Debut theatrical feature film of actress Jodi Thelen who played Georgia.
The movie was predominantly filmed in two American states of the USA: Illinois and Indiana.
The film was made and first released about two years after 'Breaking Away' (1979) which was same screenwriter Steve Tesich's previous picture about a group of friends that has a number of similarities in story and theme with 'Four Friends (1981).
The period of principal photography on this picture was a shoot of about four months running from late July to late November 1980.
The film, according to an official Filmways Pictures media release dated 15th January 1982, was first given a small limited release in mid December 1981 in order to allow the picture to qualify for Academy Award (Oscar) contention and consideration. The movie then re-opened for its major American release stateside in late January 1982. However, in the end the picture was not nominated for any Oscars (Academy Awards) as had been the case with screenwriter Steve Tesich's previous movie 'Breaking Away' (1979).
