Touching, realistic film about a love among the working classes
meitschi20 August 2000
The film takes place in Budapest in the 1930s. The main character, a young girl, has to worry for her workplace because so many people have become unemployed due to the economy crisis. She meets one of them, a man who lives in a small cabin. They immediately fall in love but their relationship is doomed: the girl is tented by the promise of a better life if she becomes her boss' girlfriend...

Realistic view of 1930s working class life in Hungary, a touching story, great performances. It struck me especially that the main characters' sexual relationship was shown quite openly - at least compared to other films of the 1950s.
