Christopher Walken's portrayal of Emperor Shaddam in Dune: Part Two intentionally subverts expectations of a powerful villain. The subdued performance of the Emperor highlights the themes of leadership and the corruptibility of power in the film. Despite criticism, Walken's unspectacular portrayal is actually in line with Denis Villeneuve's vision for a more realistic sci-fi narrative.
Christopher Walken’s performance as Emperor Shaddam IV is one of the only aspects of Dune: Part Two that’s been widely criticized, but those complaints have completely missed the point of the character. After being built up as the all-powerful ruler of the Known Universe in Dune: Part One, the Emperor was finally revealed in Dune: Part Two, with Oscar-winning screen legend Walken taking on the role. After all the build-up, the Emperor was considered to be a let-down, with Walken doing little to shake up his usual acting style or make the character stand out.

Pierce Brosnan endorses Cillian Murphy as James Bond and feels the Oppenheimer actor "would do a magnificent job." 47-year-old Murphy is younger than previous Bond actors like Roger Moore, who was 57 when he played the iconic character for the final time in A View to a Kill. Brosnan played 007 in a total of four films from 1995 until 2002.
Pierce Brosnan can easily envision Cillian Murphy as Bond, James Bond. While attending the 2024 Oscar Wilde Awards, the former 007 star, Brosnan, endorsed the Oppenheimer actor as the famous spy. Christopher Walken is one of Hollywood’s most reputable actors who has a lengthy career in filmmaking. Before starring in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune movie franchise, he was first recognized in 1978’s The Deer Hunter and 1985’s A View to a Kill.

James Bond 26 should break canon to bring back Ana de Armas' Paloma, as her character stole the show in No Time To Die. Paloma's return may cause continuity issues but would be worth it, considering her unique and memorable role. Ana de Armas deserves to play Paloma in Bond 26 and could be a significant part of James Bond's future.
James Bond 26 must break canon to bring back one Daniel Craig era star, and a 2024 action movie will prove why. The next installment of the James Bond franchise will be without Daniel Craig, who played Bond in five movies over a 15-year period. Daniel Craig's James Bond death in No Time To Die confirms the actor will be stepping away from the role and allowing a new actor to take the mantle. Alongside casting a new Bond, the other classic supporting roles will likely all be recast, as has been the case over the years.

There are loads of tantalizing Hollywood casting what-ifs. Tom Selleck would've played Indiana Jones had he not been previously committed to CBS' "Magnum P.I." Pierce Brosnan was set to succeed Roger Moore as James Bond after "A View to a Kill," but NBC, realizing the star of their just-canceled "Remington Steele," was a hot commodity, resurrected the show for a fifth season (after which it was canceled again). And there's always poor Dougray Scott, who had to give up the role of Wolverine in Bryan Singer's "X-Men" when "Mission: Impossible II" went over schedule.
These were franchise- and career-altering decisions. What would Harrison Ford have done after the conclusion of the "Star Wars" original trilogy in 1983? Would Brosnan have rejuvenated the flagging Bond series, thus averting the six-year retooling period between "License to Kill" and "GoldenEye?" Could Scott have connected with audiences as emphatically as Hugh Jackman did in the role of Logan?...

Nearly 40 years after he made his big screen debut with a brief appearance in the James Bond picture “A View to a Kill,” Dolph Lundgren is still best known as an actor thanks to a series of iconic roles in ’80s and ’90s favorites like “Rocky IV,” “Masters of the Universe,” and “Universal Soldier.” (More recently he’s been a fixture in the “Expendables” and “Aquaman” franchises.) Yet for the past couple of decades, Lundgren has been quietly forging a side career as an accomplished writer and director of low-budget action films, movies that belie their limited resources in ambition and craftsmanship. Like the scrappy genre directors of Hollywood’s past — filmmakers like Budd Boetticher, Sam Fuller, and Don Siegel — Lundgren uses the creative freedom of lower budgets to smuggle his personal obsessions and stylistic preoccupations into accessible entertainments that are as intelligent as they are lively.

Former Fear the Walking Dead star Colman Domingo expresses interest in playing a villain in the James Bond franchise. The star, who was recently nominated for an Oscar for Rustin, says he would like to play roles unlike those he's held before. Domingo's experience playing complex characters and his recent Oscar nomination make him a fitting choice for a memorable Bond villain.

