It's the final entry in Wesley's top 100 Christmas TV episodes of all time list, numbers 20 to 1. Merry Christmas to all!
Read entries 100 - 81 here, entries 80 - 61 here, entries 60 - 41 here, and entries 40 - 21 here.
Since the medium’s infancy, viewers have enjoyed sharing holidays with their favourite television characters. We grow invested in our friends on screen over the years; spending Christmas with them is a rite of passage, a chance for us to share tradition from our world with the fictional ones we see on screen. Some shows embrace the season wholeheartedly, characters in good spirits and enjoying the trappings of the season; others skew a little darker, bringing the more oppressive, burdensome side of the holidays to life. Either way, Christmas episodes tend to demonstrate the strengths of our favourite series, and it’s long been a festive ritual of mine to wheel out old...

Is Christmas really Christmas without sitting at a dinner table with your family, feeding the brussel sprouts on your dog and wondering who on earth makes up the jokes that you get in your Christmas cracker?
The majority of them are so bad that you can’t imagine anyone in the world would find them funny, but are they supposed to be bad or can no one think of any decent Christmas related jokes anymore?
15. Even Santa Has Favourites
Who is Santa’s favourite singer?
Elf-is Presley!

Ever dreamed of dining at Hogwarts' Great Hall, surrounded by your best friends as you sip on a butterbeer? Dream no longer, because Warner Bros. Studio Tour London can make that happen for you.
Opening up its very big doors - probably made of some sort of magical wood - from December 3 this year, the tourist attraction has announced its "first ever festive feast" for adult fans of Jk Rowling's stories.
Yes, that's right, this is for over 18s, so don't go thinking you can bring your little brother along to this one: this Potter experience is for muggles of a certain age only.
As well as the usual drinks and canapés you'd expect, you'll also find a wand at your dining table, with the whole venue redressed in the appropriate seasonal garb using real props from Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.
After a two-course dinner, you'll get...

Inherent Vice opens with an eyesore. Off in the distance we see the lazy rolling waves of Gordita Beach. Going through the postcard-worthy motions of a quiet California night, the water is framed for us between complimenting rental homes. It’s a straight shot to the surf, if you can ignore the six-inch thick fence dividing the neighbors as it stretches from sidewalk to sand. Like many of the classic L.A.-based noirs that it’s ostensibly following the footsteps of, Inherent Vice’s plot is all about real estate and property. But as a crime story, the messy and marvelous new feature from Paul Thomas Anderson is less concerned with folks being rubbed out than it is with the ones getting squeezed out.
Inherent Vice is a great L.A. film that nonetheless resists making the city, or its warped version of it, the star. The claustrophobia instilled...

(Warning: this article contains spoilers for several H.P. Lovecraft stories and also contains material that may upset the balance of your sanity. "Tekeli-li! Tekeli-li!")
Dear readers, I am writing this under an appreciable mental strain since by tonight I may be no more. The end is near and soon will come the oblivion which is my only refuge from the unnamed and unnameable. Hallowmas has arrived and I hear the howling from that awful reef, the horrible croaking voices and the slippery bodies lumbering against the door.
The nauseous fishy odour seems to have mounted suddenly, the shrill whippoorwills have burst into a kind of pandaemoniac cachinnation which fills the countryside and I am certain that everything is coming to a head. Or, at least, a gibbering mockery of a head.

Although David Brent will always choose highly unorthodox means when expressing himself, it is difficult to entirely disagree with the overall sentiment of his message. Yes, the sheer audacity of placing John Sessions on a higher pedestal than Albert Einstein is pretty ludicrous – but it is undeniable that comedy performers are given far less credit than they warrant.
The British comedy scene has delivered in producing decades of exceptionally high quality, well-written and original TV shows – with fantastic replay value. Sure, the UK also dispersed On the Buses on to our screens with no pre-warning about how feeble the sitcom’s attempt at comedy was actually going to be – but you’re not always going to pull a Christmas cracker and get the cool yo-yo, sometimes you will end up with that plastic whistle that doesn’t work properly. That is just the nature of life.

Sometimes, some of us Doctor Who aficionados are an ungrateful bunch. After spending more than a decade in the wilderness, the programme was brought back into the fold and welcomed with open arms and critical acclaim. And yet, from time to time, us fans just can't resist the odd grumble when things don't quite go our way. Me myself, I'm guilty as charged – if the era of Russell T Davies was, by and large, very much to my liking (albeit with one or two scowls), the last couple of years haven't thrilled me so much. A good chunk of my last few reviews, in particular, have read like the frenzied burblings of Victor Meldrew.
Which kind of makes me feel a bit sad. I tuned into the behind-the-scenes documentary of the last story, The Time Of The Doctor, and evidently, everyone was giving it 110% to make Matt Smith go out with a bang.

