Jenna Ortega is heading into production on season 2 of the Addams Family-inspired Netflix series Wednesday and has a prominent role in the long-awaited sequel Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, but she’s no longer a part of two other franchises. After starring in Scream (2022) and Scream VI, she reportedly asked for a substantial pay raise to return for Scream 7, despite knowing that request wouldn’t go over well with the producers at Spyglass Media – and sure enough, Spyglass opted not to bring her back for Scream 7. Now the full trailer for the upcoming Netflix animated series Jurassic World: Chaos Theory – which serves as a follow-up to the animated series Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous – reveals that Ortega’s Camp Cretaceous character Brooklynn has been killed off! You can watch the trailer in the embed above.

My favorite comic strips are the ones where the characters' physicality has no basis in reality. Think of Calvin's untenable head-to-body-size ratio in "Calvin and Hobbes" or how every living creature in "The Far Side" is built like a pillow with sticks for arms and legs. The funny pages, like animation, have no real limits when it comes to the physics of their worlds, so why should their inhabitants be any different?
Charles Addams, in particular, wholly embraced this idea and ran with it while drawing his off-kilter, satirical "Addams Family" comic panels for The New Yorker from the 1930s up until his death in the '80s. The titular clan of ghoulish aristocrats embodied everything that stereotypical white American families did not in the 20th century, which manifested itself in their appearances. The Addamses had preternaturally oblong or round faces and builds. Most notably, the stocky, pale-white Uncle Fester...

In 2022, Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Media revived the Scream franchise with a new entry (the fifth) that was a box office hit, earning almost $139 million at the global box office. Fourteen months later, Scream VI came along – and became an even bigger hit, pulling in almost $169 million at the global box office, a number that was up there with the series’ heyday, when the first Scream and Scream 2 made just over $170 million. (Scream 3 also made over $160 million – only Scream 4 failed to crack $100 million.) So, of course, the companies are moving full steam ahead with Scream 7. While the movie seemed, initially, to be on the fast-track to success, the track it’s on has turned out to be a shockingly bumpy ride.

Even though hardcore Addams Family fans had very low expectations before the show's release, Netflix's Wednesday turned out to be a quality show, being a hilarious horror comedy with enough satire, drama and, needless to say, the supernatural.
And soon, the second season will start its active production phase, so the streaming service is rushing to please us with some intriguing details. So, a year after the renewal, during Tudum in January 2024, it was officially revealed that in addition to Jenna Ortega, the second season will star Emma Myers, Joy Sunday and none other than Hunter Doohan, who appeared in the first season as Tyler Galpin, the son of the local sheriff, the romantic interest of Wednesday and ultimately a threat to Nevermore and all of Jericho, being a dangerous monster Hyde.

After the runaway success of Netflix and Tim Burton’s Addams Family stand-alone series Wednesday starring Jenna Ortega, the streamer renewed it for second season in January 2023. That decision came less than three months after the eight-episode Season 1 premiered, eventually becoming the most-watched original series ever on the streamer ever with more than 252 million views to date, far surpassing Stranger Things‘ Season 4, Dahmer and Season 1 of Bridgerton on the all-time list.
Season 1 ending up scoring 12 Emmy nominations, including for Ortega in Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, becoming just the third Latina to ever be nominated in a leading actress category. The series won four Emmys, though Ortega lost out to Abbott Elementary‘s Quinta Brunson on Emmy night.

Wednesday is completely different from its predecessors, because instead of the traditional story about an eccentric old-money family living in an antebellum mansion and hiding a lot of paranormal secrets, we got a school drama starring goth Jenna Ortega.
But none of this changes the fact that Wednesday turned out to be a great black comedy with enough satire, drama and, of course, the supernatural. After all, the co-executive producer is none other than Tim Burton.
As a result, the show has received rave reviews, high ratings and wins in four Primetime Emmy Award categories. So it's no surprise that Netflix decided to renew it for a second season, which we learned about in January 2023.
A year later, the series is approaching the active production phase, and with that, more and more details are emerging. For example, we recently received word that the new addition to Season 2 will be the legendary Steve Buscemi.