StudioCanal is reportedly rebooting the '60s series The Avengers, with the pilot already written. The original Avengers series ran from 1961 until 1969 and was a popular British television show. The Avengers has multiple connections to James Bond, with cast members appearing in both franchises.
When it comes to those who commit crimes against the people and the state, it’s up to extraordinary agents to avenge those wrongs. Nearly 50 years before the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) was even introduced, The Avengers' name was synonymous with the television series which ran from 1961 until 1969. And StudioCanal is reportedly bringing TV’s British crimefighters back to the small screen.
According to Deadline, although the Trade did not reveal their source(s), StudioCanal is planning to bring The Avengers back in a rebooted series, and, apparently, the pilot has already been penned. Mickey Down and Konrad Kay serve as co-creators on the project along with Ben Taylor.

The James Bond franchise revolutionized action cinema in the 1960s when it started with 1962’s Dr. No and stands to this day as one of the longest-running film series in history. From almost the very beginning, Bond movies strive to draw in their audiences with high-octane prologues that run before lush and stylishly rendered title sequences. These pre-title action scenes not only set the tone for the movie right out the gate but, in several instances, are the best sequences within their respective films.
This pre-title sequence tradition began with the franchise’s second movie, 1963’s From Russia with Love. Believe it or not, Dr. No does not actually contain a pre-title action scene and instead dives headfirst into its opening titles. These prologues highlight the classic elements of a spy who always served Her Majesty’s Secret Service faithfully. They also showcase how each of the actors playing Bond...

Exclusive: Quiver Distribution has picked up North American rights to the action thriller Wanted Man, co-written, directed by and starring Dolph Lundgren, for release in select theaters and on VOD on January 19, 2024.
Also starring Kelsey Grammer (Frasier) and Christina Villa (The Wedding in the Hamptons), the film centers on Johansen (Lundgren), an aging detective whose outdated policing methods have given the department a recent public relations problem. To save his job, he is sent to Mexico to extradite a female witness (Villa) to the murders of two DEA agents. Once there, he finds not only his old opinions challenged, but that bad guys on both sides of the border are now gunning for him and his witness.

The James Bond franchise is open to interpretation in many ways, with fans disagreeing on various aspects such as the character's name and code number. The next James Bond actor isn't the only question causing debates - fans also have strong opinions about the direction of the franchise. For example, many argue over whether a female actor should play James Bond.
While the franchise has thrived for decades, there are still things no James Bond fan can agree on. This is because there's still much about the James Bond movie franchise and the character himself open to interpretation, such as the real origins of the secret agent's name and code number. Moreover, as is the case with the best movie sagas and characters, the deep attachment that audiences have with Bond means that many have strong opinions about where the franchise is headed as well.

Terence Young's 1963 triumph "From Russia with Love" was the James Bond series' first sequel, and, 60 years later, it's still considered by many 007 aficionados to be one of franchise's finest installments. It's a brisk, surprisingly brutal film. The gadgetry popularized by 1964's "Goldfinger" (and launched well over the top by 1965's "Thunderball") is kept to a sensible minimum; for the most part, this is a revenge film in which our licensed-to-kill protagonist is lured into an elaborate defection plot designed to knock him off for having killed Spectre's Dr. No in the first movie. Narratively, it's as small potatoes as the mostly maligned "Casino Royale" follow-up "Quantum of Solace" (a revenge film in the other direction), but, at the time, it had the advantage of working within an unformed universe.

To state a very true, indisputable thing right up front: Pierce Brosnan is the best James Bond (in my opinion). What's more, Martin Campbell's 1995 entry "GoldenEye" is one of the three best of all the James Bond movies, and Roger Spottiswoode's 1997 film "Tomorrow Never Dies" is nothing to sneeze at. Indeed, watching "Tomorrow Never Died" in 2023 posits an eerily accurate trajectory of the future computer technology, and its Steve Jobs-like villain Elliot Carver (Jonathan Pryce) easily predicts the culture of I'm-always-right tech-bros we currently find ourselves mired in.
Briefly, the villain in "Tomorrow Never Dies" seeks to digitally control the flow of information, making him a soft-spoken, cyber-jacked version of William Randolph Hearst. He aims to start a war between China and England, hoping to secure broadcasting rights in China for the rest of his life. In 1997, such a plot seemed both hopelessly nerdy and legitimately terrifying.

