The Turkish kaiser of the original folk tale was replaced with a generic European king for this cartoon. The prince visiting the kingdom was also invented for this film.
Though Hungary has been making animation since the 1910s, this was the country's first fully colored theatrical cartoon that wasn't just a short film or a commercial. It was screened alongside the documentary Gyöngyvirágtól lombhullásig (1953). This market the beginning of Hungary's first animation "generation", before the golden age of the 60s-80s.
