Chow Yun-Fat is wasted in this romantic drama

WOMEN is a romantic drama that was distributed by the Shaw Brothers studio, who were on their very last legs in 1985 as a production company. It's a pity to see that it stars Chow Yun-Fat who is wasted in a non-action role, although he does get to share a lot of sweet and funny scenes with the kid who plays his son. This slow-moving melodrama reminded me a little of THE JANE AUSTEN BOOK CLUB and follows the fortunes of Cora Miao's Bo-Er, who splits up with Yun-Fat after discovering that he's been cheating on her. She hooks up with an all-female group of friends to gain a new lease on life, but Yun-Fat isn't quite gone out of her life just yet. It's not that this film is particularly bad, because it's fairly well filmed, but also static and quite shallow. As an action fan I'd much rather be watching one of the films that Shaw is best known for.
