Quotes

  • Jungle Jim : And you say no one knows who she is or where she came from?

Reverend E.R. Holcom : Ever hear of Mr. and Mrs. John Martindale?

Jungle Jim : Archaeologists, weren't they?

Chief Mahala : They disappeared many years ago while on an exhibition up Lake Makongi. They were seeking the Lagoon of the Dead.

Jungle Jim : Lagoon of the Dead?

Chief Mahala : The ancient sacrificial lake of the witch doctors. It is a secret place, known only to them.

  • Reverend E.R. Holcom : So that's the situation, Jim. I realize you're not familiar with this district, but you are a man of the jungle. If anyone can find that girl, I'm sure you can.

Jungle Jim : How far is your village, Mahala?

Chief Mahala : It is only a day's journey. We can leave first thing in the morning.

Jungle Jim : Why wait until morning?

  • [discussing a blonde woman seen roaming the jungle with a tiger]

Jungle Jim : And you say no one knows where she came from?

Chief Mahala : That is right, Jim. My people call her the Wild Girl of Lake Makongi.

Reverend E.R. Holcom : They say she lives deep in the jungle, somewhere along the upper reaches of the lake. Strange stories are told of her amazing animal-like ability and her friendship with a tiger that follows her like a great dog. For some years now, she's been roaming the trackless wilderness, as wild and untamed as the jungle creatures who share her untamed life.

Jungle Jim : Have you ever seen her?

Reverend E.R. Holcom : No, but I've talked with natives who have - trustworthy natives who visit my mission and assure me she really does exist. Oddly, she never molests the common villagers but only attacks the witch men of the tribe, particularly against their chief medicine man, Hakeem, and from all accounts for years Hakeem has really been grimly determined to get rid of her but so far, his efforts have all ended in failure.
