Piano Music at its Best

What can we say about Pianissimo?? It is an interesting short film about a piano playing different jolly sad tunes. The consequences of happy music on society?? Pianissimo is a swell beginning.

Not too entertaining

Warning: Spoilers
"Pianissimo" is a 6-minute animated short film from over 50 years ago. For director Carmen D'Avino, it was the first of 2 Oscar-nominated works in a really not too prolific career, at least in terms of filmmaking. This one here lost the Academy Award to Mel Brooks' work from the same year. It is fairly difficult to describe "Pianissimo" accurately. The title already gives away that a piano plays a major role in there. But it's not really a story or a plot, so you could almost call it an experimental movie, especially with the many fairly abstract moments in here. The good thing is that D'Avino found his own way and approach. This is a fairly unique movie. But still I did not like it too much, especially because of the animation style and lack of coherency. That is just subjective though. Go check it out if you want. For me, this film's success is another piece of proof that the 1960s left a lot desired in terms of animated (short) films. Thumbs down.

Music and Color

A little sound/a little visual. Using lots of neutral color, employing the parts of a player piano, this is a decent little film. It has no real plot or direction other than to inundate us with boogie woogie sounds and sensations. I rather enjoyed it.