It's not easy to get people to agree about stuff, but I think we can all agree that Steve Buscemi is one of the greats. Buscemi has been kicking around for years, appearing in big movies, small movies, TV shows, and more. He's a wonderful character actor who always heightens whatever material he happens to be attached to. Even if his part is small, you come away remembering what he did. Hell, he shows up as a waiter dressed like Buddy Holly in "Pulp Fiction" for about less than one minute and still steals that moment. He's that good. Whenever Steve Buscemi appears on screen, we all do the Leo point and proclaim, "Hey, 'it's Steve Buscemi!"
And now, he's joining the cast of "Wednesday" season 2. The "Addams Family"-adjacent show stars Jenna Ortega as everyone's favorite miserable young woman, Wednesday Addams. The series, which had episodes helmed by none other than Tim Burton,...

Charles Addams' very first Addams Family comic strip -- or at least a proto-version of the Family -- appeared in the pages of the New Yorker in 1938. In the strip, a vampire-like woman stands next to a large, bearded, brutish man at the foot of a staircase in a haunted mansion. Bats fly overhead and spider webs adorn the light fixtures. A creepy third member of the family peers down through a railing high above. Standing at the door is an eager, white-suited vacuum cleaner salesman attempting to hawk his wares. "Vibrationless, noiseless, and a great time and back saver. No well-appointed home should be without it," the salesman says. He is unperturbed to be in a haunted house, and presses on with his sales pitch, even though the manse has clearly never been swept.
Charles Addams would revisit these creepy characters regularly, eventually settling on a core cast of characters.

Barry Sonnenfeld's 1991 film "The Addams Family," based on the New Yorker comic strips by Chas Addams and extrapolated from the 1964 sitcom of the same name, was a pop culture clarion call for aspiring young goths the world over. The Addams Family were a gaggle of murderous weirds who lived in a haunted mansion, kept a severed human hand as a pet, and regularly engaged in cute family games wherein they exhumed long-dead relatives. They loved blood, sex, and magic. It's possible they were immortal; the young Wednesday (Christina Ricci) regularly murdered her brother Pugsley (Jimmy Workman). Morticia (Anjelica Huston) and Gomez (Raul Julia) were sexually active to an enviable degree, perhaps standing as one of the healthiest, most sex-positive couples in movies at the time. They were full of zest and joie de vivre. Only they were obsessed with death, so perhaps the term should be joie de mourir.

In one of Charles Addams' original Addams Family comic strips for the New Yorker, we see Gomez, the family patriarch, perched by a large window in his sepulchral home, looking out the window. His children and wife are standing near him. Outside the window, an apocalyptic storm is raging. A tree has been stripped of its leaves and a home across the street appears to be blowing over. "Just the kind of day that makes you feel good to be alive!" Gomez comments.
Barry Sonnenfeld's 1991 film version of "The Addams Family" captures that outsider spirit. This iteration of the Addams Family values the gloom that most people eschew, presenting Gomez (Raul Julia) and Morticia (Anjelica Houston) as horny, enthused monsters who you kind of fall in love with.

Before Winona Ryder was known for "Stranger Things," she was known for being "strange and unusual." At least, that's how her character in 1988's "Beetlejuice" put it. The actor would become a goth icon following her role in Tim Burton's 1988 effort, "Beetlejuice," with appearances in "Heathers" (1989), and "Edward Scissorhands" (1990) further cementing her alt-girl status. But there's no doubt "Beetlejuice" was where it all began.
The actor starred as Lydia Deetz, the teenage daughter of Charles and Delia, who move into a new house in Winter River, Connecticut, only to find it haunted by the ghost with the most himself, Beetlejuice (Michael Keaton). In the movie, Keaton's rambunctious supernatural miscreant was hired to spook the Deetz family by the former owners of the house, Barbara and Adam Maitland (Geena Davis and Alex Baldwin), who suddenly found themselves in the afterlife following a car accident. It's easy to take for granted just how radical the original "Beetlejuice" was. When Tim Burton made his now-classic paranormal comedy in 1988, he was responding to a decade of films that either had a music video polish and conservative bent (see: the collective works of producers Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer) or sought to recreate the success of Steven Spielberg's crowd-pleasers without the crucial ingredients that give them their artistic merit. "Beetlejuice," on the other hand, had none of that. Far from being saccharine or picture-perfect, it had a lo-fi hand-made quality and a fascination with the dead -- painting the afterlife as neither something ethereal nor grotesque but as monotonous and tedious as the world of the living.
Beneath all its supernatural escapades and weirdness, "Beetlejuice" is also a straightforward tale of clashing cultures. The film pits a recently deceased married couple from the fictional small town of Winter River,...

