Was originally simply titled "Mountaintop Motel" when the film was made in 1983. New World Pictures added the "Massacre" to the title, and commissioned a new, and gorier, ending when they picked the film up for distribution in 1986.
The motel in the film was actually an abandoned fishing camp right off of Cross Lake (Shreveport, Louisiana).
The film was released to theaters three times under different titles. Before being picked up by New World and given a wide release as 'Mountaintop Motel Massacre' on March 14, 1986, it had limited releases as 'Mountaintop Motel' on July 15, 1983 and 'Horrors at Mountaintop Motel' on Dec. 14, 1984.
Shot in March, 1983.