Yes, yes, January is a fresh start, but it also means going back to school or work, long nights with no more promises of presents, and things getting even colder than they already have been. Unsurprisingly, it's about now that we fancy finding someone to cuddle up with.
And what better place to do that than the set of Take Me Out, which returns on Saturday? As Paddy told us, the show's already produced two weddings, two babies and an engagement. So we braved the overpowering scent of hairspray, took a sneaky look at the back of the love lift, cowered at the thought of walking down the stupidly steep steps in heels and marvelled at the canopy erected to protect the girls' hair and makeup on the short trip from the dressing rooms to the studio and decided that actually we'd quite like a go too please.

These scratchy recordings reveal the lonely man behind the public bravado – and the drive that made the great man such an original talent
"Was he putting me on, was he joking?" In Radio 4's The Lost Tapes Of Orson Welles, director Henry Jaglom offered up highlights from his private archive of recordings, made during a series of lunches he and Welles had in La's Ma Maison restaurant between 1983 and 1985.
Unlike so many celebrity interviews we get to hear today, these scratchy tapes are unfiltered by the pressures of public performance – neither party thought they'd be broadcast. Welles is still the great raconteur – but he's also bitter, holding grudges against Hollywood and old colleagues; a wind-up merchant whose spur-of-the-moment rants (Irish-Americans: "They've become a new and terrible race") are met with genuine amazement from the patient Jaglom ("I can't believe you said that Orson!"). The Time Of The Doctor is the title of this year's Doctor Who Christmas Special. More details ahead...
The title of Matt Smith's farewell episode, airing on the 25th of December 2013, is The Time of the Doctor. Here's the official synopsis:
"Orbiting a quiet backwater planet, the massed forces of the universe's deadliest species gather, drawn to a mysterious message that echoes out to the stars. And amongst them – the Doctor. Screenwriter of British horror feature films such as The Asphyx and Mumsy, Nanny, Sonny and Girly
Brian Comport, who has died aged 74, was the screenwriter for the cult films Mumsy, Nanny, Sonny and Girly (1970), The Fiend (1972) and The Asphyx (1973). Like so many others working in the British film industry during the last half century, he had ups and downs, but the horror feature films he wrote are widely regarded as classics of the genre.
His break into films came in 1967 when he was introduced to Norman Cohen, a film editor on his way to becoming a very successful director, who had acquired the film rights to Geoffrey Fletcher's delightful 1962 book The London Nobody Knows.
Cohen had secured James Mason to narrate the commentary, and Brian was engaged to provide the words. It was Brian's idea to have Mason walk and talk directly to the camera, making the film a...

It might be series 11 and it might be a dodgy-looking lineup (some bloke from Casualty and Tony Jacklin - seriously?), but there's still something special and exciting about the return of Strictly Come Dancing to Saturday nights.
From the moment Bruce Forsyth delivers his first absolute clanger of a gag (Think Glastonbury, think Stone Henge... you'll see the punchline coming a mile off) during Wednesday night's pre-record, I was reassured that series 11 was going to brighten up my Saturdays just like the previous 10.
It doesn't try to be cool, it doesn't Shout About How Great It Is In A Peter Dickson Voice and it doesn't have Sharon Osbourne cackling, but it does ooze warmth and charm, feature a Hairy Biker dressed up like a shiny giant tomato and have Bruno Tonioli bouncing around like Kenneth Williams on a spacehopper.

London, Dec 17(Ani): A 30 million-to-one moment was witnessed at London's Wimbledon track when a trio of greyhounds crossed a finish line at the exact same time, in the third heat of the John White Christmas Cracker.
The three dogs, Murlens Houdini, Lightning Speed and Tinas Luke finished the race within one-hundredth of a second of each other, the Mirror reported.
Even the most sophisticated technology at London's Wimbledon track could not separate them, during the event that was held last Friday.
Gary Matthews, Wimbledon's racing manager, asserted that after announcing the triple dead heat people cheered up as such a moment.

That stunner of a poster up there (or maybe it's a trade ad?) comes from Greenbriar Picture Shows, a blog dedicated primarily (but not exclusively) to Hollywood's golden age. Once or twice a week, John McElwee presents a batch of gorgeous reproductions of movie memorabilia bordered by essays on the production back stories and — this is what makes his angle unique — tales of the distribution and the immediate reception (critically as well as at the box office) of films from the mid-20th century: hits that'd soon be forgotten, flops that'd somehow make their way into the canon, and the perennials, such as Vincente Minnelli's Meet Me in St. Louis (1944). He'll be giving this one an extra-thorough treatment; yesterday's entry is just the first part of a series. It's also a tad more personal than others: "I hesitate calling Meet Me in St. Louis my favorite picture of all time,...