There’s a lot to watch on Prime Video in October and, as you may have guessed, there’s spooky stuff galore in amongst Prime’s usual rotation of extensive library content.
In the movie Totally Killer, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina star Kiernan Shipka travels back in time to the 1980s to stop a serial killer. Then there’s Make Me Scream, a Halloween special that challenges celebrities to “a gruesome game of terror.” Renfield will also be streaming on the service for anyone who’s been dying (muahahaha!) to catch the Nic Cage Dracula film.
Outside of Prime Video’s more creepy fare, Shazam! Fury Of The Gods will debut, Upload will be back for a third season, and new film Awareness should scratch your sci-fi itch. Meanwhile, for Frasier heads – those who consider themselves utterly Frasier-pilled – all eleven seasons of the Cheers spinoff show will be streaming at the touch of a button.

Martin Campbell, while not as instantly recognizable as other directors, deserves to be considered a master of his craft due to his classic films that many cinephiles admire. Campbell played a significant role in changing the tone of the James Bond franchise, reinventing and resurrecting it with films like Goldeneye and Casino Royale, establishing new Bonds and memorable villains. Campbell's versatility and skill in the action genre are evident in films like The Mask of Zorro, Vertical Limit, and No Escape, proving that he can tackle different styles and create captivating movies.

It’s been 50 years since Roger Moore debuted in the role of James Bond, so it’s the perfect time to look back on what his movies got right about the 007 mythos – and what they got wrong. From Live and Let Die to A View to a Kill, Moore starred in a total of seven Bond movies, more than any other 007 actor. Whereas Sean Connery’s Bond movies received near-universal praise from critics, the Moore movies were met with a more mixed reception. Some of them were highly acclaimed, like The Spy Who Loved Me, while others were widely panned, like Moonraker and Octopussy.
Moore had the suaveness and charisma to pull off the role of 007, but his Bond movies were a mixed bag. Things like Moore's humor and some of the films' experimentation with other genres worked wonders for the era's reputation, but not all the new genres were hits,...

Moore, who died in 2017, played Bond in seven films between 1973 and 1985, beginning with Live and Let Die and ending with A View to a Kill. His family are selling 180 lots of Moore’s own memorabilia, with part of the proceeds going to the United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef), which appointed Moore as a goodwill ambassador in 1991.

According to an Ian Fleming rule from the James Bond books, many of the actors who played the role were too old. The 007 featured in Fleming's novels and the one seen in the Bond movies aren't necessarily the same character. The rougher edges of Bond were sanded down when he made the leap to movies, though his womanizing, boozing and talent for killing remained intact. The relatively unknown Sean Connery wasn't at all who Fleming had in mind for 007, and he was thinking along the lines of Cary Grant or David Niven.
Of course, Connery proved perfect casting, and over 60 years on, still defines the spy for fans of the James Bond movies. In the years that followed, five more actors have played 007, with Daniel Craig being the most recent. Casting for James Bond 26 will likely see an actor in the early to mid-30s inheriting the mantle, ensuring...

Most James Bond movies live and die by their villain, and while A View to a Kill mostly dies a slow, boring death by its own doing, Christopher Walken's performance as Max Zorin helps make the process more enjoyable. As always, Walken is gleefully charismatic in this 1985 spy adventure, with a dash of his evil side that we see only so often. The film itself is the sum of its parts - the final outing of an actor who, self admittedly, was playing a part that he had long before aged out of. It's grossly 80s in all the worst ways. You've got obnoxious hair metal guitars screaming over a brass score, more helpless Bond girls in an era that couldn't care less about them, and a near-60 Bond who's throwing out pun after pun like a T-shirt cannon at a baseball game. Thankfully, Walken's presence is the secret...

