Steve McQueen’s long-anticipated thriller Widows has capped off its casting spree with the addition of Robert Duvall, Deadline has learned.
Based on the British miniseries of the same name, McQueen’s crime caper – his first feature since the wildly successful 12 Years a Slave – boasts an all-star cast comprised of Hidden Figures scene-stealer Viola Davis, Colin Farrell (The Beguiled), Liam Neeson, Michelle Rodriguez, Cynthia Erivo, Elizabeth Debicki (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2) and soon-to-be Black Panther star Daniel Kaluuya. It’s an ensemble good enough to evoke envy from any rival studio, and we can’t wait to see all of those talents share the screen together come 2018.
Granted, Widows is still in search of an official release date, but we do know that Steve McQueen penned the script with the help of Gillian Flynn, the celebrated author best known for Gone Girl, Dark Places and Sharp Objects – two...

The cast of Steve McQueen’s next creative venture, a heist thriller by the name of Widows, continues to impress.
So far, the writer-director has tapped Oscar-winning actress Viola Davis (Fences), Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 star Elizabeth Debicki, Cynthia Erivo, Michelle Rodriguez (The Fate of the Furious), Daniel Kaluuya (Get Out), and Andre Holland. But the casting spree doesn’t end there, as Variety brings word that Liam Neeson, star of Taken and upcoming thriller The Commuter, has entered negotiations to play the part of Davis’ husband.
Marking McQueen’s first foray behind the lens since collecting the Oscar for 12 Years a Slave, Widows heralds a creative collaboration with Gillian Flynn, the author best known for nervy page-turners in the vein of Gone Girl and Dark Places – two novels that went on to receive big-screen adaptations of their own. Fast and Furious stalwart Michelle Rodriguez has been tapped to star in Widows, a new heist thriller from Brit director Steve McQueen.
Word comes by way of Deadline, revealing that Rodriguez now joins a preliminary cast comprised of the Oscar-nominated Viola Davis (Fences) and Cynthia Erivo. Gone Girl scribe Gillian Flynn has been tapped to write the script alongside McQueen, with Lynda Laplante’s 1983 British miniseries acting as the source material.
Perhaps most exciting of all is the fact that Widows heralds Steve McQueen’s first return to filmmaking since his Oscar win for 12 Years a Slave. That’s not to say that the writer-director hasn’t been keeping busy, given McQueen’s commitment to the now-shelved Codes of Conduct limited series at HBO. The network’s decision to postpone the project has essentially opened up an avenue back to feature filmmaking for McQueen, and Widows really kicks into gear...

Widows is a project we have been hearing about for a number of years, but it just got a significant shot in the arm with the casting of the powerhouse, award-winning actress, Viola Davis. In what can only be confirmation that the script is now fully formed and in very good shape, Davis has signed on for an as-yet undisclosed (but undoubtedly leading) role for 12 Years A Slave director Steve McQueen.
Widows was a British miniseries created by Lynda La Plante. It originally aired its two six-part seasons in 1983 and 1985, with a sequel being broadcast in 1995. A short-lived remake for American television – written by Lynda La Plante – also appeared in 2002. In the drama, three armed robbers are killed, mid-heist, and their widows join forces to complete the raid themselves, with the help of a fourth woman. Comic Book Reviews: Indie Comics To Look Out For!
Much like music or television, the comic book industry is full of all types of comic books. Most come from big time publishers like Marvel or DC, but there are also some from smaller publishers such as Image, Idw, Dark Horse, and Valiant, among others. However, there is an entire new community of independent comic book creators emerging thanks to the digital era.
These creators are finding ways to get their book together and produced without relying upon a bigger publishing house. Comic book creators can now market their product via Amazon, Comixology, Drivethru, and even their own self-designed website (as long as they set up an online-store). To help fund and produce these books, creators might pay their teams out-of-pocket, or simply be a one person, all-inclusive creator. Another avenue many creators have taken too is crowd funding. After jumping into the film world with her adaptation of her own work with Gone Girl, it seems like Gillian Flynn will be moving forward with a project that has her working with one of the latest directors to take home an Oscar for Best Picture.

Gillian Flynn's already proven herself as a screenwriter, adapting her novel Gone Girl for David Fincher's film last year. Now the Hollywood Reporter is reporting she'll do the same for Lynda La Plante's British miniseres, Prime Suspect. Flynn has been tapped to adapt the miniseries for Steve McQueen's next film, Widows. It's familiar territory for Flynn: The story takes place after "four armed robbers are killed during a failed heist and their surviving widows join forces and resolve to pull off the raid themselves." No word yet on how cool these widows will be, but we're betting that if Flynn's involved, they'll be pretty damn sadistic.

"Gone Girl" scribe Gillian Flynn has come aboard Steve McQueen's heist thriller for New Regency. This marks the British director's first feature film since his "12 Years a Slave," also financed by New Regency, won Best Picture in 2014. The yet-to-be-titled heist thriller thriller is based on the 1983 Brit miniseries "Widows," which was penned by Lynda La Plante, who wrote the original six-part series as well as Helen Mirren starrer "Prime Suspect." "Widows" is about a caper gone awry after four armed robbers are killed in a botched heist. Their widows team up to finish what they started. It will be interesting to see what McQueen does with what is perfect terrain for Flynn. According to THR, the film won't be titled "Widows" and it will be set in a modern-day American city that isn't London. This more commercial-sounding McQueen outing is expected to enter pre-production in the Fall, with Iain Canning and Emile Sherman.

The Oscar-winning director of 12 Years A Slave, Steve McQueen, has chosen a female-led heist movie as his follow-up project. The filmmaker will re-team with production company New Regency to create a new, feature film version of the British television mini-series Widows, which first aired in 1983.
Created and written by Lynda La Plante, the original version of Widows comprised six episodes, and featured a plot that saw three armed robbers killed during the commission of their latest heist. Discovering that the circumstances of the deaths of their husbands were not as straightforward as they first seemed, the widows team up and resolve to finish the job. Starring Ann Mitchell, Fiona Hendley, Maureen O’Farrell and Eva Mottley, the series was very popular on British television in its time, and spawned two sequels. In 2002, Disney produced a U.S remake, which starred Mercedes Ruehl, Brooke Shields and Rosie Perez.
