Starring: Richard Boone, Theodore Bikel.

I Bury the Living implicates us in a primal childhood thought-crime… what if you stepped on a crack and really did break your mother’s back? What if simply wishing someone dead made it so? Guilt, pure and simple, gives this off–kilter 50’s chiller its lasting power.
The film boasts an off–kilter leading man as well with the crater-faced Richard Boone as Robert Kraft, a small town business man railroaded into managing the family run cemetery. To make matters worse, the perennially gloomy Kraft, already skittish about his disconcerting new position, is saddled with a decrepit, unnaturally chilly workplace watched over by an unnerving bit of decoration, an...

Tuesday, April 25th boasts an array of diverse Blu-ray and DVD offerings with a great assortment titles both new and old. Lionsgate is releasing one of the best zombie films I’ve seen as of late, The Girl With All the Gifts, on both formats, and the most recent sequel in the Underworld franchise, Blood Wars, arrives this week on 4K Blu-ray, as well as the typical Blu and DVD discs, too.
Scream Factory is resurrecting both The Screaming Skull and I Bury the Living on Blu this Tuesday, and Arrow Video has put together a fantastic 2-Disc Special Edition set for Caltiki The Immortal Monster that fans definitely will want to pick up.
Other notable titles coming home on April 25th include a special edition release of The Vampire Bat, Mean Dreams, Detour, From Hell It Came, and Psycho Cop Returns.

Though Scream Factory originally made their name by releasing comprehensive special editions of beloved horror titles and some lesser-known cult films deserving reappraisal, after five years the company is diversifying their output more and more. They struck an exclusive deal to release IFC Midnight titles, they’ve picked up a few films and put them out under the “Scream Factory” imprint, and have even developed and produced their very first original feature, Mark Pavia’s Fender Bender, in 2016. In addition to all of this, Scream Factory has begun releasing smaller and lesser-known catalogue titles, nearly bypassing the special features altogether and just giving some older cult titles their high-def debuts. Included in their latest slate of releases is everything from a John Stamos sci-fi action film (Never Too Young to Die) to an unofficial Troll sequel. Let’s take a look at four of these catalogue titles—The Screaming Skull,...

Scream Factory is wishing cult horror film fans a very happy holiday season by announcing five obscure genre titles they plan to release on Blu-ray in 2017.
On Facebook, Scream Factory announced that in the spring / summer of 2017, they plan on releasing Blu-rays of Invasion of the Bee Girls (1973), The Vampire (1957), 1993's Contamination .7 (aka The Crawlers), I Bury the Living (1958), and The Naked Cage (1986).
The five selected titles came from an online vote Scream Factory conducted earlier this year when they let fans know which movies they had rights to and asked them which ones they'd like to see released on Blu-ray. You can read the official announcement below, and we'll be sure to keep Daily Dead readers updated on further release details as they are revealed.

The seemingly endless supplies of candy that come with Halloween are always a highlight of the holiday, but one of the sweetest treats for horror fans this time of year is Scream Factory's announcement of upcoming Blu-ray releases. This year is no exception, as Scream Factory has revealed ten new Blu-ray releases due out in 2017, including a Firestarter Collector's Edition, Deadtime Stories, The Screaming Skull, 1998's Psycho, Tales From the Hood, and more.
From Scream Factory: "Okay by now you know we couldn’t let this day go by without some title announcements right? ;-) Here’s some treats to look forward to on Blu-ray in 2017:
- Tales From The Hood (1995) – The often-requested anthology film (Executive Producer by Spike Lee!) will finally make its Blu-ray format debut.

I’m a big fan of horror comedy. It’s a combination that isn’t easy to get right, but when it is done well it can be hilarious. A couple of my favorite horror comedies in recent years include The Cabin in the Woods, Tucker Dale Vs. Evil, and Hell Baby. Horror comedies have been around forever, though, and I had to include one of them in the 1950s horror movie column that I’ve been writing this month for Halloween.
The next film on my list is the 1959 film The Headless Ghost. The story follows three college students, two Americans and a girl from Denmark, who take a day trip from London to visit an old English castle called Ambrose Castle. The three students hide in the castle after it is closed to see if the legends of the ghosts they heard about were real. There they find the headless ghost.

The Ghost of Yotsuya is required viewing material for anyone who loves horror films. It tells a legendary eerie tale of betrayal, murder, and ghostly revenge! It’s one of the most famous Japanese ghosts stories of all time and was a huge influence on the Japanese horror films that we see today.
The story is based on the 1825 play Tōkaidō Yotsuya Kaidan, which was written by Tsuruya Nanboku IV. The basic premise of the story follows a woman who haunts her husband after she dies a miserable death.
A ruthless samurai named Iemon Tamiya wants to marry a woman named Iwa, but after her father refuses, “Iemon kills him and disposes of the body with assistance of Naosuke. Later, tiring of his wife and wishing to marry the heiress Ume Itō, Iemon plots to murder his wife by mixing a poison into her tea and also killing her admirer Takuetsu.

Bill Engvall has made folks laugh for decades, so it may come as a surprise that he induces scares instead of smiles in his role as the unsettling antagonist next door in Marcus Dunstan’s The Neighbor. With the film coming out on DVD September 6th from Anchor Bay Entertainment, Fortress Features, and Salt Company International Production, as well as VOD from Starz Digital, I recently had the opportunity to speak with Engvall, who discussed growing up with a fondness for the horror genre and Vincent Price, playing a charming character with a dark side, working with Dunstan and Josh Stewart, and much more.
Congratulations on the film, Bill. It was great to see you play a darker role in a film like The Neighbor, so kudos to you and the whole team for putting this together.

For the week of Thanksgiving, there aren’t a lot of horror and sci-fi titles being released on DVD and Blu-ray, but the ones that are making their home debuts are a fun assortment of cult classics and new indie horror flicks. The Mystery Science Theater gang is getting a brand new Collector’s Edition box set from the good folks over at Shout! Factory, and the original Nazi zombies from Shock Waves are making their high-def debut this week as well. We’ve also got a handful of Blumhouse/Universal titles coming our way- Mercy, Mockingbird and Stretch- and Scorpion Releasing is giving fans a chance to own the Roger Corman produced remake of The Masque of the Red Death too.

Movies from the “golden age” of black and white films (approximately the 1930’s through the 1950’s) almost invariably contain well-written dialogue and strikingly subtle humor, making them a favorite among many fans of cinema. The horror movies of this more subtle period in film history are therefore of a cerebral nature, primarily relying on the viewer’s imagination to generate the true sense of horror that modern movies generate through more visual means. It is these oft-ignored horror movies that will be the focus of a series of articles detailing the reasons why true fans of horror movies should rediscover these films.
With this 6th installment in the Forgotten B&W Horror series, we take a look at a little known movie with a couple of interesting twists.
