Plot: A wealthy self-made man , who owns a flour-milling , rebels against his daughter Silvana 's marriage to Olivero , a fisherman ,because "I've not slaved my life away to give bread to the poor ". His foreman Toucas rapes the unfortunate girl who's soon pregnant by him ; but the treacherous man accuses Olivero ,now sailing away on a trawler. In desesperation , the selfish rich man marries Silvana to Toucas .....

A good cast including the Lulli bros (only Folco made an international career) plus two French veterans :Charles Vanel as the ruthless authoritarian father and Gabrielle Fontan as Olivero's poor mother .

Closer to melodrama than to neo realism school ,and reminding the French of Marcel Pagnol' s plots .Folco Lulli 's character recalls Fernandel's roles: the ugly boy nobody likes who longs to be loved ; but whilst Fernandel portrayed good guys , Lulli is obsessed by Silvana's legs (close shots) and takes the plunge : he rapes the girl in a scene which would not be out of place in film noir: the ceaseless thumping machine adds to the horror of the situation.

But even though he has married his boss's daughter,Tacos remains a laughing stock for the workers who know that Silvana does not want to share his bed anymore ;full of sudden new developments , the ending is guaranteed to have the audience tearing through an entire box of kleenex :Gabrielle Fontan's final words on her death bed would not be out of place in a Douglas Sirk 's flamboyant melodrama. Vanel, along with Folco Lulli dominates the cast.
