The film was made in a time when Technicolor was just introduced in Indian filmmaking. A trend was popular those days in which some important or dramatic scenes would be shot in colour and the rest in black-and-white. In this film, the title track "Chaudhvin Ka Chand Ho" and "Dil Ki Kahani Rang Layi Hai" song sequences got this chance.
After Kagaaz Ke Phool, Guru Dutt was in his office with his associates. Guru Dutt was thinking what next film should he make ? Then he remembers, he opens his draw, he takes pulls out a file which had a script and he had kept inside his draw for many years. For many years he wants to make that film but he always says next time. But now he thinks the time has come to make this light muslim social script into a film. He told M.Sadik, that he will direct Chaudhvin Ka Chand.
With Kaagaz Ki Phool he decided to quit direction. He decided his future projects will be directed by others directors.
Only the tittle song was shot in Colour.
The song "Chaudhvin Ka Chand" was sampled in the international song "MY G" by ALI THE SON OF ABDUL from the album RAJA.