Ah, "The Addams Family." They're creepy and they're kooky. Mysterious and spooky. They're all together ooky. And so on. The ghoulish Addamses were created by cartoonist Charles Addams in the pages of The New Yorker before Hollywood came calling, adapting Addams' comics into a TV series in 1964. The series followed a family of weirdos who live every day like it's Halloween, much to the confusion of the normal folks all around them. The original "The Addams Family" series lasted only two seasons, running between 1964 and 1966, but its impact and influence continued for decades.
Sadly, the majority of the original cast of "The Addams Family" are no longer with us. But there's one main player who is still around.

Season 2 of the hit Netflix Addams Family series Wednesday is expected to start filming in Ireland (season 1 was shot in Romania) sometime in late April, and during an interview with Vanity Fair the show’s star Jenna Ortega confirmed that she is about to get ready to return to the world of Wednesday Addams, revealing that she has been reading the season scripts recently – and promising that every episode of the new season will have something that will make it stand out and be memorable.
Vanity Fair asked Ortega about a previous quote where she said Wednesday season 2 will be more episodic, with each episode coming off like a standalone movie, and that it would lean further into horror. The first season of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" has some major gems, perhaps none more so than "Out of Sight, Out of Mind." SAG Award-winner Clea DuVall stars in the episode as a teen girl who is so shy and overlooked by her classmates that she literally turns invisible, causing her to lash out violently.
DuVall's character, Marcie Ross, was named after Marcy Ross, a real-life woman who worked on the "Buffy" set as an assistant to Gail Berman, a producer who helped develop the WB series and has since gone on to produce the Oscar-nominated mega-hit "Elvis." Berman also produced the spin-off series "Angel" and continues to work in television today (most recently on the first season of Netflix's super-successful "Addams Family" series "Wednesday").

The tropes of horror comedy go back a long way; the genre probably dates to “Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein,” released in 1948, with a few electro-roots in “The Bride of Frankenstein.” Yet the good ones all share something: a combo of flavors — scary and funny, violent and knockabout — that’s bold and tart and bracingly blended. A good horror comedy is a genre smoothie that wakes you right up.
But then there’s “Lisa Frankenstein,” a horror-com smoothie made mostly of ancient, moldy fruit. At this point, what a movie like this one tends to have going against it is the sheer past-the-sell-by-date creakiness of a genre that has now spent too many decades placing monsters and zombies in a so-normal-it’s-wicked high-camp setting. The original ghoulie sitcoms, “The Munsters” and “The Addams Family,” are 60 years old. “Young Frankenstein” is 50 years old. Even monster cereals like Count Chocula and Franken...

Miramax may have found its new leader. Jonathan Glickman, the former MGM executive, is in talks to join Miramax as its CEO, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.
He would step in for former CEO Bill Block, who departed last year after a six-year run.
Glickman served as motion group president at MGM for nine years, where under his tenure, James Bond became a billion-dollar franchise. He also shepherded the rejuvenation of the Rocky franchise, relaunching it as the Creed movie series starring Michael B. Jordan. He departed the studio at the top of 2020 for a first-look producing deal with MGM, and two years later launched Panoramic Media.
As part of his deal to become CEO, Miramax would acquire Panoramic, which has its hand in several noteworthy properties, including the Addams Family animated movies and the Netflix Addams-centric series Wednesday, which helped propel star Jenna Ortega to the A-list.

Title star Jenna Ortega has talked about Wednesday season 2, which will contain ‘a little bit more horror’, she says.
Awards ceremony red carpets are a prime hunting ground for roving entertainment reporters, given that you can reliably collar a celebrity as they’re flustered and in a bit of a rush. Such is the case with Jenna Ortega, who was briefly interviewed by the snappily-named E! at the Emmys earlier this week.
When asked about the second season of Wednesday, the Addams Family spin-off series streamed by Netflix, Ortega said she’d received some scripts, and that “we’re definitely leaning into more horror.”
Elsewhere, Ortega added that the second series will be “bigger,” “more action-packed,” filled with “really good one liners” and that “each episode will probably feel a little bit like a movie, which is nice.”

