Stanley Ellin's original short story was also adapted for television as an episode of Tales of the Unexpected (1979) (1979). It was the first episode of the fourth season, and starred Michael Kitchen and Jeremy Clyde.
On the commentary track for Saint Jack (1979), director Peter Bogdanovich said he became a huge fan of Denholm Elliott after watching this film, which was before he became a director. He cast Elliott in an important co-starring role in Pete Bexon as well as Noises Off... (1992), which was Elloitt's last film.
The inscription in French on the four poster bed reads "Honi soit qui mal y pense" which roughly translated into English as "Shame on anyone who thinks badly of it".
Screenwriter Frederic Raphael had already adapted Stanley Ellin's original short story, "The Best Of Everything", as a short play for British television.