Duran Duran launched their 2023 “Future Past North American Tour” at Napa Valley’s BottleRock Festival on Saturday, May 27th.
To kick off their headlining set, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame group quickly dispatched several of their biggest hits, including “Hungry Like the Wolf,” “Notorious,” and “A View to a Kill.” In a career-spanning sequence befitting the ethos behind their 2021 LP, Future Past, the band reached as far back as their 1981 debut single “Planet Earth,” while touching on key eras with tracks like 1984’s “The Reflex,” 1993’s “Ordinary World,” and their latest LP’s “Anniversary.”
The night also included the first live rendition of the Future Past duet “Give It All Up” with Tove Lo, who performed with the band and separately earlier in the day. Following 1981’s “Girls on Film” as the main set’s closer, the band returned with a double Rio encore of “Save a Prayer” and the iconic title track.

Dolph Lundgren started his acting career with a James Bond movie (A View to a Kill) in 1985, quickly followed by Rocky IV, and then a string of action films. With a career spanning five decades, the man has had over 100 parts with only seven of those in television series, making him one busy film actor. Picking his five best is like choosing your favorite child. So, here are five of his best movies which are part of an ever-changing list of favorites.
The Punisher (1989)
An interesting take on The Punisher where Lundgren plays Frank Castle full of darkness, torment, and violence, but with a softer side that takes its time to show up. The final battle in Lady Tanaka’s home is a great watch each time the film comes on or is put on. We have had 4 Frank Castl’es on screen, and he brought one of the darkest,...

Roger Moore had some thoughts about the killing of James Bond, but No Time To Die proved it could work. The Roger Moore era of Bond is completely at odds with modern spy thrillers. The majority of Moore's 007 adventures were knowingly silly and camp and filled with outlandish gadgets, villains and double entendres. Many elements would be considered seriously non-pc to modern viewers also, but they may not have all aged gracefully, Moore himself was effortlessly charming and witty as the MI6 spy.
His run lasted from 1973's Live And Let Die and ended with Moore's least favorite Bond movie A View To A Kill in 1985. Audiences back then never had to worry about 007 making it to the end credits; in fact, they never had to worry about that with any other era of the franchise either. That's until Daniel Craig, however, who returned for his final outing...

Had Roger Moore played James Bond one last time in The Living Daylights, he would have ended his run on a graceful note. While Moore and Sean Connery are tied for the number of times they played Bond at seven, the latter's final appearance was in the "unofficial," non-Eon outing Never Say Never Again. Moore was the third actor to play 007 and was actually a couple of years older than Connery when he inherited the part.
Moore's run brought the humor and goofiness of the James Bond movie franchise to the forefront. His 007 was more of a lover than a fighter and was never short of a dry quip or bad pun. In some respects, Moore's era has aged the worst, but there's an undeniable charm and sense of fun to the best of them, and The Spy Who Loved Me remains one of the franchise's finest. After...

John Travolta (Grease) and Katherine Heigl (Firefly Lane) have boarded the rom-com That’s Amore!, written and to be directed by two-time Academy Award winner Nick Vallelonga (Green Book), with Christopher Walken (Severance) also in talks to star.
The film heading into production in August follows Nick Venere (Travolta), who is a modern-day ‘Marty’ – he’s never been married and his best dating years are well behind him. He’s never heard the words ‘I love you” and figures he never will. Patty Amore (Heigl) has her share of problems, as well. Shy and introverted, she’s filled with various tics and nervous habits. A secret from her past, combined with her over-protective father, have caused her to withdraw from the dating game. But when Nick and Patty meet, literally bumping into one another, they share an immediate connection. When these two emotionally damaged people attempt to date one another,...

James Bond is one of the most beloved cinematic heroes of all-time; its impressive that after six decades, excitement about the 007 series is just as high today as it was during the premiere of Dr. No. While Bond fans each have their favorite installments in the series, they’re also divided in terms of which actor they feel embodies the character from Ian Fleming’s novels the best. Sean Connery’s iconic performance fleshed out Bond’s charisma, intelligence, and loyalty to MI6, but the goofier interpretation that Roger Moore delivered has an equal amount of support from the fan community. In the last two decades, Daniel Craig’s performance has become iconic in its own right; Craig’s films are certainly the darkest in the entire franchise so far.

