DC Studios has been in a bit of trouble as they have attempted to rescue the sinking ship of the superhero slates getting released. With James Gunn taking over as the co-ceo of the superhero brand with Peter Safran, Warner Brothers is expecting a ray of sunshine. But with the failed DC movies, the fate of several movies has been hazy, including Asher Angel’s Shazam 2.
Asher Angel in Shazam! Fury of the Gods
Gunn’s tenure in DC has started, but the beginning of his new version of DC Universe is yet to roll out, which will officially begin with his upcoming movie Superman. Failure of the recent DC flops was a huge question mark on several heroes’ return— Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam, Ezra Miller’s The Flash, and Zachary Levi’s Shazam 2. But with Gunn’s takeover, the potential comeback has been slim to none.

There's (understandably) been a whole lot of re-examining things said by the "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" TV series cast over the years in the wake of the more recent revelations about creator Joss Whedon's toxic behavior and misconduct behind the scenes. I only mention this because it's hard not to do precisely that when revisiting comments that David Boreanaz made about his experience on "Bones" shortly before its series finale aired in 2017.
Having portrayed the brooding vampire Angel -- and, on occasion, his literally soulless evil half Angelus -- on "Buffy" and then the "Angel" spinoff series for several years, Boreanaz barely paused before diving right into playing Seeley Booth on "Bones." The FBI agent was, in some ways, just as tormented as Buffy's blood-thirsty boyfriend, though you wouldn't necessarily know it. To be sure, Hart Hanson's procedural was far more interested in the screwball comedy relationship between Booth and his murder-investigating colleague,...

The new episodes of Hazbin Hotel are out, and it looks like Charlie has not yet given up on the idea that Hell-dwellers can be redeemed. The next extermination was coming soon, and Charlie needed to get a meeting with Heaven. She didn’t know whom to contact. Previously, she had contacted Heaven’s embassy and had been shunned by Adam. Now she wanted to meet with a higher authority, as she truly believed there had been some progress. She had nothing to show for it, but it was just her wishful thinking on display, and her delusion had to be supported by Vaggie, who hid a terrible secret about her life. The fifth episode introduced us to Lucifer, a depressed dad, trying to live out his meaningless existence who gets surprised when Charlie asks for help.

Hart Hanson's hit TV series "Bones" ran for 246 episodes over the course of 12 seasons. In that time, the two lead characters Bones (Emily Deschanel) and Booth (David Boreanaz) went through a lot, starting from a will-they-won't-they semi-romance to raising a few kids together. Deschanel and Boreanaz also served as producers on the show, with Boreanaz directing 11 episodes himself. Deschanel additionally sat in the director's chair once, helming "The Hope in the Horror," the first episode of the 12th season.
Given their professional positions on "Bones" (not to mention the show's overwhelming popularity), one might assume that our leading actors were permitted to give their bosses a great deal of creative input. After 12 seasons, it's likely that Deschanel and Boreanaz explored just about every type of story and minor character wrinkle that they wanted. After all, a marathon of "Bones" would take -- without sleep -- seven days, eight hours,...

Law & Order has had a rotating roster of actors through its many years on air and various spin-offs. But there was one familiar actor on the show who was admittedly brought on for the sake of eye candy.
This actor was brought on to replace Angie Harmon because of her looks Elisabeth Rohm and Sam Waterson | Jessica Burstein/NBCUniversal/Getty Images
Law & Order fans may have fond memories of Harmon’s character Abbie Carmichael on the show. The actor portrayed the young Ada from seasons 9 to 11, while also making a guest appearance on the spin-off Svu. As is the case with many actors, Harmon left the show simply to pursue other career opportunities.
“I left Law and Order because I really honestly did want to do movies and did want to be a movie star since I was a little girl,” Harmon once said according to Cinema Confidential.