You can’t always count on something that was initially released through a streaming service to receive a physical media release, but one streaming show that’s set to reach Blu-ray and DVD soon is the hit Netflix Addams Family series Wednesday. Season 1 of Wednesday will be getting a Blu-ray and DVD release on March 26th, and copies can be pre-ordered through Amazon! Meanwhile, Wednesday season 2 is gearing up for production. The new episodes are expected to start filming in Ireland (season 1 was shot in Romania) sometime in late April.
The first season of Wednesday consisted of eight episodes. The show comes to us from Millar Gough Ink, Tim Burton Productions, Toluca Pictures, and MGM Television, and is described as a comedic, supernaturally-infused coming-of-age series that follows the teenage girl’s years as a student at Nevermore Academy, where she attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous...

New insights are still being unearthed after Netflix dumped the viewership data for nearly its entire catalog from the first half of 2023, which includes more than 18,000 titles.
One of those observations is that young adult and female-centric content are doing especially well for the streamer. In fact, though The Night Agent is ranked No. 1 in terms of hours viewed, that’s really only because the data separates individual seasons of a series. Ginny & Georgia was actually the most-watched title from January to June on Netflix, with a combined 967.2M hours viewed between Seasons 1 and 2.
Season 2 of Ginny & Georgia debuted on January 5, and it alone racked up 665.1M hours viewed.
Season 1 tallied 302.1M (aka 30M “views”), likely reinvigorated by those catching up before watching the new episodes, as well as audiences who were introduced to the title for the first time.

Yesterday, news hit that Netflix is developing a spin-off of "Wednesday," the streamer's mega-successful series starring Jenna Ortega. Makes sense, right? "Wednesday" is an undeniable hit -- one of the few original shows where Netflix doesn't need to obfuscate its data because it became a genuine cultural phenomenon. According to Bloomberg, Netflix is "eager to establish a pipeline of 'Addams Family' programs to build off the success of 'Wednesday.'" The spin-off is going to center on the Uncle Fester character, as played by Fred Armisen.
To be clear, Armisen is hilarious. For my money, he's one of the funniest actors working today. He's a master of making weird little faces (see: his memorable appearance in HBO's "Barry"), and there's an inherent goofiness to him that makes him lovable and easy to watch. But is Netflix sure the reason a vast amount of audiences tuned into "Wednesday...

Here is a wrap-up of all the news you need to know from Monday, December 18, 2023.
NBC's Magnum P.I. will conclude with a two-hour series, finale it has been announced.
After ending 2023 with two episodes still in the can, there were questions about when the show would return.
TVLine has revealed that the two episodes will air back-to-back on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, beginning at 9 p.m. E.T.
It's a real shame the series is ending because Magnum P.I. Season 5 has been the show at its very best, and there are plenty of ways it could continue.
Despite the cancellation, its passionate fans are not giving up the hope of finding the series a third home.
Meanwhile, MGM+ has announced a pickup of Beacon 23 Season 2.

Netflix is looking for ways to expand the universe of hit drama Wednesday, which reportedly involves developing a spin-off featuring Uncle Fester.
The Addams Family has been a perennial presence on the big and small screen since Charles Addams’ comics were adapted into the original television show in 1964.
Since then, there have been reunion television films and animated series, but the franchise arguably hit its peak in the 1990s with the release of feature films The Addams Family and it’s arguably even better sequel Addams Family Values.
Very few people talk about Addams Family Reunion which, although it features a scenery chewing turn from Tim Curry, failed to make an impact, much like The New Addams Family, the television series which followed soon after, which is only really worth watching for the episode where John Astin, the original Gomez, returns as Grandpapa Addams.

The first season of “Wednesday” is the most popular English-language TV (and only trails “Squid Game” overall) in the history of Netflix. It’s safe to say that no one ever expected this “Addams Family” reimagining to be nearly as popular as it is. So, as you might expect, as Netflix looks forward to Season 2 beginning production in 2024, the streamer is already planning how to spin off the massive series.

Wednesday took Netflix viewers by storm last holiday season, and as the team behind the Addams Family-inspired series prepares to start production on Season 2, the streamer is apparently gearing up for the possibility of an Uncle Fester (Fred Armisen) spinoff. According to a report by Bloomberg, Netflix has started discussions about a spinoff series built around Armisen’s version of Uncle Fester, who made an appearance in Wednesday‘s first season. The idea has yet to get off the ground with a series order or greenlight unannounced, and Netflix would have to negotiate contracts and schedules in order to make it work. (Credit: Vlad Cioplea/Netflix) Ultimately, the choice to do a spinoff makes sense considering the success of Wednesday, which broke records on the platform. At the time of the show’s release in November 2022, Wednesday broke Stranger Things‘ record, pulling in 341.2 million hours viewed roughly a week after release,...

