Interiors were shot throughout the U.S. Capitol Building, including the House Chamber, Rotunda, and the subways to the House and Senate office buildings. The production crew was given unprecedented access to the Capitol, greater than any previous film.
This film bombed at the box office, resulting in a loss to MGM of $1,060,000 (over $10.1M in 2019) according to studio records.
The music heard when Johnson and Neal ride a "water taxi" over to the Windjammer Cafe was also used in another 1952 M-G-M movie: It's "All I Do is Dream of You," the same tune Debbie Reynolds and an all girl Chorus perform after Reynolds pops out if a cake in Singin' in the Rain.