Two Christmases ago, my toddler son Charlie and I sat down together to watch The Gruffalo. Being a soppy fool unfamiliar with the concept of age-appropriate viewing, I'd hoped this would be a magical moment of festive father-son bonding. It didn't go entirely according to plan. A few minutes in, he got a bit spooked by the snake, exclaimed "Don't like it!" and wandered off to ignore his new toys in favour of the boxes they came in.
In the intervening two years, however. Charlie's grown twice the size and Gruffalo mad. He's got the well-thumbed books, well-worn pyjamas, even the ride-along wheeled suitcase in the shape of our terribly-tusked, terribly-clawed friend. So come Christmas Day, we'll be snuggling up on the sofa again to watch the new sequel, The Gruffalo's Child.

The duo, who co-wrote and starred in the hit BBC comedy, performed the track together on Jones's upcoming show Ruth Jones's Christmas Cracker. Jones reprised her role as Nessa - complete with her catchphrase "What's occurring?" - while Corden returned to his character Smithy. The improvised song comes shortly after Jones admitted that she (more)...

David Knight is one of the child entertainers that Amanda Holden has been raving about for weeks.
All of the Britain’s Got Talent judges have commented that they think a youngster will win the 2011 series and judging by their response to nine year old David’s comedy routine, he could be a contender.
The school boy auditioned for Amanda, Michael McIntyre and David Hasselhoff in Birmingham, although things got off to a bad start as the only comedian on the panel almost reduced him to tears.
Before starting the youngster told Ant and Dec:
Today I’m feeling really, really excited because this is just one of the biggest things and the most exciting things I’ve ever done. It will be so amazing to meet Michael McIntyre because he’s one of my favourite comedians.
However, when asked who his favourite comedians are, he quickly answered Harry Hill,...

I used to like doing these graphic tributes back at Den Of Geek, though how I ever went straight past Withnail and I to In Bruges is an oversight that I'm happy to rectify today. The script to Bruce Robinson's 1987 down-at-heel comedy could be printed up in its entirety as a series of best-selling T-shirts, so there's no hope of getting everyone's favourites in. But here are the bon mots most likely to fall out of a Japanese Christmas cracker, if there is such a thing...

The 'Doctor Who' Christmas special is a tradition in my house now - I want to watch it in peace and quiet, Mum falls asleep five minutes in and the snoring is terrible, my brothers - though they have every right to - natter through the whole thing, the dogs won't sit still and I get frustrated because I don't have absolute silence.
This year was different - Mum simply went upstairs for a nap and the dogs were pleasantly quiet, one of my brothers didn't watch because he had a lovely new Wii game and that meant the other one had nobody to talk to. This may sound like a rather miserable Christmas affair to you. To me,...

Jack Black takes centre stage in Gulliver's Travels. But is this a Boxing Day treat, or a massive misfire? Pete finds out...
When I first heard about Gulliver's Travels starring Jack Black, during one of the Orange Wednesday adverts, I assumed it to be a rather amusing joke. The juxtaposition of rent-a-slacker Jack Black with a classic satirical novel made for a hilarious spoof of the way children's films have been headed in recent years.
Imagine my surprise, then, when this turned out to be a real film, out in cinemas this Boxing Day. I tried to reserve judgement. I've seen School of Rock many times, Tenacious D songs Tribute and Wonderboy are regular visitors to my MP3 player, and I even tried to like The Pick of Destiny. As I went into the screening, I was trepidatious - would it turn out to be a Christmas cracker, or a cold,...

Keira Knightley's West End debut tops a host of un-Christmassy openings, but time's running out for La Cage aux Folles
We're getting close to Christmas, but there are a remarkable number of unfestive openings this week. Blithe Spirit in Manchester should – of course – be a spirited production, directed by Sarah Frankcom who recently staged Simon Stephens's Punk Rock. In London, Patrick Hamilton's Rope is at the Almeida, the hugely starry Misanthrope with Keira Knightley and Damian Lewis is at the Comedy, Simon Callow is doing his Dickens turn in Dr Marigold and Mr Chips at Riverside Studios, and there's even an Agatha Christie thriller, A Daughter's Daughter, arriving opportunistically at Trafalgar Studios to fill in for a few weeks. Potted Potter, which is silly, hugely enjoyable fun, is in Studio 2. And even in Christmas week there are openings, with the RSC's Twelfth Night arriving at the Novello,...

For the first time ever, Shakespeare?s Globe will open its doors this Christmas with Footsbarn?s Christmas Cracker.

Let me get one thing out of the way first, I love writer/director Richard Curtis, were I not an actual man (chest hair, pot-belly and all) I’d have his babies! Why? Because I love what the man brings to British cinema!
While I may not enjoy all of his films, I love the fact that Curtis can combine a relatively low budget and a largely British cast and generally create something that, while modest, breaks out into mainstream Hollywood!
Here is the man who made Hugh Grant a star, he turned Rhys Ifans into a household name, he brought us Blackadder, Mr. Bean and The Vicar of Dibley! In short, Richard Curtis has probably done more for British film and television worldwide than any other writer or director had dared dream. With Curtis, the humble British Film Industry can stand strong against the trillion dollar behemoth that is the Hollywood machine.