While the James Bond movies often featured goofy title drops, Roger Moore’s last film as 007 saw the series hit a new low when it came to this corny tradition. It is often difficult for the James Bond movies to work in a reference to each franchise outing’s title during the movie itself. While some of these titles, like 2012’s Skyfall or 1964’s Goldfinger, refer to a place of a person, many of the James Bond franchise’s titles are phrases that can be awkward to work into dialogue without them feeling like forced fourth-wall breaks.
It might be easy to put the phrase “you only live twice” in a character’s mouth, but “on her majesty’s Secret Service” is a little more of a mouthful. While James Bond’s confidante Felix Leiter and his MI6 co-workers Miss Moneypenny, Q, and M often provide the requisite title drops,...

Timothy Dalton's run as James Bond proved to be short-lived, but there were some unmade 007 adventures he almost starred in. It's been argued - and the actor himself would have agreed - that Roger Moore stayed on in the role of Bond for too long. He retired from the part following 1985's A View To A Kill, having played the spy for seven movies. Pierce Brosnan was famously hired to replace him for The Living Daylights, but after his waning TV series Remington Steele was unexpectedly renewed, he was forced to drop out.
Instead, the part went to Dalton, who had previously been approached for both On Her Majesty's Secret Service and Live And Let Die. Dalton had felt the Moore era had gotten too silly and wanted to return to the grit found in Ian Fleming's book. Dalton pioneered a darker version of 007 nearly two...

A specialized vacation getaway package lets travelers journey like James Bond, but it is quite expensive. Based on Ian Fleming's popular novels, the spy film series began in 1962 with Sean Connery as 007 in Dr. No. Spanning 60 years, the action-adventure franchise spawned 25 films that saw six different actors take Bond to various locales around the planet to save the world from a pantheon of eclectic villains.
A new expensive James Bond-themed vacation package lets people travel the world like 007. Organized by luxury travel company Black Tomato (via The New York Times), the getaway allows tourists to visit different locations featured in the film franchise. However, a five-day trip can run upwards of $18,500 per person, while the full 12-day tour will set an individual back $73,000.

With only six such scenes in the James Bond franchise, it’s interesting to note exactly how the beloved Bond ski chases differ from one another. A James Bond ski chase, though seldom encountered, is a treat for audiences since they always feature high speeds, skill, and trepidation for 007. Some are better than others, however, with certain elements taking some entries over others in terms of quality.
As mentioned, a Bond ski chase is rarely found, with the latest one taking place in The World is Not Enough. This means audiences haven’t yet seen a Bond ski chase in the 21st Century (with the possible exception of Spectre's snow-covered plane chase – which doesn't actually involve any skiing), which is extraordinary considering how enjoyable and quintessential they are within the 007 franchise. Here are all the skiing sequences in the James Bond series ranked.

Game of Thrones actor Charles Dance reveals why he once decided against auditioning for the iconic role of James Bond. Well known for playing stern, authoritarian characters, Dance is perhaps best remembered for his role as Lord Tywin, the scheming and intimidating patriarch of House Lannister in HBO’s Game of Thrones. He is also currently appearing in Paramount+’s latest spy thriller series Rabbit Hole opposite Kiefer Sutherland.
Most recently, Dance spoke with The Guardian about rumors that he once turned down the role of James Bond following Roger Moore’s last outing as 007 in 1985’s A View To A Kill. While has Dance has previously admitted that he was offered a screen test for the role, he clarified that he was talked out of auditioning by his agent. Check out his comments below:

Christopher Walken is one of a kind. No one else in Hollywood is quite like him, and for sure, no one else sounds like him. He’s a character actor who, in his later years, became so famous that, in some ways, he became a parody of himself even if he’s undoubtedly laughed his way to the bank. Indeed, despite being almost eighty, Walken is as busy as ever and shows no signs of slowing down.
Here’s the thing, though – when people do Walken impersonations or delight in his eccentricities, they tend to lose sight of the fact that in many of his roles, Walken is a pretty brilliant and versatile actor. If you know him most for his appearances on Saturday Night Live or in comedies, you owe it to yourself to learn more about the scope of his career, and that’s where this episode of...

