reclining Bugs" seen in "The Heckling Hare" before permanently adopting the Bugs head in 1948.

Red Hot Ryder is a mix of Red Skelton's radio characters 'Sheriff Deadeye' and 'Clem Kiddlehopper' with catchphrases "Whoa horse! Come on horse whoa!" and "Here I am".
All of the items Bugs is carrying after his "robbery" (meat, butter, sugar, coffee, rubber, leather, canned goods) were being rationed at the time of this short's release.
Red Hot Ryder is a spoof of the Western hero Red Ryder, and his image was based on that of the man who had played Red Ryder in the serial, Don 'Red' Barry.
