Of all the major cast members, each portraying a high school junior or senior, only John Friedrich was under the age of 20 at the time of production. In fact, most of the primary actors and actresses playing students were well into their twenties when filming commenced, with Lee Purcell already 30 years of age and Tim Matheson nearly 30.
In the Ted Bundy book The Stranger Beside Me, author and Bundy's friend Ann Rule said that for the premiere, Rule was director Martin Davidson's guest, but she couldn't relax knowing that Ted had just been arrested in Florida (where he would eventually be found guilty, and later, executed).