The franchise should return to its roots for Bond 26, but there's a big reason it probably won't. The Bond franchise became a trendsetter when it debuted in the 1960s, and pretty much any spy movie or adventure that followed in its wake tried to capture its unique formula. Of course, the series would have to adapt itself to changing audience tastes in later years and would attempt to latch on to other popular trends. The influence of the Bourne series on 2006 reboot Casino Royale is clear as day, and the franchise even tried to copy Star Wars with 1979's Moonraker.
Every time the franchise swaps actors, it also has to undergo a tonal change. The campy, tongue-in-cheek feel of the Roger Moore Bond era gave way to the grounded, somewhat brooding Timothy Dalton run. 007 has found himself in some embarrassing outings that misunderstood his appeal (such as 2002's Die Another Day...

There are three James Bond films in particular that changed the franchise fundamentally and saved the series from dying. If it wasn’t for these three entries, 007 could have ended abruptly. Pulling audiences back into the cinemas and sparking interest once more in the franchise, this triplet of films is arguably the most important in the entire series.
The 007 franchise has always had its ups and downs, both commercially and critically. But some bumps in the road were just too big to ignore. As a result, a resurgence in quality and a reinvention of various elements were needed to revive the series.

Amidst the exciting car chases, whizzing bullets, and clinking martinis, James Bond movies have featured more than a few cameos, but the most obvious ones have been surprisingly absent. Since Sean Connery first played 007 in 1962, actors, composers, directors, and producers have popped up throughout the decades, adding an element of fun and continuity to the dynamic action, dramatic tension, and romance involving England's most famous secret agent.
From the iconic James Bond gun barrel intro that opens Dr. No (1962), in which Bob Simmons (not Connery) appears to walk, turn, and shoot the camera, to Sammy Davis Jr. in Diamonds are Forever (1971) and Dolph Lundgren in A View To A Kill (1985), there have always been famous people in Bond films, enriching their cinematic lore and providing more than a few Easter eggs. Since 1962, seven actors have played the role of James Bond, but who actually portrayed the superspy the longest? All in all, there have been 27 James Bond films with Eon productions making up the bulk with 25 and two non-canon movies that weren't made by the aforementioned studio. A variety of actors have played the part from David Niven, and Pierce Brosnan, to Daniel Craig and Sean Connery, and each brought something new to the role. The question of who is the very best Bond may never be settled, but who actually played the part the most is a title that goes to one man alone.
Sean Connery is perhaps best known for his lengthy tenure as James Bond, and films like Goldfinger (1964) and From Russia With Love (1963) are certified spy film classics. Though On Her Majesty's Secret Service is a fan favorite, actors like George Lazenby and David Niven who only...

The 20th James Bond movie, Die Another Day, is a celebration of 007's cinematic history, littered with references to the franchise throughout. Several iconic moments from the movies were recreated, with many sets adorned with props from the James Bond movie cannon. One scene in Die Another Day in particular, however, proved to be a treasure trove of James Bond Easter eggs and references.
In the 2002 movie Die Another Day, Pierce Brosnan's James Bond visits Q Branch in a disused station of the London Underground. Bond and Q (John Cleese) enter the gadget maker's warehouse, which is brimming with Easter eggs and references. Interestingly, the entire location is a reference to the classic 007 adventure You Only Live Twice, in which Tiger Tanaka refers to M having a secret subway station. The remaining references draw from Bond's history, from the iconic to the ridiculous.

Six actors, excluding the non-canon takes in Casino Royale (1967), have put on James Bond’s tux and holstered his Walther Ppk. That number will only grow as future film adventures unfold. In fact, the search is already on for the next 007 following Daniel Craig’s departure.
However, as many performers have taken on Bond himself, there are even more who have filled the role of the dastardly villain trying to bring him down. From Christopher Walken’s scenery chewing Max Zorin in A View to a Kill to Mads Mikkelsen’s starkly terrifying Le Chiffre in Casino Royale (2006), there’s no denying the 007 franchise has some of the best baddies in cinema history. In the six decades since, there have been 25 Bond films with six different actors portraying the suave spy, as well as 25 accompanying theme songs ripe for debate over which is best.
Monty Norman‘s “James Bond Theme” was so perfect that it has been used in some form in every Bond film since, but each installment also has its own theme, featuring some of the most prolific composers, songwriters and performers of their time. In the 1960s, John Barry took over as composer, eventually working on 11 of the films, and collaborating with a variety of lyricists and artists, ranging from “Oliver!
