the genius of Eduardo
frizzi8013 November 2004
"adda passa a nuttat"... how could I translate it? it is napoletan and it has a figurative mean. well you know when something very bad occurs, you don't see any way to escape from and you only consolation is to wait and go through it... that is it! the motto of this movie, the motto of an entire city and its multi face history seen by the picture of Jovine family. a family from the basso the filthy poorly and crowdy blocks in Naples whereby the sun never rise and the life is ten times more intense than normal. this movie is based one of the most brilliant De Filippo's play and celebrates, beside the genius of Eduardo, the extraordinary acting skills of Toto, the most underrated actor in the world (luckily not in Italy and especially in Naples). It is a must for every good movie collection.

Magnificent!

This is the greatest play by the Great Italian playwright, director and author Edoardo de Filippo. It combines drama, humour, the description of post-war Naples and the dynamics of a family in a unique and masterful way. To see Edoardo in person on stage was always a major treat. This movie is a fitting tribute to one of Italy's national treasures.