(Photo by Stewart Cook/Getty Images for Warner Bros. ) The big difference between the original film version of The Color Purple and the new version? It’s the music, of course! The new version of The Color Purple is based on the musical, which opened on Broadway in music written by Brenda Russell, Allee Willis, and Stephen Bray. All were accomplished songwriters — Russell had a solo career of her own (Piano in the Dark), Willis co-wrote songs like Earth Wind & Fire’s classic September and The Rembrandts’ I’ll Be There For You, and Bray co-wrote several of Madonna’s early hits. The three brought a diverse set of ideas to the table when writing music for The Color Purple,...

Nick wades into another stack of DVD releases, including 80s action epic Remo: Unarmed And Dangerous, and lots more besides...
"Whatever happened to Fred Ward?" is a line surely on the tip of most people’s tongues. Motel Hell is an odd film. It’s packaged as a horror-comedy hybrid, but in reality, it takes itself far more seriously than most movies within the same category. Though the film does have an oddball quality, it steers clear of satire, and never reduces itself to slapstick. Motel Hell was produced during a time where all studio horror output was expected to be dead-teen slasher flicks, and while the film has a slasher quality to it, it has a lot more going on for it than that. Another thing Motel Hell is good for, is forcing you to create a lot of the violence in your own mind, as much of the gorier death scenes happen off-screen in a clever sort of way. Much like The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, you walk away from Motel Hell feeling like you just watched a gorier film than you actually did. What...

Feminine roles in cinema vary as there are different types of female empowerment displayed on the big screen. The same can be said for the showcasing the vulnerability of women in the movies as well. From motherhood to savvy businesswomen women have been either represented with integrity or misrepresented with exploitative intent.

Actor often cast in sleazy, raunchy roles
Susan Tyrrell, who has died aged 67, had all the makings of a cult movie star. Husky-voiced and eccentric, she was a dissipated flower child, somewhat resembling an underground Shirley MacLaine. No wonder she was cast in outrageous roles in Bad (1976) and Cry-Baby (1990), which gained her fans among the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community.
Tyrrell (pronounced Tie-rell), who liked to be called SuSu, was attracted to the bizarre. "I find beauty in the grotesque," she once said, "and in the sweet soul inside someone who has been able to get through their life without being a rat's ass. Such people should be collected, should be swept up immediately and kept in a box of broken people."
One of the broken people she portrayed so vividly was Oma, the pathetic, drunken barfly in John Huston's Fat City (1972), for which she was nominated for an Oscar.

Birthday shoutouts go to Eric Sheffer Stevens (above), who is 40, Kathleen Turner is 58, Paula Abdul is 50, Hugh Dancy is 37, and Ann Wilson is 62. We did a top Heart list a few months ago for Nancy's birthday, but since my top ten changes all the time, let's do it again! 10. "Almost Paradise (Ann and Mike Reno)," 9. "Barracuda," 8. "Dog & Butterfly," 7. "How Can I Refuse," 6. "Even It Up," 5."The Best Man In The World (Ann solo song)." 4. "Dreamboat Annie", 3. "Crazy On You" 2. "What About Love," 1. "Love Alive"

Susan Tyrrell, an Academy Award-nominated actress, but known more for her off-beat cult movies, has passed away at the age of 67. According to her official website, she died Sunday, June 16. A cause of death was not immediately available.
Tyrrell burst onto the national film scene in her fourth movie, John Huston's 1972 cult hit "Fat City." She was the low-down boozer girlfriend opposite Stacy Keach's has-been boxer Billy Tully. The role earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
She went on to star in more cult classics like "Bad," "Forbidden Zone," "Angel" and "Avenging Angel," but some know her best as Midge Montana from "Big Top Pee Wee," Chuck the bartender from 1988 musical "Rockula" or Johnny Depp's on-screen Aunt Ramona Ricketts in the 1990 John Waters cult musical "Cry-Baby." She also starred in Depp's 1990 short film "Every Little Thing, Neil."