While Netflix awaits Season 2 of its breakout hit “Wednesday,” the latest adaptation of the “Addams Family” franchise, it is already eyeing a way to expand that universe. Variety has confirmed that Netflix and producer MGM Television are indeed aiming to spin off “Wednesday” to focus on Uncle Fester.
Armisen’s casting was a surprise when it was first revealed in October 2022 during a trailer teaser drop. He joined the Addams family that also included star Jenna Ortega (Wednesday Addams), as well as Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia Addams, Luis Guzmán as Gomez Addams and Isaac Ordonez as Pugsley Addams.
Armisen first rose to prominence via his sketch comedy roles in “Saturday Night Live” and “Portlandia”; in recent years his TV appearances have included “Barry,” “History of the World, Part II,” “Unstable,” “What We Do in the Shadows,” “The Kids in the Hall,” “Our Flag Means Death,” “Schmigadoon,” “Moonbase 8” and “Shrull.

Netflix seems to be making the same mistake every big studio does — jumping the gun to launching big franchises and cinematic universes out of untested hits.
According to Bloomberg, the streamer is already developing a spin-off of "Wednesday," this time focused on Fred Armisen's Uncle Fester. This news comes before production even begins on "Wednesday" season 2. Granted, as Guillermo del Toro has sadly taught us all, just because something is said to be in development doesn't mean it will get to see the light of day. Still, the Bloomberg report says Netflix is "eager to establish a pipeline of 'Addams Family' programs to build off the success of 'Wednesday.'" This means that if this one doesn't work, they still have other ones to try out, as the streamer apparently wants to Dark Universe "The Addams Family."

The streamer is in the early stages of development on a spinoff of Wednesday. The potential series would focus on Uncle Fester, Wednesday’s (Jenna Ortega) paternal uncle, played by Fred Armisen.
That a spinoff would be in the offing is no surprise, given the runaway success of Wednesday, which premiered in November 2022 and became Netflix’s biggest series to date in terms of streaming “views” (calculated by dividing a movie or show’s total viewing time by its running time). It was renewed for a second season in January.
Amazon MGM Studios, which produces the series and owns rights to the characters, is fully on board as well, per Bloomberg (which first reported development of the spinoff).

The Netflix streaming service had another major hit on its hands when the Addams Family series Wednesday made its debut back in November of 2022. Season 2 of that show is now gearing up to start filming in Ireland (the first season was filmed in Romania) in late April next year – and Bloomberg reports that Netflix is now considering making a spin-off based on another popular Addams Family character, Uncle Fester!
According to Bloomberg, an Uncle Fester spin-off would be the first step in Netflix building their own Addams Family franchise. “Before production begins on the second season (of Wednesday), the company has also started talking about another Addams Family program, one built around Uncle Fester. As with any TV show in development, there is no guarantee the Uncle Fester show will ever happen. The writers have to figure out the story, the company needs to negotiate contracts with talent, and the...

While Netflix’s smash hit Wednesday may not be dancing to screens any time soon, the streamer is reportedly kicking around ideas for a potential spinoff.
Before production started for Wednesday‘s second season, Netflix began discussions for a spinoff based around Fred Armisen’s Uncle Fester, reports Bloomberg. While a potential new series is not set in stone — writers will have to outline the story, and contracts and scheduling with talent will need to be negotiated — the streaming giant hopes to eventually expand on Wednesday‘s momentum by turning its Addams Family success into a franchise.

The Jenna Ortega-starring “Wednesday” has proven to be a massive hit for Netflix, and it looks like the streaming service is planning their very own Addams Family Universe.
In addition to the upcoming “Wednesday” Season 2, which is said to “lean into the horror more,” Bloomberg reports that an Uncle Fester spinoff series is being considered.
Bloomberg reports, “… the company has also started talking about another Addams Family program, one built around Uncle Fester, played on the series by Fred Armisen. As with any TV show in development, there is no guarantee the Uncle Fester show will ever happen.”
“The writers have to figure out the story, the company needs to negotiate contracts with talent, and the schedules of the individuals must align,” the report continues. “But Netflix is eager to establish a pipeline of Addams Family programs to build off the success of Wednesday.”