Susan Tyrrell, a Best Supporting Actress nominee in 1972 for director John Huston's Fat City, has died, her family confirms to People. According to susantyrrell.com, the actress died Sunday, and had been a resident of Austin, Texas, since 2008, it was reported by Austin360.com. In the John Huston boxing drama, which also starred Jeff Bridges and Stacy Keach, Tyrell, then 26, played Oma, a falling-down drunk. She later said that although Huston wanted to cast Faye Dunaway in the role, Tyrrell convinced the director to give her the job because a 26-year-old drunk would be more interesting than a 35-year-old one.

Susan Tyrrell, cult film staple and Academy Award nominee, passed away on Sunday at the age of 67. Although Tyrrell spent her career playing somewhat unsavory types, her talent did not go unrecognized. She made her transition from the theater to film with 1971's "Shoot Out," and, by the following year, was nominated for Best Supporting Actress in John Huston's "Fat City." She went on to star in over a dozen off-beat films, including "Angel" and "Cry-Baby." Her health began failing in the early 2000s; she lost both of her legs due to the rare blood disease Essential Thrombocythemia. Despite her ailments, Tyrrell continued to star in movies such as "Masked and Anonymous" (2003), "The Devil's Due at Midnight" (2004) and, most recently, David Zellner's "Kid-Thing." "Nothing was off limits with her -- she didn't mince words, she loved what she loved and she hated what she hated...She will be sorely missed,...

They have a right to be pissed.
It's the most important morning of the year. Hollywood is temporarily jolted from its stupor for a ten-minute rollercoaster of natural highs and shattered dreams. Nothing but ... shattered dreams.
It's those shattered dreams that immediately become the focus after the Oscar nominations are announced. With only five slots per category, deserving actors are excluded, and that's when the fun begins, as the discussion about the "snubs" commences.
That was especially true this year, as a flurry of serious contenders were nowhere to be found. Charlize Theron, Tilda Swinton, Leonardo Dicaprio, and Albert Brooks were the names most bandied about, along with Andy Serkis (and they should really either nominate him, or give him a special Oscar for his unique contributions to film.)
Of course, Oscar has a history of overlooking interesting and memorable performances. Let's take a look at a few notable Oscar omissions.

Put on your sheep skin vest, your ultraviolet goggles and your best pair of hookin' shoes because a brand new episode of Junk Food Dinner is comin' at ya!
This week, we have Peter Cushing leading an army of aquatic Nazi zombies who take great pleasure in drowning young castaways on a deserted island in the atmospheric 1977 horror film Shock Waves.
Then, a 15-year-old girl (played by then-24-year-old Donna Wilkes) leads a double life as an innocent straight-a student by day, seductive Hollywood hooker by night, until she and her gang of kooky friends become the target of a serial killer in the campy exploitation classic Angel from 1984.
And finally, a giant malformed sheep monster terrorizes a Nevada Wild West tourist town in the truly bizarre 1973 drive-in creature feature Godmonster of Indian Flats directed by Fredric Hobbes.
Also, we have Nerds News, this week's DVD and Blu-Ray releases and much more!

For the last four years, Alamo Drafthouse programmer Zack Carlson has hosted a late-night horror movie celebration called Terror Tuesday and if you are a lover of horror, both esoterically brilliantly and obscurely awful, this night was invented just for you. The Terror Tuesday Report will dissect the movie shown as well as provide a barometer for the audience's reaction; as many of these films demand to be seen with an audience, this proves a vital component to the evening.

“I didn’t know how to act,” Bobbie Bresee says of her first big-screen performance on the audio commentary for the film in question, Mausoleum. The assertion is hard to contest, but it’s also inarguable that her recollections of this 1983 schlocker are by far the best part of Bci Eclipse's double-feature disc.
The starring turn by former Playboy Bunny Bresee is far from the only problem with Mausoleum; this is the kind of movie in which the story centers on a clan named Nomed and acts like the audience can’t figure that one out right away, and in which another character knows of their history from a book helpfully titled The Nomed Family. Susan Farrell (Bresee), who once had a frightening encounter in the Nomed crypt when she was a young girl (as played by Julie Christy Murray, daughter of the film’s lighting designer, who looks nothing...
